My sister is bringing over my 6-year-old nephew to my home for the first time. It's where I keep all my stuff, including my miniatures!
I wasn't anxious until now...

My gal flipped her lid one day and knocked about 3000 points of unpainted orks, 1500 of painted wood elves, and 1000 points if vc off my shelf in my office onto te carpet, in the process breaking 30 skeletons, 4/6 killa kans and various other slight breaks, and bends.
She was switching bipolar medication, and yeah. It was rough. I thought it was over right then.
Long letter apology and the sincerity I perceived led me to forgive her. The Taurus judge with crimson tracer in grip she signed over to me may have helped convince me a bit too.
All in all, didn't lose as much as I thought originally and was economically probably a gain.

Well, some of us are old....so lots of things have happened. Some of the worse:
Had a very well painted Old Orc Wyvern (the one with the ball spike tail) which was on the table while we played a huge game (a siege) at a gaming store. Little kid thought it was very cool, reached up and picked it up, then dropped it. I had used pinning and epoxy, so it did not break at the joins, but the actual metal broke in half - and the paint job was ruined. Now it was really well painted (for that era), and up until that point probably my best painted model and I had won a few contests with it, and had planned on entering Golden Demon with it.....
Was at a very large convention and someone decided to reach through a curtain at a booth (I was helping a seller by manning their booth for them for a bit) and take my army. Luckily i had a LOT of friends there, and they found my army. 4-5 of the biggest gamers around, security, and somehow the guy remembered it wasn't his army.....at least I got it back and he was banned from the Con for life.
Entered a tourney at Gen-Con. My friend was helping me carry my cases with my Eldar army down the stairs, and he lost the cases he was carrying. Just happened to have all of my bigger stuff (warwalkers, swooping hawks, jetbikes (old metal ones) which broke apart. Got lucky in that my first round opponent was happy to let me glue them together during his first turn (and after deployment). I ran my Farseer in front of his guns trying to lose the game, but he just wouldn't die. I ended up working with him about 6 months later. Of course the paint on my figs was pretty much ruined. I never painted another Eldar army (One of the few 40k armies I haven't repainted.)
Roommate stole a bunch of things - armies (Vampire Counts, Imperial Fists, Dogs of War, and others), books (Realm of Chaos sets x2, old paint guides, about 100 White Dwarfs, etc). My Armorcast Gargant, A few Swords, and a bunch of other stuff. Police were called. They were not really going to do anything, but I went and visited a detective. I called the roommate and he admitted stealing them. He took them (And told all of our coworkers) because he thought I was behind on rent and he was going to lose the money in the security deposit. I'd moved across country and sent the rent to the office (and not him). And I had the security deposit already given to me when I called him. He had received his the day before. The officer had me make a list of all of the missing items. When he came to meet me to return them he showed up with about half of it. And when I asked him about he rest he said...I couldn't fit it all in my car....and then he said he didn't have it all, he had no idea where it had gone....and then he said he had no idea about some of them, but said he already owned them......The detective explained who he was and all of a sudden he knew where everything had gone. He called some friends and they all brought it to us (better than facing charges of theft I guess). He never faced charges because most of it was returned. Eventually I found out that the mechanicus figs were missing ( I had a full set including the unreleased guns) and a few other odds and ends. I still hope he burns in hell.
And recently I too have lost several armies (and books) to the kids. [Or at least I bought them new stuff instead of getting a new army for me...;-)]
And one of our puppies likes to eat paint bottles. He's only gotten to three...but I had him fixed, if he doesn't eat anymore I'll consider us even.

I remember when I first got into playing Warmachine there was a wheelchair bound player who dropped his entire army on the parking lot. Everyone felt so bad for him we all went out to find every piece of every miniature we could and ended up finding pretty much everything. Except and arm for one of his Warjacks. It wasn't found until the next day, which, by the time one of the gamers found it(undamaged mind you!) several people had been in and out of the parking spot he'd found it in.
Now that's community

Came home from work one day and the wife hands me a box and a six pack of beer. Seems the cats were playing in the basement and knocked 13 Dark Eldar raiders/Ravagers off the shelf onto the floor. Not a single one was intact.

Being bipolar and all Im fairly sure she doesnt need to be in possession (or have access to) a firearm, probably best you have it now.

I recently lost this guy, my first ever conversion i did
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-31037-18029_Chaos%20Lord%20With%20Daemon%20Weapon%20And%20Power%20Armour.html
The puppy managed to get hold of him (I don't even know how) and chewed him irreparably.
All that's left is his backpack (it was metal) He had sentimental value. Since the modeling aspect is my main drive for 40k, losing the model that kicked it all off sucks.

Knew this guy at my club who payed alot of money into his Eldar army, bought one of the big Avatars with spears from Forgeworld. Once after a Apoc campaign game we had he was packing his stuff into his car (several army cases and boxes), he accidently left the Avatar on the roof and drove off, he didnt realise until he got home. When he drove back to go and find any remaining pieces all he found was the torso, an arm and leg I think.
The best part is he sold the parts on eBay for something like £20!

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

I swear i cringed when i read that. It's just painful to read.
Worst thing to happen to my guardsmen happened a few months ago. My dad was helping me install some new blinds in my room and to get to the window above my desk he had to step onto the desk itself. Well at one point he moved his foot and stepped on a few guardsmen i had foolishly not moved before hand. When he realised he had stepped on something he quickly moved his foot again causing him to step on the leman russ i had also foolishly neglected to move. Barring the antenna on the Russ everything else was an easy fixed though.

probably the defining point of me NOT playing tyranids. took a genestealer to school when i was in year 5 or 6, i had this awesome (or so i thought back then) colour scheme with enamel paints, and i was doing what you do and i sat down and had it in my bag, but the books squished it bad, i wasn't into nid's from that point onward's (though i have attempted several nid armies over the years, i am taken back to that fateful day)

Oh i forgot this story until this almost happened again.
I went off to work for 2 hours(small job)
Well my mom was watching my cousins kids(4-2 at the time i believe) And well. She let them in my room. IDK why but she did. She thought she was lettling them watch TV, Nope, they picked up all my expensive models that i saved for months and threw them around(thank god they didnt get the knifes)
those kids are no longer allowed in my room even 4 years later.

I had all of my imperial guard infantry in some foam on the ledge of my game room loft. I was sorting through stuff and needed a place to put them temporarily. Anyway, it kind of took a spill over the side and clattered all over the stairs below. I probably had to reglue pieces to 20-25 guys, not to mention paint up and replace weapons/decorations/etc that I still to this day haven't been able to find.
