His battles have seen him running rampant for seven turns, annihilating scores of guardsmen, and several vehicles (against a fraggin' gunline!). Other times, he flies in at the right moment, and the right place to assassinate my opponents most valuable unit (usually a HQ).
He's duelled with Darnath Lysander (which has always come out as a tie for some reason), and forced an entire waaagh to turn around just for a hope of survival.
Every time I field him, I always expect him to get shot down, but to date he has never failed to make an enormous impact on any battle he has ever participated in.
Well, I can imagine this. Did you give him the black mace?

Not yet, but I'm going to be doing that in the future. I've learned that adding in the mastery levels tends not to work out too well for me, so I'll be replacing them with the mace.

My two sentinels with Hunter Killer missiles.
They're scout sentinals with the basic multilasers, and to do date they have killed; Eldrad, more tanks than I could count, several dreadnoughts (in 5th ed, no less), and several Tyranid MCs.
They're mediocre units, but outflanking with two multilasers and HK missiles, and the ability to mess up non-walker vehicles in close combat if they survive the turn they come in has proven invaluable again and again.
They're just useless against an infantry army.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Warp Spiders! They deep strike in, kill a vehicle, and then jump around harassing things while my opponent throws tons of stuff at them. With hit and run they never stay in combat and can keep hopping to where they're needed mst laying down torrents of S6 fire.

Full Squad of Vanguard Vets. Sgt gets LC and SS, MB. One other gets the LC and SS for the other half in a combat squad, if I do that. Expensive, but I always seem to get good service out of them. They've had quite a bit of fun hitting large units of Kroot, Orks, Gaunts, Conscripts and the like in the flank. Rack up a ton of kills vs little to no return attacks, they've been able to sweeping advance a lot of units that way. The best case I think was 18 unsaved wounds inflicted off of Heroic Intervention to one saved wound inbound. Kroot failed the snake eyes roll, luckily they gobbled the remaining Kroot up in the sweep. Consolidation made sure they were then out of LOS of anything that could touch them, next round they assaulted with a JP Chaplain and Sanguinary priest in tow. Love my VV's.

Dakkafex. The Internet tells me it's terrible. My last game it destroyed over 600pts of Dark Eldar before finally being brought down. The game before it killed about 500pts of Eldar. It never fails to be man of the match, and while The Internet tells me Trygons are better... I just don't see it. Those Brainleech Devourers are just amazing.

Heavy Destroyers. Net lists hate them with a passion, but their high mobility allows them to easily get into flanks and blow up enemy tanks.

They''re a very hit or miss unit due to their cost and mediocre B.S. for a gun platform. The nonsensical AP value also hurts.

I think I'm starting to see a trend here. On the internet, the effectiveness of a unit is defined by mathammer, but when you factor in real people, 3-dimensional space and tactics, the story is a lot different.

No, actually, mathhammer is correct most of the time. It's just that when sth. really awesome happens, that sticks to your mind.

They''re a very hit or miss unit due to their cost and mediocre B.S. for a gun platform. The nonsensical AP value also hurts. I'm not joking when I say they perform worse for me. My last game against Dark Eldar, despite having a shot every single turn on their paper airplanes, my Tyrannofex racked up a glorious 0 hull points. As a reward, I tore its head off, put the Tervigon head on, and attached the egg sac. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sigvatr wrote: Selym wrote:I think I'm starting to see a trend here. No, actually, mathhammer is correct most of the time. It's just that when sth. really awesome happens, that sticks to your mind. Well, mathhammer works most of the time because it's always about averages. It needs to be done in a vaccuum, however, unit vs unit, since you can't mathhammer a unit against another unit on a table with potential cover and support from other units. So mathhammer does work for finding general effectiveness, but once the models are on the table, you'll probably find some things work better for you than mathhammer tells you. Take my Dakkafex. If my opponent was concentrating fire on it, it wouldn't have lasted a turn last game against Dark Eldar. Since it dropped behind him while the rest of my army was wngaging him from the front, it had free reign to cause mayhem. That's when mathhammer doesn't work. Within 12" of a Wych squad, the Wych squad can kill it with splinter pistols. When that Wych squad also has a unit of 20 Gaunts barrelling down its throat, it needs to make a choice. If that choice leads them to shooting the gaunts because that's what they want to assault, then failing their charge, they're then eating Devourers next turn. However, mathhammer would say 'don't drop a Carnifex near Wyches, because their splinter pistols can kill it pretty quickly'.

I've gotta say, my first Company Command Squad. The officer and banner bearer have killed more Marines in CC, shot the last wound off of MC's, and melta bombed tanks more than any other unit I own. I bought Creed just to upgrade the generic commander to him and promptly got annihilated.

10 basic termagants. They unlock a tervigon as a troop choice and I always find a use for them. Either they sit in the back and camp an objective from the beginning to the end of the game untouched, or they run forward and tarpit enemy units while Momma-Tervigon sits back and watches with pride.

Allways kill something (and for 30p they make up for their points fast), when they pin its allways been a big + for me.
And they allways soak fire from something nasty, like the time swarmlord chased them up a building resulting in their death (obviously) but swarmlord and his unti got "stuck" and dident get to do much else ^^

My buddy runs a squad of 8 Warp Spiders with an exarch, and they tear stuff up regularly. I'll never understand why the interwebs thinks the current Eldar list is weak. Expensive does not always equal bad.
Anyway, Pink Horrors have been my most underestimated unit. In multiple games they have laid down some great (and timely) supporting fire, and sometimes the target unit actually fails the warpfire test (such as when a healthy Maugan Ra was the last model left and he rolled a 6, followed by my 3 for # of wounds) !!
