The Last Chancer Who Survived

In the fires of war, alliances are forged. Sometimes friendships. Sometimes something so ludicrous happens that you are forever attached to the model that caused it.

I ask of you Dakkanoughts, what is your favorite unit/model that you field in battle, and why? What is it about them that makes them so special?

For me, it's my Daemon Prince of Tzeentch.
I love this guy for these reasons (you don't have to make a list if you don't want to, it's just how I'm posting mine ):

-He was the first model I painted with any degree of skill
-I bought him when I was an UM player, and he ended up turning all my marines into heretics, and thus started my CSM army
-He always turns out to be the single most important model I ever field in a game, as he manages to do far more damage to my enemy's units or strategy than everything else in my army.
-Now has a name and backstory, and makes me smile every time I use him

I like the way it looks, I like the way it was modeled and I like one shotting land raiders.

And I also modeled the tank commander to emulate the "Drive me closer" meme so... bonus man points.

Blood Claws. Yeah, I say it all the time.
But seriosly, a bunch of pranksters in power armor that go around fething up everything.
Plus, they have Lukas the Trickster in their ranks, a guy who pranked and Inquisitor.
'Nuff said.

I just love the sight of them on the table after being deployed from their Drop Pod. It all feels too cinematic
I field 2 full Squads with max combi-weapons and they often win the game turn 1.

Somehow, Someway, I always fit my plasma cannon marine in the game.
He has become the bane of all heavy infantry. I like to think for all his heroics he has pulled(Standing along against war walkers and taking both out with one shot to save his Tau Allies)
I like to think he has refused many promotion because he will miss his cannon.

Zoanthropes. I cannot build a Tyranid list without taking a brood of three. They are so unbelievably versatile and useful, and can choose from a blistering range of power depending on who I am facing. There are so many useful things you can get out of Biomancy/Telekinesis/Telepathy, especially if you bring three of them for 6 rolls on a given table.

They also bring Synapse, Shadows and are fairly durable as well with their 3++.

The Leman Russ Execution is by far my favorite. I played DA before Guard, so I always had a soft spot for plasma cannons and I loved the LR. So when I found out that the IG got a LR that sported a massive plasma cannon, I was sold. My tank so far has never been destroyed in battle and has never let let me down.

I call it Infantry Platoon Alpha. Its a platoon of 50 kriegsman in chimeras who have to date killed:

Typhus in shooting (With nothing but the Standard issue flashlight)
LoC in shooting
Skulltaker in Shooting
GUO in shooting
Space Pope in shooting (Not an achievement really, going to kill him again soon in new codex)
Imotekh in shooting
Zandrekh & Obyron in Shooting

They've got quite a history, I've detailed the platoon up and I use the quartermaster kit + some conversions for the PCS. Looks much more cinematic.

That and my three Bombards. Huge guns turn me on.

Tyranid Warriors.

I seem to be blessed with opponents who do not realize a lascannon/missile launcher/dark lance/bright lance/etc shot will vapourize one, and have even forgone shooting one of said weapons because the only units in range were gaunts and warriors and considered not worth even rolling due to 'only killing one'.

As such, I've gotten good use out of them as a center line synapse base and an offensive fireteam with their Deathspitters and Venom Cannon,

Also, the models are fething gorgeous. 3rd edition models that still put 6th edition models to shame.

The DOOOOOOMMMMM!!!
Every game he has helped - from taking 2000 pts worth of shooting just to take him out to tying up Kharn and his boys from the top of Turn 3 through the Top of Turn 6, without once going back over 4 Wounds.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

For my marines:

Squad of 10 Sternguard in a drop pod, usually with a few combi-meltas, I usually attach a Librarian also.

I actually can't remember a single game, (lower than 1000pts, being the exception) where I haven't used Sternguard, as they are both tactically perfect and cinematically awesome. Plus I love my sternguard paint scheme in comparison to my regular tacs.

For my Chaos:

Kharn.

Used him obsessively with the older chaos codices, he has only gotten better with age, plus he is still my favourite painted model.

Scouts!
I love scouts and think they're really cool. They can be kitted for almost any mission, deploy (almost) anywhere, and I love dropping termies on their homers.

Unfortunately, they suck! I still use 'em all the time though. Here's to the next C:SM making a scout army viable!

For my other army it would be Demolishers. I don't think I've ever played my IG/ABG without at least 2 Demolishers. AV14 S10 AP2 large blasts are just too fun.

I usually always still have at least one squad with camo cloaks and snipers, ocassionally with a ML.

Vulture gunship with punisher cannons. Kills infantry, kills tanks, has vector dancer to keep you from hiding from inevitable death, and it looks awesome while doing it. And there are few things more fun than slowly counting out the 20 dice and then watching your opponent's reaction when they realize that you get to re-roll all your misses.

Definitely my precious precious vindicator... Gotta love moving 12" and still firing that gun.
And now you don't need a direct hit to do full strength on a vehicle! Last game I insta-gibbed a CSM prince sitting next to a rhino and the rhino went poof too. A turn later I killed 8 marines sitting by another rhino, poof.
The game before that I played elder and killed a unit of dark reapers, a farseer and a night spinner in the same shot, as well as stunning the fire prism there too, getting me slay the war lord. The turn after it killed the same fire prism and got me line breaker - winning me the game.

I have a cyborgized swarmlord with a Ushanka coloured like the Soviet flag, complete with a prominent hammer and sickle. The general cybernetic aesthetic is the diesel/teslapunk theme used in the Red Alert series. It's a silly model that gets a lot of "dafuq"s from other people, but it has yet to disappoint me.

A unit of 5 GK purgators, with 4 psycannons and a terminator armour wearing Inquisitor with another psycannon and the primaris power that allows all the guns in his unit to in effect become twin linked.

That tiny unit has become so feared in my gaming group that no matter where I go with them or what cover save I find, all the shooting of the enemy and all manouvering is diverted to take care of them. And they keep managing their saves through everything.

It's funny. The Justicar dies IN EVERY GAME from perils of the warp, but no one else ever dies.

It's the best soldiers in my army with the most useless Justicar. It's like in real life armies.

Recently, it has to be my killa kan mob with grotzookas. I've had them put out a startling number of direct hits that simply obliterated a squad of necromancer, which made the overlord run off the table. They. Also seem to absorb more punishment than they have any right to, up to and including orbital strikes. I had to convert one 'zooka and pretty much scratch build another, which makes me love them far more. This is in direct contrast to my deff dread, who I consider as ablative Hull points for my Kans. He's. Made it into combat once, where he failed so hard that the land speeder he attacked flew off next turn and blew up a stompa. Oops.
