Which game do you find yourself playing the most? Why?

Also, for fun,(if you want) what is your favorite fluff from the game?

"The horses look mighty thin today! And the men look absolutely starved! Perhaps we should hold a feast to brighten spirits, and fill bellies"- a slightly disillusioned tomb king to his herald.

Other - Infinity the game is what I play the most. It's fun, fast paced with really nice rule mechanics and it's skirmish which to me is a plus. It also doesn't take all that long to play which I like.
As for my favorite fluff for the game is hard to say... I might suggest that it's the general atmosphere of that game that appeals to me the most - sort of sci-fi superpowers in a cold war sort of thing - but that might be very unspecific. Oh well.

We play the X-Wing minis game, WH40K, Space Hulk, and I'm trying my best to introduce Warmachine.

40k

Definitely the most popular miniature game at my store.

Some of us used to play fantasy more often, but 8th really struck a sour note with people because of the massive increase in unit sizes and the power of magic.

Out of that list, probably Fantasy, though the recent rule changes are affecting that. I like games that are primarily based on manoeuvring your troops in to a better position to increase your odds rather than based on what troops you selected or who you choose to fire/charge at. Fantasy I always found as a game where you could choose a wide variety of lists that were reasonably insensitive to your opponent's army. 40k on the other hand, the strength of your list is massively dependent on your opponent's and I always found it too luck based and "who will I shoot" based rather than carefully manoeuvring your army. I've always said I play Fantasy for the rules and 40k for the armies.

I'm not really a fan of skirmish games, so most of the others are out. I would like to try LOTR WOTR, but I haven't had a chance.

That said, with the most recent edition of the Fantasy rules I've started losing interest, so I dunno, my "favourite" varies from year to year.

Gamewise from that list, 40k. However, I like WHFB's fluff a bit more than I like 40k's.

I love fantasy, it is more in depth that 40k in my opinion and MUCH more balanced. When my opponent in a tourney finishes deploying I might think 'ok, 2 hydras, I'll have to deal with them' but I have yet to go 'oh, he brought that internet list...'

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

At the moment, Infinity. It's a new experience and I'm having a blast with the models. Having a points based game where it's not really possible to make the wrong list is refreshing.

Other- Infinity.

I started to grow tired of 40k back in 2011. After 24 years, it was STILL the same game, had shown little in the way of "evolution" and it had became boring.

Infinity might use the same IgoUgo but at least there's a constant reaction aspect of it, so I'm not just removing models in my opponent's turn of shooting.

My other game is WHFB - a game that I only restarted last year after a 17 year hiatus.

I wouldn't go that far. Rogue Trader > 2nd edition was a huge evolution. 2nd edition > 3rd edition was a huge evolution. But yeah, it's been the same game since then, so 15 years.

Other: Dropzone Commander. A fast paced you go I go game focused on fast insertion, redeployment, and objective grabbing.

I think my favorite piece of fluff from the setting is The Abandonment that divided humanity and weakened what little defense we had to halt the surprise attack launched quickly thereafter by the Scourge.

Edit - Because I think it is really neat and cool.. I like the fact that United Colony of Mankind tanks utilize articulated armatures and low profiles to get behind cover and fire over it with near impunity with their railguns.

I really want to try Dropzone Commander (although I really wanted to like the Scourge, but the aesthetic doesn't appeal to me at all) - and a friend was eyeing the starters last time we were at the FLGS. Maybe after we've given Infinity a good bashing, I'll feel like some 15mm action.

OK, a bit of an exaggeration, but the last 15 years have been more or less the same game. So much so that 6th ed may as well be 3.3 ed.
Minor tweaks and changes - just enough to "justify" the creation of a new rulebook (but the prices are something that can't be justified to me).

I love 40k. I think that the rules are great; the updates come at reasonable enough intervals, and change things in ways that strive towards perfecting the game. I also think that the background of the game is rich and compelling, I think it's almost unique in its approach to contradictory 'non-canon canon.' The sheer scope of the game world is mind boggling, and it allows the game creators to tell almost any story they want to and still have it fit somewhere.

I like that it's a game that grows. The first models I ever bought I can still play with. I can't say the same of the first D&D products I bought, or the first CCG products I purchased. Just a personal opinion of course, but there it is.

I honestly find their "non-canon canon" as lazy. To me it just seems they don't want to put the time and effort into creating a cohesive universe and would rather please one piece of the fan base at a time.

Other... Battlegroup Kursk

Awesome WWII game, used to play FOW but have found this much better. Still use 15mm models.

Why do i love it, partly cost, a whole decent sized soviet force using FOW and Plastic Soldier company models cost me about £100

Secondly more care has been taken to make armies more historical and balanced, less tank spam then i encountered in FOW and good rules for tanks isolated from infantry support.

But mainly its the morale chit system meaning it feels like a real battle, each side breaking at a certain point. But with the random values on chits you can never be sure how close the enemy is to breaking, can make it very tense.

The pinning and orders system is good to, i have an average of 27 units in my army and would average 9 orders to give a turn, meaning i cannot move and fire everything so have to prioritize and maybe concentrate on a single attack or push, and my opponent is in the same boat.

And lastly the battles themselves, armies trickle on which means no lining up to forces giving the person who gets the first go the massive advantage of just blowing the crap out of the enemy line. Also makes more sense on a 6x4 board, the random nature of this can lead to a little frustration to.

Infinity. Like Hindenburg, I love the general idea and atmosphere of the fluff more than any specific point.

.. I was thinking the other day, you could make a montage of the Berlin Wall falling, the release of Nelson Mandela and end of Apartheid, the death of Diana, the creation of the Euro, September 11th, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Indian ocean earthquake, the inauguration of a black man as president of the United States.

And through all of that, 10 marines getting out of a fething rhino

The good thing is I suppose (depending on how you look at it!) is that I know I'll be able to walk away from wargaming, have children who will in turn have children, sit through the first Mars landings, see water-powered cars become universal, as well as genetically-engineered Pikachu become a must-have Xmas present, and witness the death of the Queen by a catapult accident (that absolutely no-one saw coming), and I'm confident that I'd be able to take my 40k army to a game and pick up the rule changes in 30 seconds of conversation

Its really alarming that so many of you prefer WH40k...

On a side note Warmachine and hordes is the same game.. not diffrent.. It should say Warmachine/hordes.. Its not the same as 40k and WHFB that have totaly diffrent system. You play Hordes armies Vs Warmachine armies all the time..

And I prefer Warmachine/Hordres, because the balance is good, the rules are updated...

WM/H. It has the tightest, most well written ruleset I know, great background and brought me back into the miniatures gaming fold. Honorable mention to Infinity for a novel approach to 28mm skirmish, great models and a ruleset with enormous potential.

WM. This is mainly because it is the only main game at my FLGS that i can conceivably carry with ease to the club without having to buy more stuff as i currently lack funds. I do mean to start Malifaux (Lilith) and DZ (PHR) and FOW (German) but these all require funds. And i have a veretibale gak load of stuff that needs finishing at home.

I should note that i am trying to get back into WHFB/40K
