Nice. Those can go on the shopping list. I wonder if they will do ones suitable to go in their plastic Sherman too?

Eh, late war SS with much laxer recruitment standards. Heck, they were even letting in decidely non-german volunteers from your neck of the woods into it!

Actually, IIRC first non-German to receive an iron cross was a Dutchman, and that's not something to be proud of. Though I could be wrong, I hope I am, I don't want to give the rightwing scum anything to uphold as something good and whole.

Digressing, but the Germans have been recruiting for the SS in foreign countries since the early stages, as early as late 1940 IIRC, not just the late war scum.

Dutch SS for example were fighting on the Eastern Front as of late 1941.

But yeah, those guys in the movie were decidedly not the Fanatical FURY-SS, but a more laid back 70's SS.

IIRC they had a lot of foreign volunteer SS-divisions. Apparently there were up to 500k of foreign SS-troops, the first division (Wiking) being formed in late 1940, so they were active quite early on.

So the Fallschirmjager plastics are now up for preorder as part of an army deal (£75) that looks ever so tempting

So is that flamethrower actually on the fallschirmjäger sprue? I know it's not on the German weapons sprue and it's not listed as a separate metal component/unit.

It's part of the sniper/shreck/flamethrower six man blister.

Looks like the army set comes with two extra plastic figures.
10+10+10+3+1 = 34 plastic FJ out of six 6-man sprues. So... Artillery Observer or Medic team!

One is already penciled in as the Mortar spotter on the list I saw.

EDIT: oh, you included that...

That list doesn't explicitly specify how many FG-42s are included, unless bizarrely they're using them as snipers? Recent production models of that gun have been found to be excellent DMRs (as opposed to the LMG the Americans developed them into), but IIRC back when the Germans were actually using them they were fielded just as battle rifles.

Digressing somewhat, but aye, those are a gun which I wouldn't mind having in 28mm, though knowing how many you get in a box would be helpful.

Hm.... do I want/need yet another unpainted German army for BA/28mm?

The FG-42 isn't on the weapons sprue, so there's going to be multiples of 5 in the box. I thought it was always sort of a DMR (short wiki run put me straight already) so I'd have guessed five, but now you mention it, it might actually be more.

In game the FG-42 is considered and Assault Rifle so... at least 8

From what I understand, three FG42 automatic rifles per sprue of six Fallschirmjager.

Sounds right, that's the proportion of Assault Rifles in the Grenadier box too.

If only they'd snuck a few gas mask heads in there. They look really nice though. Seems like a nice selection of weapons, too.

Was there some action the Fallschirmjager were at that they wore their gas masks?

None that I'm aware of. Just wishing I could make them into plastic Steel Legion with as little effort as possible. Guess that's what Mad Robot is for.

Those would make for some awesome conversions. IIRC although Lasguns are a bit too bit for BA bodies. Here's one conversion I've seen;

Warlord and WWP both already do a couple Gas masked head sets for Natzees in white metal.

The Fallschimjaeger look dymanic and wonderful, and its always great to get some more French stuff.

I don't play (or care much about) Judge Dredd.... but holy cow does 1990 want their resin casting back. That is not a very nice kit.

If their upcoming US paratroopers looks half as good as their German counterparts, I'll be buying a few hundred £ of them.
