So, everyone knows the age old "GW IS REALLY EXPENSIVE WAHH" thread. We've had tons of them, ever since I started coming to this forum back in like '07/'08, and generally I'd be the first to agree, and admit that some of GW's pricing *ahem* decisions have been a little questionable as of late.

But I've just seen the new Daemon releases in White Dwarf, which turned up yesterday, and the prices don't look that bad. Take the Plague Drones. They look like pretty big guys. It's a large kit, you're going to end up with a ton of extras, and if the rumours are true, you can make a herald on one of these bad boys from the box. £36 for three of them is only like £12 each, not including all the other bits you can use/sell on/do whatever with.

Also, looking at the new chariot-y things too, £25 for a multi-option plastic kit isn't bad going. Both of them look fairly big, and although I'm not keen on the Khorne one, I see the appeal to other people, and the Tzeentch one is really cool too. Okay, so the characters are £15. That is expensive for one miniature. But, to me it seems they're finally realising how expensive their kits are, and are moving toward doing something about it.

Suppose we'll just have to wait and see what happens in wave two, I guess. What does everyone else think? *crosses fingers that this doesn't turn into another haters vs white knights thread*

£15 for a generic special character.

I don't need to say more.

Doubt it

Their prices are on par with their other kits (plague drones are the same price as their dragon ogres). And keep it mind they havent released anything big in this release. Imagine how much Greater Daemons will be (especially seeing that they can easily make them much bigger)

$25.00 for a 28mm plastic model is very expensive in my book unless they come with a box full of options

The thing is, I bet the chariot's are in squadrons. 25 quid for a chariot seems great, until it turns out it's £75, for a unit of them, and running single ones is impossible/useless.

But I hope I am wrong

No. While comparatively reasonable compared to recent releases, it's partly because this wave doesn't feature any large centrepiece models, which are the heart of the craziness.

What has worked is that people such as yourself now consider plastic models at 12 pounds each is reasonable, so their conditioning is having an impact. In relation to other models, I can understand your thinking, but in reality they're still overpriced by a good 25% IMO.

Depends on what you think the error of GW's ways are that they are supposedly seeing really.....

I think the new Daemons look awful, the same way that the horrible new Chaos Marines Zoid things were - they leave me entirely cold.

The prices are just as high as they have ever been. Someone pointed out in another thread how the US prices on certain items had risen to match the Aus prices (can't remember what the item in question was - I think it was a LOTR set) - the point being that the whole AUs price rise has been one massive experiment to see just how far it can be pushed. A lot further seems to be the result. |Expect the other shoe to drop in Europe soon I think.

Character models got 25% more expensive. Plastic (!) chariots are 2€ more expensive than Finecast (!!!) chariots.

...and seriously, GW can stick their "extra bits" where the sun doesn't shine. I want actual minis. If I wanted extra stuff, I'd buy bitz online.

So how much should we be paying for the large centerpiece models?

Privateer seems to think we should be paying around $125.

Beyond GW and PP is anyone else even doing them?

12 pounds each is quite a lot. Everyone was griping about the cost of metal ogre sized models such as ushabti, and treekin. Plastic minis were supposed to be cheaper. They are certainly much less expensive to produce. Now we see that the plastic versions of similarly sized models are almost as expensive as the metal ones. It is also worth noting that the drones are more expensive than the Tomb Kings Necropolis Knights, which are on larger bases than the drones.

The Chariots are the same price as the new Chaos Chariot. They are expensive. The regular Tomb King Chariots are 3 for 35 usd. GW is just super sizing stuff and charging lots of money for it.

My Reaper centerpiece model (Cthullu) cost me ten bucks..

Just sayin'

Granted it was on a Kickstarter, but even so, if they can make highly detailed awesome models that are highly unlikely to cost 125.00 when retailed out, so can GW and PP.

They won't though

I think it says something about GW when someone sees that the latest release didn't raise the pricing standard established by the previous release, which occurred four weeks ago, and says "*gasp* maybe they've learned their lesson finally!"

Wait until the June price adjustment, IMO.

Just noticed that the Plague Drones are slightly more expensive than Bloodcrushers, which is an almost directly comparable kit, so even less reasonable than it would initially appear.

You have this model already?

Personally, I'm not a fan of the material they're using for Bones, but that's just me. I don't think it's as high quality as their previous metals. So I'm still waiting to see some of these "made for Bones" models becAuse, while they're an extraordinary value, I wouldn't put them in the same quality category as a privateer or GW miniature.

Sooon my precious, sooon....

I have several of the bones minis. The level of detail is surprisingly good, especially given the cost being drastically lower.

Some of them have better detail than some GW minis i've seen, and many of them look as good or better too, IMO. YMMV of course.

Don't get me wrong, I think they're a great value, but the details aren't that sharp. I have the gnoll, the ogre, and the werewolf.

It depends what you call a large, centrepiece model.

If you want a 15mm Inca army, the commander-in-chief, Sapa Inca, in his litter with rainbow banner roof carried by eight men will set you back...

£1.25.

The cost of a single snap-fit Tyranid Termagant.

Of course you may not want a 15mm Inca army.

False justification. Tons of bits is not more models. And thats the problem. We've seen them decrease the numbers in boxes across the board and add more bits to add "value". But the reality is it doesnt add any value. Just a higher price tag.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

BUt in PP's favor the 100-125 dollar centerpiece models are larger most fo the time than a same priced GW unit and actual ship with the unit rules. Still the $125 colossus ain't cheap.

I don't think it's indicative of anything really. Personally I think it's still over-priced, as I can buy an Infinity miniature for half the price that knocks them into a cocked-hat in terms of detail (this is regardless of what you think of the style or aesthetic value). That's from a company that has nothing like the manufacturing muscle of GW, and the miniature is made of metal, so must have a much higher production cost on both counts - so in that comparison then yes, these miniatures are still over-priced.

As for it being a 'haters vs. white knights' thread, really it just comes down to whether people find the price acceptable or not - that will be different for each of us, although obviously as the price rises then more and more people will fall into the latter camp.

No they haven't. It's just not as mind-boggingly overpriced as some other releases (the heralds are still priced far too much, especially considering how low-quality finecast is) and we've become desensitized.
