Subject: Meganob- Samurai stylie - How armoured?

Hey all,
Just got back from Thailand -> hence a large amount of asian influence coursing my veins
I want to build a Meganob that has a samurai style to it. I considered making a unit of boys with samurai armour, but i wanted a big bad ass samurai so opted to do a MN. At current just looking through source material to get an idea of armour plates.
After looking at usual samurai garb, its reasonably well armoured but I have the feeling it will look a little 'lightly' armoured to look like mega armour.
So I then thought perhaps more like this: (mostly cos im a big sucker punch fan too)
These seem to appear more armoured to fit in the MN style.
I was thinking start with an underlayer of armour in a light style then add the heavier classic samurai armour on top? I.E: Shoulder pads, leg guards and helmet. I dont particularly wanting it looking robotic like normal mega armour, more like super plating.
Any input guys? I see loads of IG conversions to samurai's, but not many orks.
Obviously he'll carry a nice big samurai style sword too

I think it would be both eye catching and unique. You could model it to look like he used sheets of scrap metal, piling them up till it looks good and heavy.

check yeri's work out mate
Thanks for the link First ive seen of much work done on samurai orks. (not that I spent hours looking in any case).
I definitely plan on using GS for most of the pads, but il use some thin plasticard to get the inital shape and add GS on top to bulk it and detail. That way I think it will sit better on the model. Not sure how 'scrapy' I want the meganob armour to look. As I always loved the ornate-ness of samurai armour. il update with some photos later as I finished creating the skeleton for the nob body.

I think you would be better off with overlapping plasticard plates than GS for Orks - more brutal less puffy - definitely potential in the idea though.
Not sure if this counts as "samurai style" (probably not - if I remember correctly I was going for anime...)

hmm, I'll have to try a couple variations. I dont want it to look overly scrapy. Hes gona be like a flashgitz meganob. All style and jazz
--> Scrapy platicard under garnments/base armour. Big heavy plates on top covered in samurai bling. Scroll work too, covered in bloody glyphs.
nono! Really loving the sword I was thinking of something similar. Really liking the grip. I thought about sticking with the traditional samurai katana blade. But on a meganob I thought it'd look rather flimsy (unless it was absolutely huge). So gona go with more of a scimitar style.
I was considering a two-handed overhead swing position, but couldnt think what I would do with his gun. Currently thinking: Shoulder mounted cannon (predator style)Strapped to his backwrist mounted
But I am not too keen on clogging up the shoulder or wrists.

Could Meganobs get such advanced armour as Lamellar?
I think the threading may be a bit too difficult for the average ork. Consider putting Grots in the lamellar, their little fingers would take to it much more easily!

Well rather than the ornate cording, make it look like rings holding the plates together, like bits of chain.

Did someone say "Shoulder mounted cannon (predator style)"?
(Sorry, I've just finished these, so I'm a bit ecstatic to share)
Back on topic, other suggestions for the gun would be *on* the sword - either both barrels on one side or one on each side.

Samurai armour is ornate cording.

The main problem is that when people trying to make somthing to look like a samurai armour, they really trying to make it like it is looking at our time and i our world, but 40k and Orks especoialy do not share our, human, vision of design. So you better to think to not to copy/paste samurai' armour patter but to interpret it in far away future with junk as a material.

But then at the same time you can say two people can have the same idea without being influenced by each other. So even in a universe totally separate to our own armour exactly the same as samurai armour could be created. Slim pickings, but not impossible. But i get ya point At the moment the theme for my army is quite joker-esque. For example I am currently working on a stormboy who is simply holding a bunch of ballons, so the use of samurai armour may not be totally within the current parameters of the 40k universe, but its pretty much within the theme of my army. Perhaps he found it upon raiding a historical monument filled with extremely old artefacts within the imperium, loved the style and beat a load of grots till they made him some?
Plus a major point is that my conversions skills aren't fantastic at any rate! so it'll probably look scrapy anyway
