I always loved vicious spidery things. Ever since the old chaos codex came out long ago and this picture was in it.

I always wanted giant spider destroyers, and the defiler just was a major let down. I think this sort of thing would be a mechanicus dream. Lots of fiddly moving parts and it mimics a living creature. Almost done with the second one, they are a pain to assemble and to get right where the legs are balancing them, but I think I came up with a new way of doing it that could speed things along.

Now if these are attack bikes, how should I do regular bikes?
1. Same, but make the legs a little smaller, and remove heavy weapons
2. Same but put storm bolter on bottom and rider weapon on top
3. Something completely different (if you choose this then give me an idea)

Attack bikes are the trikes, are they not?
So you want something sleeker, thinner, more 2-wheeled bike... How about some kind of 4 legged, galloping thing. Similar aesthetic but a little less bulk?

@ruglud, thanks, yes more legs go faster, so less legs would be slower....and he bikes have to keep up with the attack bikes.
@Vik and Dr. H, while I like the idea of less legs and keeping the platform similar, I find that I couldn't fit all four legs on a bike base. I would love to do a dog looking bike, hence the robot wars attempt, but I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

So I got thinking, how do I keep the body, and keep the mechanicus idea....
Well the ymbol of he mechanicus is a giant cog with a skull in the middle, so why don't I make a servo skull cog?

He's new so he gets a training wheel , I don't know if I could use his as episode 7 of when servo skulls attack, but I can just see the other servo skulls making fun of his newb who needs a training when on his monocycle because his processor can't keep balance yet.

The business side with the twin bolters for counts as bike.

The training wheel is not permanently attached, I will try and make a cog about the same size later, it's just a place holder so you get the idea.

What do you think???

Wow....either I stupefied everyone with incredible awesomeness....or more likely your trying to save my feelings by not telling me how bad it is.

Well I worked on it some more, replaced the wheel with a second cog. I still need to fill the sprockets, or cap the end of them with pc.

Please let me know good, bad and dumb of what you think, it will help them to evolve.

It seemed to be a quiet DDakka day yesterday, not as much traffic as usual for mid-week.

I did see your unveiling of the cog and left my mind to think about it (it works best when I don't interfere ) and see how your evolution came on.

No prime computations yet (if you get the reference ), but I think the teeth on the large cog are too big for the diameter of the "hub" OR they are too straight, sloping sides may make the length seem more natural...

The smaller one looks ok, but the big one looks more "paddle wheel" than cog.

@minion Dave, I'm thinking of trying to do a stamp of the mechanicus symbol to put on the ends of each sprocket, failing that either rivets or the prongs used on the bulldozers at trash dumps. Some of the sides might also get some details like wires as well.
@Dr. H, yep it's been slow yesterday. We took our kids for a two hour drive to Springfield, Illinois to visit the Lincoln museum and library. Very good time, and a great day-cation. I checked in as often as I could on my iPhone (which I hate doing) before my wife gave me the talk . Unfortunately the sprockets had to be that long on this one to accommodate the training cog , maybe a little work around the sis will reduce that look.

Off to the grandparents house today. With the basement having been done as much as I can do, now it's time o work on the 3000sq. Ft unfinished attic of storage . The kids start school again next thursday, which frees me up even more

@nerdfest, they aren't giant saks chasing you, but still scary none the less.

Only worked at the grandparents for two hours. Still cleaned out about 4 90gallon trash cans full of stuff. And that was just to clear off the stairway TO the attic. Did find some nice stuff that he let me have instead of pitching or recycling. Got some old scrap pieces of gutter cover to use as fencing/grating, a few lawn tools that he had multiples of because he couldn't find the other ones which were deeper in the same piles, and then I found these...

Empty co2 cylinders from pellet guns. I think they may make some nice large propane tanks. They are almost 3/4" diameter so I can make some bracing for them relatively easy. Over all length is 3 1/4" with the valve end being roughly 3/8"

I'll see what they turn into

when those canisters are empty... are they totally secure? just checking... you never know...

as for the quiet day yesterday... we had some very hot and humid days the last ...er...days... and my sysetm went all the way downhill...so i followed it and went to bet at 10... if i do so i always feel even more old than i actually am

now back to topics...

the doomwheels look rather good...the very idea to use these bitz of the hatches in that way is again a living testament to your genius!... the servo skull i would put in always in an upright position... i imagine a clever inner device to keep it in a static position even if the whole thingy is spinning like crazy...
the weaponry you added looked fine too...i agree with dave that the ends of the cogteeth needs additional texture... maybe just embossed card?

also on a related subject... for your next build of these i would suggest making a perfect hexagon first... or rather three to get the right thickness of your desire... and then you can have the cogteeth in perfect position.,., as of now the eye is drawn to the odd placed teeth... i had that happen to me too with my captian victory´s shield... and it dorve me crazy...no end...

also... on the above story of your gandparents... sorry if i am stepping on your tes for asking... but what you here describe sounds rather like a case of being a messy... dunno if that term fits in an english surrounding... but that looks like a bad habit turned out even worse...are the grandparents all right? sorry if my tone might sound out of place...it wasn´t to be inteded to be disrespectful...

Vik, the canisters are totally secure once empty, I think they might have just been compressed air and no co2. Basically just a metal shell.

The grandparents are mentally alright, just have had bad health issues with plenty of hoarding to go with it. Nanny had cancer when I met my wife and was told she had weeks to live. Thirteen years later she's totally clear of any signs of hat but has had both knees, a hip or two, and back surgery along with other procedures which keep her from going up or own steps. Poppy has had multiple back surgeries, neck surgery that almost put him in a wheelchair, arm and shoulder surgeries and an infection that almost killed him. He is struggling to walk now since the last surgery, but getting his legs back. He keeps everything because he wants to build and make things as he is An engineer who designed and built mining equipment and vehicles similar to catapillar tractors. I unfortunately see lot of me in him, my hobby area would look like his house if I were to not clear it out often. Their housekeeper, is a friend hat has worked one day a week for then for the last thirty years. She lends more Imelda sitting and talking with nanny than leaning, but still gets paid, but I guess when your 60+, it's not likely to be down on your hands nod knees cleaning for others.

On the minion bomb, I must tell you that your grot bomb was. Huge factor in its creation. It will get rivets of course, but I think it is obvious it must be a bad moons clan, and yellow, with lucky blue pants.

I will have mother look at the sprocket placements, I used the notches on the hatches as guides.

Well vik, it might become a walker since I have an idea for shoes , and an idea to paint him as a fast food franchise symbol in necromunda.

Big boy becomes "Dave's Dogs" may have to be "G____'s Gerkins" as it has the G from gru labs on the front of his apron though.

Also his twin brother didn't fair so well, and just became my original idea of a propane tank.

@dave, the round bit at top is the back of the servo searchlight from the fortress of redemption, I think it looks the part. The only thing is these are proportionally smaller than the ones you see behind homes and businesses.

I was having far too much fun with this today....so here's episode 8 "do you want fries with that"

I think the 50's hold good times for us here in the states Vik. Post WWII, the baby boom, and Americans becoming so capitalistic. All the troops that came home began to settle down, buy homes, t.v., cars all the new and innovative stuff that came out then. Our economy was cranking and we had money to spend. We look back at hose times with fondness. Germany had the iron curtain around them, fear of he Russians and still getting over the war and finding out everything that Hitler and the bosses had done. I can see why it's not a good feeling time period for you guys.

Along those lines on our long drive yesterday we passed an antique mall (didn't go inside), but outside was a Giant Paul Bunyan statue, a big boy, a huge "UFO" playground building with windows on all sides and up on stilts, old cars and next to it was an ice cream store that was in the shape of a ice cream cone.

Because we actually made quality stuff in the 50s. Problem is, it's been over-romanticized over the years. Baby-boomers are retiring, and pay to refurbish it.

Well I went on a supply run, looking for ghost buster toys for Dave. Didn't find any. But hit my flags and picked up a package of instant mold, I'll have to try it out tomorrow if I get a chance. Also thought I should show off the other item I got at the grandparents.

I got quite a bit of the black plastic, which is gutter guard from twenty years ago or so. You can also see the instant mold I got.

Careful observers may also notice another scatter piece I built earlier. It will be the dumpster for the fast food franchise "name still to be determined"

Closer pic
Also I cut a length of the gutter guard stuff be because I had an idea, and wrapped it around a pen.

Once taken off it looks like good razor wire to me, what do you think?

There's actual stranding in the plastic mold that upon close look makes it really neat.

no burgers, protein sticks.
And where do you put the protein stick wrappers if your a busy ganger on the run from the adeptus arbites? Well you could just toss it on the grouns, but that would be littering and extend your time as a future servo skull. Just stop by one of the many trash cans/heater units along the street. But be careful if thowing your wrapper into an already lit up can as the grease from the protein stick has been known to be used as a replacement for promethium when guard units are in serious need.
