It's not a good deal since most people would probably only buy one or two, but are now forced to buy 3...
That's quite a bit more profit for gw, espcially since crisis suits are probably arround 60-80% pure profit right now.

It is also a $3.33 discount ($10 off total on 3 models that used to be available individually) on a 12 year old model that had design flaws the day it came out. It is a nice discount over where they were a week ago but for a new release it is still disappointing.

The reason isn't that hard to discover.
The Skyray kit pretty much invalidated the Hammerhead kit. It included all the same frames, at the same price point.
Anyone who expected them to retain the same price on the Skyray kit was kidding themselves.

The fact that the same exact kit was already available for $49.50 is precisely why it is garbage that it went up to $60. GW priced the Sky Ray $49.50 knowing full well its contents. This isn't them making a proper adjustment, it is simply a price hike. Unless they add in some fancy new drone or weapon sprues it is an unwarranted price increase using the new release as an excuse.

As opposed to any other time the exact same (or lesser) contents are repriced whenever a new release comes out?

Considering that it's a 12 year old model which was overpriced at $20 when it first came out...
It's more of a "refrain from punishment" than a "give a reward".
Probably they want to get the last gasp out of the sprue before retiring it in favor of new suits.
Speaking of...
In the Riptide interview Matt Holland talks about designing the Enforcer suit. But the new Battlesuit Commander is Edgar Ramos and the Cadre Fireblade is Dave Thomas(Founder of Wendy's). Does that mean he just did the art or is there a new suit coming later?

Veskrashen wrote:Couple more tidbits scavenged from Warseer and ATT:
- Stealth teams keep Shrouded and Stealth, and can take a Homing Beacon.
- Crisis are apparently 3 suits + optional Shas'vre, for a total of 4 per unit.
If these are true, might give us a bit more flexibility in the Elites section - bigger Crisis units means we can still take 8 Crisis and fit in a Stealth team for Beacon and other support.
The way Veskrashen's post is worded, it sounds as though Crisis Teams will be no smaller than 3. In which case GW is selling us the squad minimum in that box set. In which case there's no good reason to buy just 1 or 2, especially at a markup.

We already have the actually subtle plan by the Emperor... its pretty rare for GW to 180 on an allusion in their fluff... Though some necrontyr/tau connection would be awesome.

Personally, I'd love to see the fan theory about the tau being the descendants of the necrontyr as part of some huge plan moved more into canon.
I'd prefer it if the tau were either made by the last remaining Old Ones or were affected by something the Adeptus Mechanicus "accidentally" left on the Tau home world when they first discovered them.
I'd even prefer the Tau being the creation of the Eldar over the 'Crons. Seriously, the 'crons being the ancestors of the Tau "would" be the sledgehammer writing of the usual fluff.
Now a mysterious fated purpose from the old ones or some secret design of the Ad Mech could easily be written in an elegant nebulous grim/dark manner.

I agree, that is why, while all of you were busy being upset by the price hike that we all knew was coming, I bought a Sky Ray NIB tonight for $42 off of Ebay.
Seriously though, I picked up the last cheap one currently listed while bits shopping for all of the upcoming converting that we are going to have to do (I'm betting that Missile pods will no longer be the weapon load-out of choice for the XV8's)

IDK, if you are starting out you probably want 6 suits so a pack of three is good value. Veteran players probably already have all the suits they need, and might pick up the new Commander model or Broadside, in which case they can convert their current commander and Broadsides into standard suits.

It doesn't look like multi-trackers are built in. Seeing as all the suits except the commander (and the shield guy) have them on their shoulders.

Well it is an "upgraded suit" so I would guess that it is possible that it is built in but we can not see it or something like that. Take for instance that the new Suit has a pauldron on the left shoulder. Why is that there? Could it be housing new electronics?
Also take into account the size of the jump pack as well as the section right infront of the suits "head" These are all possible outcomes.

I wasn't referring to the XV8-05 but the other suits around him. The battle report in the OP suggested that BSF and multi-trackers are built into all XV8s now.

Pfff, aye right, GW writing the AdMech as anything other than stooges? You can't go more than five paces in 40K without running into a Techpriest who's secretly a Necron, or who was duped by THE EMPRAH, or by Horus, or a *hint hint nudge nudge* implication that the whole organisation is essentially a lie based on their being brainwashed by a C'tan in their dreams or some crap. Right now the AdMech are up there with the Iron Hands, Sisters of Battle, and Abaddon as GW's go-to fluff punching bags.
