Captain Roderick - Cheers. Those books are jaw dropping and amazing. So glad I got a copy of Lost and the Damned, in a end of line sale at my local GW. Had to pay a bit more for my copy of Slaves to Darkness but it was so worth it.

Logan - That Neil's bloody good at scenery.

I have scans *cough* they just magically appeared on my hard drive one day, no idea how mr officer... And about once or twice a year I roll up a daemon name or a chaos weapon, just because I must :-)

You should make sure you never tell me where you live PDH, otherwise I won't be able to help myself and you might end up missing a window, among other things...

I've always wanted to play a warbands campaign, but never had the right people around me to try. Also the issue you came across (everyone finishing minis before enthusiasm dies) would probably be an issue for me as well.

My God this project is inspiring. Heck, everything you do PDH has been outstanding, and it's equally impressive to see things coming from a close compatriot Neil!

I'm going to have to look into getting my hands on that Realms of Chaos book, I'd love to learn how the game around it works. It's either that or convert the Chaos warband concept over to an all-Chaos bloodbowl board.

Lovely, just lovely. I applaud you sirs, for the entertainment and inspiration you provide. Bravo!

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

Done a little painting of a storm trooper but its no where near finished and I felt I needed to get back into this project. Started building three crossbow men this evening and cutting chucks of plastic out of my donor model to create a winged beast of nurgle mount for my champion.

The crossbow men are heavily inspired by Foot of Tapes Mordheim witch hunters http://footoftape.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/burn-witchand-such.html and my own fallen imperial guard http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/419274-Renegade%20Barauchian%20Guardsman%20.html?m=2. These guys are going to be really quick and easy to make.

Captain Roderick - Thanks for the heads up . I think if we had played it properly, as in rolled up the champ and one group of henchman, painted them - played a game etc - rolled up some more henchman -painted them - played a game etc continued with the campaign etc we would have been fine. I think the problem is we attempted too much in one go so we could have a larger(ish) game when we got together. The other thing is having no control over what is in your warband is difficult for motivation/inspiration.

02Laney - Cheers

lennymaybe - Neil blows me away too.

monkeytroll - Ah us old uns are lucky. The kids these days have no idea about what a good chaos book looks like.

Accolade - Thank you, very kind. Should be easy to do with a blood bowl team. The game is simply Warhammer 2nd edition or 3rd with a shed load of tables to roll on.

STC_LogisEngine - Glad you like it. You are providing me with inspiration over on your =][= blog.

Sheep - Cheers

Drazuul - I'm afraid to say I doubt it will last too long since I feel more at home in 40k....though we all know deep down the Warhammer World is at the centre of a certain Warp Storm.

yeah, that always struck me as well - you end up with compulsory choices that require a lot of modelling and time, and it also seemed like the lack of an experience system meant you were less likely to love those models that required so much time and effort to convert and paint. And they could very easily die first game, and then the next followers roll you make requires something entirely different that you then have to spend money and time on, etc.

They definitely learned a lot about how to make skirmish games between then and Mordheim!

Me and Footoftape (whom you mentioned) used to throw a lot of hobby thoughts and ideas back and forth when he was still active in the 40K community. I miss that guy.

Fantastic work on everything as usual, I wish you weren't so innovative with the various bitz and kits you use.

I do like those crossbow-men, I love the archaic / feudal world vibe I'm getting from them. It's projects like these and researching the bonkersRealms of Chaos aesthetics that keep wanting me to jump back into Chaos again.. (I swear this urge happens at least every 12 - 18 months. )

Anything new planned / on the modelling / painting desk?

Mister Feral - I replied this morning but it seems to have not posted.....stupid phone.

I only had very brief contact with Foot, when he last updated his blog with the Inq28 Inquisitor. He is a very talented man. Shame he has gone into hibernation.

I don't consider these innovative but a bit of a copy. Quick and easy. Glad you got the feudal vibe from them because I like to consider them Bretonnian mercenaries.

Get back to the chaos....these words made me sad..I wanted to see your finished Tzeentchian stuff.

Thanks for the kind words!

I'm afraid this project is dead now, I've moved away from the 40K universe / aesthetic to other non-GW projects.

As for what's on my modelling table: Bits for my Mounted Champion on Winged Beast of Nurgle, Ordo Malleus Inquisitor (using something very chaotic as a base) and three Slaaneshii cultists.

Oh my eyes! It burns my rotten eyes! You twisted miniature magician.

Neil every single time you show me miniatures I am blown away. Totally brilliant collection of miniatures that are the embodiment of Tzeentch. Its a shame but according to the rules I have to hate you

The beastman are just amazing. The one with two swords is just stunning.

Really looking forward to seeing where you go with the colour scheme.

I've been building my champion today. Going so slowly because GS takes too long to dry and its bloody big. I have no idea where I'm going to keep it or how I am going to get it to warhammer world without breaking...stupid random tables

Just amazing. So evocative of adrian smiths fantastic drawings from lost and the damned. The tzaangors with the long legs are perfect! And I love the rat ogres, especially moon face. You're making me think way too much about starting a chaos war band!

Damn, those tzaangors are fantastic mate Wonderful use of bits there.

And moonface is awesome...been wanting to do a moonfaced mutie for a while, but going to have to shelf any plans for that now.....not going to beat that....

Spiky squats...errrr, chaos dwarves are pretty darn cool too.

And most intrigued by Peter's big champion now......

These are all fantastic, really just nothing to criticise at all. Well, maybe one of the dwarves should be holding his crossbow, but that's a minor thing.

The two rat ogre conversions are brilliant, love the headswaps. I also love the unusual proportions on the beastmen.

I love how the little familiar is mimicking the pose of his skaven master.

I actually think my favourite is the chaos warrior Lothar. Looks like a relatively simple conversion - at least, from what I can see - but it's really changed the feel of the model. He looks much more weighty and imposing now. Far more menacing than the stock model.

Simply sublime creations Neil, simply superb!

Would it be OK to pick your brains on some of the bitz used? The unarmoured Tzaangor legs, bodies and arms, also the brd-head for the first Tzaangor (the one with the brilliant hand-stick!).

Aye up folks..

first off , many thanks for all the comments and crits

@Johnnyhorse hope you enjoy what's left to come mate thanks

@PDH it pleases me to hear i can blow you off every now and then

the swords were a right bugger tbh, there are loads of pins in that left arm , and then i had a glue incident that obscured the detail of the hand i should of just bought a new one but i didn't want to be beaten ( read i am cheap ) i was originally going to use the same arm on each side but i kinda liked the size difference and the spiky elbow.

colour wise no solid contenders - probably not too traditional blue purple and white, but you never know - i originally wanted the beastmen to look like this

http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv215/dolorosa_photos/mywork/Vowed4s-1.jpg

but then i started researching mediaeval daemons and this struck my fancy https://gimmebar.com/view/53444023aac422e4688b4567

i do like the original painted models from the early wd that are quite vide or often muted , and i love the realism spiky rat packs chaos tzeentch dwarf - not that i can paint like Kari

http://www.coolminiornot.com/261579

really looking forward to seeing you beast and champion now mate - tarvelling with big stuff is a pain - and you still need to make your scenery yet haha

@Sheep thanks sheep , i am taking a week or two off to recover form the build and research painting styles i want to try to achieve, thanks yeah i really tried to bring the different elements together by using a few kits but that failed - so the horns became a unifying theme over all i think.- tricky really as i was trying to capture as many different aspects of tzeentch as i know of= fungoid - flame curved horns- horrors ect-- i did plan on adding a fish theme based on heironimous bosch and a serpent skaven , but just didn't have the time or patience to pull it off really -

Spoiler:

]

as for mold lines i spent a day cleaning up greenstuff and removing them after i saw my first photos- meh most have gone now , though a few still exist especially on the ridgy horns

@weirdingway thanks mate , i really wanted to capture the seductive devilish playful satyr / faun look with them - i picked up an aulos to use but never got chance unfortunately- well either that or the flaying of marsyas

https://gimmebar-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/53444388a390b.png

@Logan Cheers - yeah me too , dreading it a bit though -

@monkey Thanks monkey- yeah i like the gors too - they were touch and go for a bit tbh and a couple never made the grade greenstuff wise- i did knock up a nice companion for the fauns though -
Spoiler:

@Bruticus

hey mate , thanks for the crits buddy - yeah i couldn't pull off the crossbow thing i did try but it just didn't sit right with the rest of them - but i do like the dark elf handbow sheaths though .
rat ogres took a while to come to life - i had loads of other skaven first , but none were working for me , and i love the stock models of these ogres so i thought in for a penny and all that.. i like the irony of the bird face rat that eats rats haha so tzeentchian to me .. moon face will have a pal soon and maybe get his own little crescent moon clan in the future .

there is a bit in realm of chaos that talks about tzeentchian flames bursting into life parodying the sorcerer / flamer and i thought this was very apt , cheers

glad you like lothar he took plenty of converting - probably the most actually but i am glad he retains the feel of a heavier original here are the wips

story wise, kinda based on the clash of the princes book - http://fightingfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Clash_of_the_Princes

@ dathbod - thanks mate

@Mister feral cheers buddy, i cant take creds for hand sticks though , they are an old wargames staple - the idea probably belong to John Blanche originally though..

i really like the horror hands after seeing the link between my old school fave fighting fantasy book series sorcery and the mr blanches work on the four chaos gods especially tzeentch

https://gimmebar.com/view/534439eeaac422da678b456d/in/4ef5069a2f0aaa2e2600001c

although i was not really trying to emulate that , just to capture a modern version of pink horror arm champion

https://gimmebar.com/view/53443bffaac4221a688b4567/in/4ef5069a2f0aaa2e2600001c

as well as pay tribute to Dale hursts original tzeentchian warband bird head men back in the day

http://eldritchepistles.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/bryans-cabinets-of-chaos-5.html

edit oops I forgot to add, the bits used for the tzaangors are , goblins lotr body, blood letter legs, one arm from the ghouls kit I think and the bird head is from the empire captain griffin familiar

@nathanie1 cheers mate

@Llamahead - funny you should mention the eternal champion - i have been thinking of picking it up recently -- well one trilogy anyhow

thanks folks
