As the title says.
I'm curious what people think will be the most sought after models once they are no longer in production?
I mgiht pick up a couple to sell in a year etc.

More power to you. I wouldn't bother. I feel like even old OOP RT and 2nd edition models are easy to get at reasonable prices and below retail. So I don't expect gangers or BB teams would skyrocket in value.

It's hard to know. Some old stuff is worth money. Metal Genestealer Hybrids get pretty good money...often $5-10 apiece. Original Space Slann can go for double that. But then there are really old RT models that might only command a few bucks.
What you need to figure out is which products will have an interesting hook (and ideally be useable in games of some kind) to the target audience in a few years. If I had to do some speculating of my own, there's one line in Necromunda that I'd probably bet on, but I'll let you guess what that is.

I think Grim might be on to something. I am sure he, of all people, would be well acquainted with the going price of an earthshaker or hobgoblin khan, for instance. They certainly go for more now than they did a decade ago.
They key to oop models that sell for higher value is probably not just rarity, but use. The cd are good examples because they had definite tabletop use which was only helped by the fw book. Man o war sets seem to go for a lot more than individual ships, which might also play into this theory. So Id say starter boxes and models that translate to both the sg and main rule system well might be good starting points, so Necro and Mordhiem might have some. Id avoid Warmaster, cause I am the only living soul who actually likes it, I believe. Blood Bowl is very popular, but there may be too many other companies now to fill the void that they might not fare as well as they could have. Inquisitor had some bits people used in 40k, but wouldnt be worth the investment. I may pick up a few to paint before they go, but I doubt that would be a large market in the future. Epic and BFG might prove popular enough and unique enough to get some of the mainstays and flip them later. This all assumes future interst, and GW doesnt just replace these lines in the future. Id have to think awhile on specifics, but in theory its not too bad an idea.

@Niccolo.
Yes, I've made a fair bit in recent years from deals on ltd edition models.
I bought 36 chaos dwarf hellsmith models and on average made around 60%-100% profit on each.
Which, before anyone accuses me of massive profiteering, was me deliberately selling them at a hefty discount to ebay and all other sellers I could find. So everyone did well out of it.
I also gave away a couple as gifts/ prizes for competitions.

Too late. Sold out already. I think I got the last one (I tried for 4 but I had to back track to just one)!
Presuming they meant end of may and not end of april I'll try later in the month.
The way it's going everything over say £10 will be sold out by the end of tomorrow.

Wow! That's crazy... I didn't even think about there being a run on these things.
I was going to suggest Blood Bowl as being the one likely to be in the most demand later this year (if rumors are to be believed) but it looks like you're way ahead of me

Judging by the prices on some of the OOP FW stuff I've been trying to get: if you're want it for personal use, or even think you might want it someday, buy it now (if it isn't already gone). Prices are only going to go up, and it will get harder to find specific models, especially if they're the less-popular ones that weren't bought in mass quantities. However, if you're buying them as an investment don't bother. Once you account for ebay fees/spending your valuable time/etc you're probably not going to see much profit and there's a non-trivial risk that supply exceeds demand for the particular models you bought and you're lucky to get your money back.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I would agree that there is going to be a diminishing return on certain items in the long run, as interest in the games diminishes.
I've had what for me is a sizeable flutter on certain items... Time will tell if it was a wise investment.
A mixture of mostly BFG and Bloodbowl but also some mordheim models thrown in.
Plus a couple of inquisitors I always wanted to paint.
It was quite fun actually trying to predict what people will want.

Not sure about necromunda but the inquisitor stuff (especially the space marine ) will probably always be sought after. its a cool fig for painting to high standard for display. I will say that the inquisitor upgrade blisters are already hard to find and expensive. try and get the 54mm space marine helmet blister. I have seen it go on ebay from anywhere between 30 and 50 dollars. Im still looking for the melta upgrade pack.

Makes two of us. I was trully pissed when the only miniatures from Necromunda I wanted to eventually paint are "No Longer Available". I shouldn't have gone with the "Oh, I'll spend money to complete my army first" mentality

Arbites are a wonderfully useful thing. I've got about 25 of them, and they've stood in for player-characters, NPC's and even adversaries in one memorable session of Dark Heresy.
Fix'd.

It's all speculation. Having come into a sizable quantity of rare and OOP stuff myself recently from a guy getting out of the game, it just varies.
I've been able to do pretty well on the Games Day minis. The 2nd ed stuff, oddly, doesn't seem to sell for much.
As another anecdote, about 8 years ago plastic Epic Imperator Titans were going for about $70. Then 2 - 3 years ago for whatever reason they were selling for as much as $500!!!! Now they're back down to less than $100.
With these, who knows. It's too speculative and the potential profit is too tiny for me to be concerned with it.

If I had the spare change now I would probably buy the carnival of nurgle because it is cool and nurgle is always in demand.
A lot of the Mordheim stuff is worth buying on the merit of the sculpts, especially if you play Empire a lot of those mordheim figs are really nice and characterful.

For me it is definetly going to be the imperial titans. I happen to have downloaded the rules for Adeptus Titanicus and have been meaning to build up a few battle groups but have never had the money. Now it looks like i am doomed to never have these lovely models why GW, why? Ode for a massive wad of cash so i can swallow the bitter bile and force myself to hand GW money so i can get my Epic IG force, my BFG fleet, my Titans, Mordheim, Warmaster and Necromunda .
