i still haven´t got the foggiest idea what to do for my steampunk praetorian army as a worthy shrine/alter/place of worship...

what i am rather clear about... it will have a light show... but after that technical gimick... all is uncertain...

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Here's a work in progress sculpt of the winged statue i'll be using for my Terrain piece, once it's finished i'll make a mold, then cast up some copy's.
These will then be used as details on the ruins surrounding my Shrine.

I think I'll join too. Maybe a huge cauldron full of body parts for some ogres.
Get me if I'm wrong but any harden warrior or soldier would surely worship there weapons? So defiantly a cannon could be an option?

AWESOME!!

My opinion, that looks like something that would be on the side of a square column, either on two sides or all four.... will it be stone? Looks a lot like a medieval stone carving, but the sword looks as if it would be fragile as stone, I'm sure you have some kind of plan for that.

This is right up my street, im in. Not sure exactly what mine will be yet, probally something space marine related or at the least imperial based.
The new deadlines great gives me plenty of time, also looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with.

Quick question, would it be ok to use one of my current work in progress piece's, finish it and use it on my entry?

Great to have you on board!

That is fine, and I'm sure others have done the same... just take pics of what you started with.

Dammit h1x1 - your statues and shrine sculpts are so fething awesome... Your piece is going to set the standard I think... I need to get a move on with planning mine

@ Ruglud: Those statues are very 40k to begin with... definitely awesome inspiration... I'm guessing you've seen it in person?

I wonder if because of the iconography of death in the Imperium... a skeleton wouldn't be depicted like that. It's usually the opposite.... death is the Imperium itself, as in images of the corpse-emperor, space marines as angels of death, skulls as the main symbol of the Imperium. So a victory over death is anti-imperial! Probably also no need to have nudity, that is a neo-classical style and the imperium is more based on Medieval gothic (or depending, also high renaissance) sculpture, which would usually be heavily clothed/armored. But it all depends on the planet!

I love the chains coming from the lion's mouth... just replace lions with skulls... and you're good to go!

I'm with you Meade - need to change the imagery around somewhat - think an Angel of Death will be the focal point with a 'hero of the imperium' figure playing second fiddle. As much as I dislike the use of skulls in 40K I can't deny they'll look good in place of the lion heads. I'm toying with the defeated enemy figures around the plinth being Zeno scum of some type and most likely dead / dying...

There will also be no nudity here, at least not of the male persuasion - in the immortal words of The Pub Landlord - "I was never confused..."

NSFW but fething funny

Edging forwards. Feet, knees, hips, loincloth and body all pinned, but not glued or fixed in place. Need to pin the head, which will be fairly easy. Also need to pin the arms, which will be more crucial. After that is fixing and greenstuffing... Might be a good idea to paint before I fix the arms in place...

@the Pub Landlord... LOL!

Any way sounds good... xeno scum would work but scraggly looking humans would probably work too, representing heretics/mutant scum, the enemy within....

I'll offer 'best effort' on this one. I've had an idea for a long time to make a WFB Beastmen Herdstone, and it would have an application for my 40K table as well so it won't be a 'dead' piece of terrain.

The whole point of the contest is to have a community environment where everyone is doing one theme at the same time... and provide that extra incentive to go the extra mile, complete the task instead of have it sit on the shelf half done, and learn techniques from each other as peers. I mean I could go on and on about that. A big part of the reason for that is that this is a casual online contest, with no entry fee.

So, I will most likely give the prize (which is worth money... when we get down to it) to someone who helps fulfill that... however as I said above I don't have a problem with people who take a previous work and expand on it or finish it, just as long as there is something that helps convince me you were working on it for this contest.

Then again there is nothing stopping you from sharing, that is the whole point.
