PRE-ORDER: JAPANESE SPECIAL NAVAL LANDING FORCE
This week you place your pre-order for a new Bolt Action Imperial Japanese boxed set – the Special Naval Landing Force!
Due to the deep distrust the Japanese Army and Navy had for each other, joint operations were all but out of the question and the Navy created the Special Naval Landing Forces as a result. First seeing action in 1932 during the ‘Shanghai Incident’ of the Sino-Japanese War, the SNLF were highly trained, high quality troops with excellent morale. Each SNLF formation was named after the base in which it as formed.
Naval troops wore uniforms of a similar cut to those of the Army, but in olive drab rather than the Army’s khaki and with black rather than brown boots. This makes a unit of SNLF stand out nicely from the Army units in your force, adding greater variety as well as no mean performance.
The SNLF spearheaded the landings in the Philippines and the Dutch East Indies, as the Japanese forces cut a swathe across the Pacific with great success. When faced with determined resistance, such as at the invasion of Timor and the Battle of Milne Bay in 1942, they often experienced heavy casualties due to their unwillingness to surrender. When completely out of ammunition, they would often resort to hand-to-hand fighting with their swords.
A 6th US Marine Division intelligence report prior to the landing at Tarawa in August 1943 stated “Naval units of this type are usually more highly trained, and have a greater tenacity and fighting spirit than the average Japanese Army unit.”
This plastic and metal set contains parts to make 32 SNLF. It includes plastic Japanese Infantry sprues plus metal parts with new heads for every model (including an officers tropical hat and a sailor’s cap). The set also includes equipment packs including their distinctive gas-masks. There are also two new metal bodies as well as arms firing a pistol and wielding a ceremonial sword. The set is rounded off nicely with the full-colour sheets of flags and devotional banners – great to hang from weapons as they take Emperor’s word to the enemy…

NEW: BRUMMBÄR HEAVY ASSAULT GUN
Known officially as the Sd.Kfz 166 or Sturmpanzer 43, this heavy assault gun is better known by the nickname Brummbär (German for Grizzly Bear), supposedly given to it by Allied Intelligence.
Based on a modified Panzer IV chassis the Brummbär was armed with a 150mm StuH 43/1 L/12 gun. Deveeloped for close range fire support, especially in regards to supporting units street-fighting. It was very effective against dug-in infantry positions, buildings and almost any kind of stronghold. They were also used as support vehicles for panzergrenadier and infantry units.
The Brummbär made its combat debut at the Battle of Kursk and went on to see action at Anzio, Normandy, Holland the Netherlands, Hungary and the defence of the Reich itself. Brummbärs also helped to put down the Warsaw Uprising.
“Führer is convinced that immediately after the delivery of Sturmpanzers
to the units there will be great need for this type of vehicles.”

PREVIEW: DAD’S ARMY – CORPORAL JONES
“DON’T PANIC!”
We’ve been inundated with requests to show off the miniatures from the Dad’s Army boxed for which we’ve been granted the official licence. So, we ran a poll on the Warlord Games Facebook page which resulted in a clear winner – the model you most wanted to see was local butcher and veteran of the Sudanese Campaign, Lance-Corporal Jack Jones.
As with all the Local Defence Volunteers in our boxed set he is depicted in Home Guard uniform and in civilian attire. In hios butcher’s garb he is wielding his asagai spear – a trophy from fighting the ‘Fuzzie-Wuzzies’ in Sudan.
“THEY DON’T LIKE IT UP ‘EM!”
We’ll be showing off more characters every day from now until the pre-order launch, so make sure you check in to see them!

The whole cast will be done in uniform and in civilian occupation clothing, along with the vicar and his toadying crony, as a boxed set.
edit.
Ten or so characters are planned, so 18 minis give or take.

That may be the only must have mini of 2014.
I always wanted to do a multi-player skirmish game with beer and pretzels (nobody dies) rules with Dad's Army against a daring band of German paras. I also need WInston Churchill...or his body double.

If I remember correctly Black Scorpion minis has a 28mm Churchill and Crooked Dice will later this year (Around April) release a set of rules pitting the Home Guard against nazi vampires, but the rules can easily be adapted to say, the Eagle Has Landed.

If the rest of the Dad's Army figures are as good as Jones I can't wait to get my hands on them. I do hope Warlord keep making models of this type alongside the more serious stuff. I would love an Allo Allo set especially if it included Gruber and his "little tankie," even better would be a miniature version of the fallen madonna with the big boobies to use as an objective in games.

Who knows? It also depends on the license holder of course. Warlord went through the trouble of actually getting a hold of the actual license to produce these minis, unlike those other companies who produce their own ranges of not-Dad's Army.

OMG.. these are, without a doubt, the coolest minis I have seen for ages.
Nick Ellingworth, you should take those out of the spoiler tags, would be a shame for anyone to miss them!
It's not just the likenesses, it's the poses as well; Godfrey timidly holding his bag, Joe Walker with the cigarette, Hodges indignant pose and look on his face. Just needs a model for Jones' butchers van now!

Dad's Army boxed set now on pre-order: http://www.warlordgames.com/42527/pre-order-dads-army-home-guard-platoon-boxed-set/
We’re delighted to be able to show off our officially licenced Dad’s Army Home Guard platoon boxed set. Based on the long-running TV series, these superb miniatures are now available to pre-order!
During the dark days of 1940, Britain was under dire threat of Nazi invasion. A massive citizen army, the Local Defence Volunteers, was raised to defend their families and homes. Although armed with old or ad hoc weapons and equipment the Home Guard, as it became known, was a vital part of the defence of British shores. Based on these proud defenders of the realm, the classic TV series, Dad’s Army produced some of television’s most enduring catchphrases and characters as it followed the adventures of Walmington-on-Sea’s Home Guard platoon.
The boxed set contains 18 superbly detailed miniatures sculpted by Paul Hicks – representations of the cast of the classic TV series, Dad’s Army in civilian and Home Guard attire! Included are Captain Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson, Lance-Corporal Jones, Privates Pike, Walker, Frazer and Godfrey, plus Warden Hodges, the Verger and Reverend Farthing.
Also included are plastic bases and a leaflet chronicling Dad’s Army and how you can field them in games of Bolt Action on the tabletop…
Manager of Swallow Bank by day, leader of Walmington-on-Sea’s Home Guard force by night, Mainwaring is a pillar of the community and portrays the never-say-die spirit that saw Britain through it’s darkest days. That said, his pompous approach and over-inflated sense of self-importance gets him into bother more often than not…
A distinguished veteran of the First World War, Arthur Wilson is something of a ladies man – as his effect on Pike’s mum shows! A man of breeding, Wilson has a less than authoritarian approach to discipline “would you mind awfully falling in please?” followed by “thank you so much”.
Local Butcher and veteran of many previous conflicts (as he is want of reminding everyone), Jones’ many catchphrases run throughout the show…
“The first thing to remember: There’s no substitute for cold steel.
They do not like it up ‘em, they DON’T LIKE IT UP ‘EM”
Youngest of Walmington-on-Sea’s Home Guard platoon, teenager Frank Pike lives with his mum having moved to the town at the same time as ‘Uncle Arthur’ Wilson – something of a source of gossip!
Walker can get hold of anything – for a price! As a black market spiv (or ‘wholesale supplier’, as he prefers to be known…), regularly interrupts Mainwaring’s long-winded speeches. Walker is a popular if somewhat shifty member of the platoon.
“We’re doomed!”. Frazer’s catchphrase is amongst the most popular of the series as the dour Scotsman sees the bleak side of many a plan. The wild-eyed Frazer saw service during the First World War as an officer (and cook) in the Navy and as a result balks at the incompetance of the platoon’s officer and NCOs
Although well-liked by the others in the platoon, retired shop assistant Godfrey’s relaxed demeanour, weak bladder (“Do you think I might be excused?”) and tendency to fall asleep can lead some to see him as a bit of a liability. Godfrey’s true background shows something far from it, however…
The platoon’s nemesis – Mainwaring in particular, whom he refers to as “Napoleon” – Hodges is a greengrocer by day but also dons the black and white uniform of the area’s Chief Air Raid Warden. This level of responsibility has gone to his head and his arrogance boils over into outright antagonism of the Home Guard in the town, often resorting to blackmail to get his way…
One half of the double act played with the Vicar, the Verger fawns over Reverend Farthing, often referring to him wrongly as “Your Reverence”. Clearly antagonistic of the Home Guard he often refers to them as ‘vanadals’ due to damage caused to the Church Hall in which the platoon meet following their HQ being bombed.
The somewhat camp Reverend Farthing is caught in the middle of the feud between the pompous Mainwaring and the uncouth Hodges. That he also has to share the church all with them doesn’t help matter and whilst he tries to remain impartial he invariably gets caught up in their escapades…
“WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE KIDDING, MR HITLER?
IF YOU THINK WE’RE ON THE RUN…”

NEW: SOMUA S35 AND FRENCH TANK CREW - http://www.warlordgames.com/42779/new-somua-s35-and-tank-crew/
Out today is the Somua S35 medium cavalry tank, bringing more armoured reinforcements to French armies. We also have new French Tank Crew figures!
Widely regarded to be the best tank during the early stages of the war, the Somua S35 had between 40 and 47mm of armour yet still managed to maintain a good level of manoeuvrability. The S35 was armed with a potent 47mm main gun and coaxial machine gun.
The S35 performed admirably during the Battle for France and was only let down by frailties in the French tactical approach to the war. Certainly the Germans were keen to bring the S35 into German service once France had capitulated, the new vehicle being designated Panzerkampfwagen 35-S 739(f).
Italy, Bulgaria and Hungary also received the S35 from captured French stocks.
As you will have noticed from the pictures of the Somua S35 above we have a set of new French tank crew for you! The S35 is supplied with a random crew member but you can collect all of them in this new pack. Most of them have separate Figure Heads so you can mix and match to your own taste..

NEW: PANHARD 178 ARMOURED CAR - http://www.warlordgames.com/42773/new-panhard-178-armoured-car/
NEW: BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE BOXED SET - http://www.warlordgames.com/42786/new-british-expeditionary-force-boxed-set/
This new metal boxed set allows you to take the fight to Jerry as he storms into France and the Low Countries in 1940! These miniatures are also good for use on the Home Front during the anticipated invasion of Britain, Operation Sealion…
The British Expeditionary Corps was an army of nearly a third of a million troops which Great Britain sent to France to try to resist inevitable German aggression. Allied with Belgian and French forces, its ten infantry divisions were supported by artillery, tank brigades and air squadrons. Despite fighting well they were outmanoeuvred all too often, leading to tactical withdrawal and the heroic but tragic defeat at Dunkirk.
This new 20-figure boxed set contains a 10-man section (inc NCO and Bren Gunner), Boyes Anti-tank rifle team, Vickers medium machine gun team, 2″ light mortar team and is led by a officer and two attendant riflemen.
Just the job for bloodying the noses of Adolf’s upstart invaders!

Paul Sawyer posted in their forums that it will be about 2 quid for most of them. Basically Boxed units going from £18-£20 etc. Not sure how much the boxed games are going up.
I'm tempted to pick up the Hail Caesar starter set finally for £60 before it goes up as well, but I don't know when (or if!) I'll ever have the models required to play a "proper" game of it, since the battles seem to be HUGE multiplayer dealies...

Although the rules allow it, I don't think Hail Caesar has to be a massively scaled game. The key thing in the rules is unit frontage; the rule book recommends 160-200mm for a 'standard' size unit. However, I've gone on the recommendation of a lot of players (and actually Warlord themselves) to downsize slightly and make a standard unit 120-160mm wide, 3 or 4 ranks deep. In practice this means (if you are playing Roman era) at 20mm a miniature, 6 miniatures across, 18 or 24 miniatures in total for the unit. For Celts I have widened to 160mm, but spaced the miniatures out more on larger bases to represent their less-regimented nature.
But, the great thing about it is that the rules are so versatile you can get away with whatever takes your fancy.
Also, you can get the starter set and starter Roman army for £48 if you shop around!
