They dispel trollguts every turn if they don't stop it from casting. Depending on what unit it is, they got a lot of high ward models.
I don't know how phoenix guard do against ogres, but it would be rough both ways.
HE were made for templates IMHO.

Phoenix guard get 2+ ward vs magic (4+ ward and MR2).
If you run 2 blocks of phoenix guard and a block of white lions with the banner, you've got 3 units that are pretty much immune to most magic.
Of course you could go for the core, but half of my core is going to be ambushing. I like the idea of bringing 30 archers onto a table edge, walking on and firing 30 shots (not volley fire, they can shoot in 3 ranks).
High Elves can build lists where it's very hard to get points off them.
I do like the new navy heroes. People so far have been thinking about using them to reform when flank charged. I'm thinking deploying in bus formation, and then having to swift reform into a horde once hit. Getting 40 attacks instead of 15 is a rude surprise.

Lore of Life doesn't seem like a bad choice against HE. Yes, most of the augments and RiP spells are only going to last to the end of your turn but if you spread them out between multiple units you might be able to keep one going for a full turn. More importantly the damage spells aren't fire based, Dweller eats all, and regrowth will help keep your units alive for a little longer if you can hold in combat. The only thing I haven't figured out how to deal with are the Dragons. A cannon would be most peoples' answer but as a Lizardman player, I don't get cannons.

If you cant 100% guarantee you can get dwellers, life really isnt the best option. To be honest, if youre going to kill HE's and you're using magic to do it, I'd strongly recommend a different tactic. That being said, the best magic will be the one's that can eleminate what makes them work. I've really only come across three surefire things that have a standing impact on HE's.
-Impact hits.
-Increase your WS, or decrease theirs.
-Increase your I, or decrease theirs.
Everything else is all pretty average and not worth bothering with. Don't try and kill HE's directly with magic, instead weaken them with it and use your units to mop up the gimped fairys.

They say you never appreciate what you have until it is gone. I fear that isn't true for your mind. |

Double Life is the absolute worst idea you could do. You will then have a Slann that can only use the Signature spell..which kinds sucks. Same goes for Heaven or basically any other lore. You cannot have the same spell twice in your army. Period.

Unless you have a Loremaster. Guess who can be a Loremaster?

With death its not hard to kill your slann and almost all your tg, no thanks.
Life and light is much better, your tg and saurus will just eat anything that is thrown at you or fails to run away from you

I would consider Life and Shadow. Life requires no explanation, Shadow will offer a good mix of spells the pointy ears don't get their 2++ against.
The Withering, for example, is a death sentence waiting to be carried out by a horde of skinks.
