It does seem that way.

There was a time when I had some hopes for the Sedition Wars ruleset eventually scaling up to be a good tabletop skirmish and/or potentially ever larger alternative.

Not so much now...

This plus 1. I really like the Strain models so I will be getting some more from the expansion to use in other game systems. My faith in SMV in writing a ruleset for this has dropped to 0.

What will you be using the Strain as?

Just jumping in:

I plan on using the minis for the "In the Emperor's Name" skirmish ruleset. The Vanguard will make for some really cool Naval troopers or Adeptus Arbites (including the heroes- every landing party/defense patrol has to have a medic, a "sniper" character, the "big guy" etc.)

I think the strain might make for an awesome Dark Mechanicus warband, by just adding a suitable tech-priest looking figure to lead it. I can explain away the techno-parts of the zombies by saying they are test subjects/victims of the Obliterator virus. The larger models like the Grendler are infected servitors.

I haven't actually played my copy of SW more than a couple of times, so I'm not really all that familiar with the rules controversies. I was thinking about busting it out again next week. Is there a thread somewhere I should go look at that would catch me up?

AegisGrimm, do you have any of the minis yet. They are really good looking in my opinion but very small compared to GW figures. They look good next to FW or Infinity minis though.

Fix, I would recommend that you check out the Studio McVey website and go to the forums. They have a good deal of discussion about the rules going on there.

Hm, Nurgle LatD Zombies. That might work, actually.

I'll be using them in Warpath and Deadzone as the Plague.

I have the 1st shipment from the Kickstarter Biohazard level (so the main game plus doubles of the non-hero figures), and am waiting on the 2nd one. They are definitely not as chubby as GW miniatures. Closer to a realistic 25-28mm scale than the heroic scales most of the standard companies use.

I painted up about 30 of them for use with Infinity, and a special narrative campaign event I ran.

Think they fit that kind of sci-fi aesthetic perfectly (although not sure how well they will go with 40k - maybe the Mantic zombie/corporation miniature combo might be better?)

Nice little minis though, a couple of pics for anyone interested:

Spoiler:

SAS trooper mobbed by 'strain', comes back as one

During city evacuation, fat guy and man in goat suit (civilians) escape from approaching horde...

Couple more civilians escape..

My Strain models are being used as Nurgle Cultists and Random Plague Zombies for 40k Skirmish games for the most part. The vanguard (with the wave 2 models when they finally get here) are making up an IG/Imperial Navy boarding party.

Excellent use of figures.

Side note: that table made me drool. Epic!

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

I started to use them as plague zombies in skirmish settings, but I wanted to rationalize the figures with ranged weapons (The quasimodo and the Brimstone), as well as the Cthonian and the Grendlr. I figured that if I say they are Dark Mechanicus, they will somewhat follow the new 40K Chaos design of daemon engines. Hell, if anything, they look even more sadistic and Grimdark than the daemon engines, really. Especially as something let loose on a populace.

Kind of my take on a Chaos version of Genestealer Cults, without just being masses of robed cultists, though those would obviously still make a good "human" portion of the cult. Hmmm...I might have a reason to get a small amount of the Dark Vengeance cultists.........

Pacific - all I can say is: Wow! That table looks amazing, and the game sounds like it would have been awesome fun as well. You're motivating me to get into the garage (aka box hell) to clean out some more of the random junk that it's filled with so I can get closer to having a proper table set up...

Nice ideas there as well, AegisGrimm. Makes sense, and they do fit in with things like the new Chaos Dread and CSM..

To be fair the one thing that was unmistakably OK in the first wave was sculpt and cast quality. Wouldn't be worried about that, personally

...oh, And miniaturemarket has SW on offer @$35 again, for a few more hours

The Aphid Suit in particular has me nervous.

It has serious Warpies potential.

Do you have something, anything, around the house which could boil water? If so, don't worry.

Bent 'thick' bits (the big strain thing springs to mind!) can be annoying to bend back but the thinner it gets, the easier it is to bend back into shape in my experience.

those bars forming his rollcage would be quite easy to bend into place: heat the whole thing in boiling water, take it out of the water and press onto the model, then hold for 30 seconds. between PP, Mantic and CMoN I've seen some restic by now, never had issues with bits like that yet - however badly bent they turn up

Just an FYI guys, Sedition Wars: Alabaster is the Deal of the Day on MiniatureMarket. It's $35 for the next few hours. I'm sure a couple of you will/have already jump(ed) on it.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I must have got really lucky when I sold one of my biohazards for £130, ok it was just after I received it and no one was really aware of the issues (which I hardly had any).
