Okay. I have that middle guy and had badly half painted him years ago, but it turned out really badly. Your pic just inspired me to redo him and, well, rip off your rusted, nurgly armour because it looks bloody good.

HaHa Same here ! That figure has been in brake fluid for about 6 weeks ! I was amazed at all the little details that suddenly appeared when the crud came off !!

The sword is mostly carved plasticard as the rest was snapped off....

Thanks mate.

I had no intention of doing any dwarfs but the boy has been ferreting around in the attic and "found" them, I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.

So , had a few hours to kill today , did I get some serious time on the Hulk Mortallis boards ? Or the basecoated Fellblade ? Or build some of the Anvil infantry laying in there box still ?

No

I spent it putting some more weathering on tanks until recently I would have called finished, good times.

LOL , isn't that how everyone does it ?

Bugger.

Well , I got quite a bit of flooring done today.
I worked out how big an area the corridors and rooms came to , and it turns out if I was to buy laser cut MDF I'd need about £100 worth of it.

So, decided to make my own ! The basic floor was made from plasterer's mesh, which coincidently was the same width as my floor base. Then I managed to use up nearly all my Plasticard checker plate, a ton of plain plasticard, a cornflakes box and all my U shape girder and angle girder.

Oh and a litre of PVA, yes, a WHOLE litre !

I wanted some really fine grit to represent crud and melted steel on the edges of holes but my sand was too coarse, thought salt might be perfect but it dissolved in the PVA and hasn't stuck properly , so hopefully some paint will stick it down.

This is without doubt the biggest project I've started to date, and its fun !

And expensive !

I now need to add approximately a million rivets, any of you professional riveters care to pass on a fool proof quick rivet ? I was thinking of drilling holes and adding cut down dress makers pins ?

OK , need help here.

I'm sat thinking on a colour scheme for the Space Hulk corridors and Zone Mortalis boards.

I think its a given there'll be some black and yellow striping , and some details in bronze or red , maybe some duck egg green engine parts etc but for main colour ?

Grey ? Really dark / gloomy / gritty with patches of extreme highlights and OSL from corridor lamps.

OR
Stark white ? Extremely chipped and weathered white / pale grey, with hard "florescent" OSL from corridor lamps.

Comments appreciated !

So , the boy thinks me making a Space Hulk is "unfair" and I should make some Warhammer Fantasy scenery instead.

Hmmm

Anyhow, a few hours in the scenery bits box resulted in a cunning compromise of a WHFB building, that could at a push, be used in 40K.

Wow, nice scenery. Really coming out strong. I love that tank, such a behemoth. I have to steal some ideas from your ZM boards. Great details, I especially like the pipes under the floors.

Yeah nice scenery for a scrounge through your bits man! :-) I will second the choice for a light coloured ZM board, I'm going with a pale grey/white walls and worn metal/copper floor with a few chips and stains on mine and i'd like to see you do it properly then I'll steal your ideas...... so off you go! get to it

;-)

LOL , trying my best mate , but my use of salt as rust / crud was a BAD mistake.

NEVER use salt to represent anything on a model , it just keeps dissolving and coming through the paint , its been a real drama , and taken two coats of black primer and four of varnish to fully seal it in before I even dare begin to start painting !
[Thumb - DSCF1609.JPG]
You can see the salt crystals that keep breaking thru the paint. A real pain in the ass.

Oh crap dude! that sucks :-( I hate when that sort of setback appears! but you've fixed it right? maybe fine sand would have been better? :-)

I've got next week off work and I think I might have to do some more ZM work so I don't fall behind! I feel our boards are kind of a joint project across the oceans.... *insert cool dreamy music*

Bad things happen. Just take it as a lesson learned for the future.
Did you try ordinary (fine) sand with some PVA or a structure paste (e.g Red Oxide from Vallejo) instead?
Should give the same effect but without the bad effect.

Yep , all fixed , the varnish finally sealed it all in.
Fine sand would have been WAY easier but I just didn't have anything fine enough at the time ( my usual sand is a mix of coarse building sand and shot blasting steel slag from when I once worked shot blasting agricultural machinery ....)

I'm waving my lighter in the air for the joint project emotion !

It certainly is a lesson learned.

I will find some fine sand for the future !

Got a bit of detailing done on the boards , mainly shell casings and had a go at rivets, got a lot stuck to my thumb.

Built a few detail panels and a "Mechanicus thing" as well.

Also , went to Warhammer World the other day with my boy, some really awesome painting on display.

But if me and you Nerdy think we're getting plenty of ZM boards made we should look at GW's , who quite frankly, are just showing off...

I am :-)

A ZM builders League is a cool idea , with affiliations to the "Space Hulk Builders and Riveters Association" ?

Great minds buddy , great minds !

To be fair that made sense to me

I hope no one will be too dissatisfied but I am changing the name and content of this blog slightly to more incorporate all the other stuff I'm doing and also so I don't have to keep starting and finishing WIP blogs.

It will mostly be Marines , with Zone Hulk and some Nurgle stuff thrown in. And probably a load of sh@@bag dwarves my son wants painting.
Without input from him I can't realistically claim all the time spent at the hobby table is for his army !
