That's a good looking paint-job. Just too bad the model itself looks so stupid.

I'm a little surprised that the Contemptor isn't more popular too.

Is it just because the current dreadnought is so well established? The first one was made back at the start of the 2nd edition, so it has been around for a while. Most of the other patterns I've seen are either much newer or much older.

Because for two arms and a body, it is 89 american, and you still need a book.

Contemptor is a cool design, but it definitely is not for everyone. Excellent job on the model.

From an aesthetic standpoint, I think the proportioning and shape of the model are a bit off, tending to make it look more awkward than menacing. This is subjective, of course. Great paintjob though, and your positioning is very dynamic.

For me, the contemptor looks like a chubby kid with an Iron Man costume. It just looks dumb. It's also a classic case of trying to make a machine look too human. The classic Dread and the Titans also suffer from this to some extent, but they are much more functional looking.

I guess I can see that. From a functional perspective, the giant robot is a totally nonsensical proposal- if you have the technology to make a robot that walks around and stomps on the enemy, you can make a tank that is superior in combat and cheaper.

But since giant robots are cool, we'll fogive them that. Of course, if you don't like the look of this robot, that's different.

Ok, I definitely understand that side of things. Most Forge World pieces are things that gamers say "Dang, that looks cool, and if I have a lot of 'extra' money sometime, I might pick it up." Even if they love the sculpt, not that many people are willing to pay for them.

I think this is the first thread where I've ever seen people who don't like the Contemptor. Strange. I personally love the model and think you've done a fantastic job painting it!

I thought i was the only one who didnt like it.

It has grown on me a little, it's not as bad as the dreadknight or anything but i prefer the look of regular dreadnoughts.

<OFFTOPIC> Really? I hate it. I think the job that the OP did and many others is fantastic, but I do not care for the model. Chubby kid is a good description. I just remember the CHUCK models etc. and when the current "boxy" one came out, fell in love with it. Even thought they started with pilots, the pilots were still wired in, so then after the whole entombed-in-a-sarcophagus thing, the square one looks appropriate. < />

Anyway, you did a great job, Odinsgrandson. Can this thing do two assault cannons? I love assault cannons.

Wonderful job on the painting, I love Storm Lords, great scheme. You have a nice job on this one, it is just the Contemptor looks like the Stay-Puft marshmallow man to me.

I paint on commission, so my client bought both the mini and the book with the rules in it. I don't have any of the Forge World books, so I'm totally in the dark as to how this guy plays.

I've done so many Space Marine forces that I really want to make a power armored tribute squad for Space Hulk in which I include one of each of the more prominent forces I've made.

I'm considering a crusade remaindered unit, a DeathWatch Kill Team or Red Corsairs (Corsairs could include some of the Chaos Legions I've painted as well).

Under the couch

It could use some edge highlighting on the red, but the battledamage is good, and the colour scheme really pops on the Contemptor model.

Nice work.

I meant to say "what is wrong with a successor having a Contemptor Dread?"
