In terms of Special Characters, Archaon is pretty insane.

Tyrion of the HE is also pretty insane, as the book stands right now.

I also still like Grimgor--he's not that expensive, and he can cause some serious damage.

Toe to toe, though, these Greater Daemons sound scary. Of course, that makes sense, for Greater Daemons...

Throwing this one out there, a glass cannon but, if he's thrown in with a couple of other big bosses the opponent can lose track of the bugger until he womps someone in combat and they kill him next round... (wurzag was my last victim, but anyhow)

NG warboss, light armor, shield, battle axe of the last waaaagh
5+/6+ (You get parry save for magic weapon + mundane shield right? I was under impression you didn't get the parry save if you had a magic shield)

WS 5, S 4, 4 Attacks at I5..

every round +D6 S and A. Subtract half that amount from WS.

if ya rolled a 6

10 S10 WS 2 I5 attacks. Sucks vs a lot, but has it's moments. I take it in my fun list

You need the grail vow and The Grail Shield.
The armor that gives 4+ ward is 50 points, 40 for the heroic killing blow, leaving you only 10 points to buy the 25 point sword.

With grail shield and grailknight, he's 2+/4++ for 262 points.

Vows do not count towards magic items limit.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I still like Skulltaker a lot for low budget super killy.

3+ armor, 5+ ward, flaming, magic, KB attack and HKB in challenges. Hatred, MR2. Has a WS9 and I9 so he's generally going to go before anything not ASF.

So in a challenge he's going to reroll any misses and he basically hits everything on a 3+. That gives him AROUND a 2/3rd's chance of getting a HKB on his target. Of course they can still take ward saves.

While there are many units a lot better (only 2W) he only costs 200pts. He's got a psychological influence. Whatever characters you have listed in this thread, you're likely going to see Skulltaker and pause, even though they probably cost 2-3 times as much. Maybe even because they cost so much more.

Actually, with how easy he is to kill with anything with ASF, I'd roll into him without a 2nd thought. If I can't do 2 wounds to a guy who effectively is only getting a 5+ ward, I need to re-think my fighting lord.
I'm more worried about the ~9 killing blow attacks from the bloodletter than only 4 from skulltaking.

FYI, I think it's just a 4+ armor save; scaly skin saves don't stack, so you take the better one.

Most people don't take ASF on high init Lords because it's redundant. Your Vamp you posted does, your Dwarf you posted didn't. More than half the people in this thread don't have ASF. You get to a sweet spot in init and go, meh, that's fast enough. Which is true. But you still got someone who has a chance to HKB.

As for KB in general, that's one big thing that's good about MI or mounted heroes. Being just a regular infantry can be hazardous. Though being a monster is moreso.

Bloodthirsters are great they are great at killing everything and don't even need a mount! They are basically a lord on dragon all in one model. Admittedly they can be carved up by a really dedicated character but still they are a pretty terrifying prospect.

I take ASF on my Vampire lord, not to go first, but to prevent better characters from re-rolling to hit me.
I've lost enough games from vampires from lucky rolls by the opponent that I'd rather do a little less damage and reduce that of my opponent.

My dwarf lord didn't have ASF, because I was thinking 7th edition where you couldn't killing blow him. In 8th, I'd rework him to have immunity to poison and killing blow (15 points).
Also, limiting opponents strength to 5, he's very unlikely to get whacked before he swings.

This is exactly what I would have said. He just goes crazy in storm of magic games.

ASF with higher init = re-roll hits which is awesome when trying to run up the score with models that typically wound on 2+.

I know the rule. But reroll isn't very awesome when you almost never miss and when you got a finite # of points to spend. If you have to choose between having higher armor or flaming or something else OR maybe 1/8th the time not attacking first...well, I don't know how valuable it is.

Nurgle Daemon princes are stupidly amazing. The ability to gain wounds and toughness for casting spells, and the ability to regain lost wounds for inflicting wounds is just silly.
If you can't kill him before he hits combat (which is pretty quick with flying) you're going to have real trouble downing him. Other than shooting him or feeding him units all game, I have no idea how to stop him.

I can tie him up with super expensive characters of my own, but that's not really a solution, at best it's a draw.

Nah, I'd totally go nurgle.
I'd be perfectly happy to have my daemon prince safely tank a unit all game and keep spitting out nurgle hexes and augments.
