Cough *FW* cough

Storm eagle/Spartan etc...but admittedly, they are both far more expensive than a land raider.
I'm going to run my storm eagle with 9 termies and Abaddon. It's asking to be shot down, but it will be a glorious charge!

I do. They're one of the few troops units the eldar have that can actually take a punch.

My wraithguard laugh at both plasma and CC. They are that expensive in points it may as well be 'go big or go home'

So my wraithguard will have either re-rollable 2+cover or re-rollable 4++, 4+FNP and hit and run. But thats just against WG. It's just easier to heldrake them to death, that works much better than termies. Overall, I completely agree with you. All powerfists won't kill them any faster then normal cc weapons. A mix of cc weapons and combis it the way to go IMO. All powerfists is expensive and it's asking to be pummeled by squad at normal initiative. Termies die to weight of attacks. A good mix of weapons means means you can deal with the big stuff, but you're less likely to go down without causing some casualties yourselves.
I'm going to run slaanesh temies with a mix of CC at some point. I like the sound of I5 and FNP.

Are Storm Eagle and thunderhawk legal for standard 40k game? Because those are loyalist marine stuff? Can chaos field them? I know you can in apocalypse. But normal games I guess not?

The Storm Eagle is. It's in imperial aeronautica. Chaos is allowed - I've checked...I've got one

The Thunderhawk is apoc only and I don't think there is a chaos version.

I've been playing terminators a lot. And they just die so quickly! and They dont have fearless. They are cheaper and of course less resilient as compared to loyalist terminators.
They die half as quickly as normal CSM. A 2+ save is going to fail 50% less often than a 3+ save. While they are more vulnerable than CSM to AP2 weapons (on a point for point basis) they are much more resiliant to AP3 weapons -- like helldrakes. So their durability is highly dependent on your local meta.
I think your CSM termies should be cheap. Keep them cheap so you don't care as much when they die. Losing a 32 point model is annoying. Losing a 50 point model is painful.
Even bare bones they are a threat. 10 of them have a huge footprint and can threaten multiple models. If you have 1 or 2 with a chain fist, they can threaten any vehicle. Power axes on the others will threaten infantry. They all have relentless and combi-bolters so can threaten models in short range shooting.

If your problem is them not being fearless, add a lord to them. A lord transfers fearless to the squad, giving them the ability to not care.

If I took them, it would be three naked ones with a nearly naked land raider. Get another piece of heavy armor on the table with a few guys who can bully light infantry.

I've always had a problem with using the CSM LR as a delivery machine. The CSM LR is armed for long range combat. The only short range tool it has is being an assault vehicle.
Utilizing it as an assault vehicle tends to ignore the weaponry on it. That's why I use it as a counter-assault tool.

Most efficient use of CSM termis, are to deep strike them in and use their combi weapons. You could walk them up the board, but that's really slow compared to your much faster chaos spawn.

Putting them in a landraider is kinda inefficient, points wise. But maybe in some lists it would work.

You can always take that forgeworld land raider with the multi meltas & the thunderfire cannon. Chaos can take anything loyalists can take as far as FW goes. I think theres something explicitly stating that in IA.

No they cannot. There are some things they can take but most things are still off limits.

Their effectiveness really depends on everyone's own meta like Exergy pointed out. If I'm playing someone with out a lot of plasma or AP 2 available to them, I love to use them. If I'm against Vendettas and Veterans, they definetly aren't going to be worth writing home to mom about. If you deal with a lot of Necron Air and Heldrakes, the 2+ makes them a really good unit to ignore them and still get some kills in the Heldrakes threat range.

It doesn't matter what is being shot at them, they have a 50/50 chance of being killed. It either happens or it doesn't.

Can you elaborate on this please? What has a 50% chance of killing a CSM terminator?

statistically speaking a BS 5 character with a plasma pistol can kill a CSM terminator 50% of the time.

(.866) to hit x (.866) to wound x ( .66%) invulnerable save.
~49.494949%

But outside of that, and a few other high BS, tl, poisoned attackers CSM termis should survive quite nicely.

Anything does. 50/50 they either die or they don't.

well, 46.3%.

6 potential hit possibilities, 6 potential wound possibilities, 6 potential invuln save possibilities. 216 possible outcomes. 100 possible outcomes for killing the target.

But meh, might as well just roll a D3 at the start of a game to see whether it's a win, loss or draw due to the logic presented by yourself.

The way most people view it is that terminator armor gives you an 83.34% chance of ignoring a wound caused by an ap3 or worse weapon. That leaves a 16.66% chance to still take a wound from the same weapon.
