LOL yes...I had him in a unit of termies in a planetstrike game onetime, he charged Farsight's enclave, whoever wasn't ROFLstomped ran off the board and died, and I had another priest actually kill even more figures with his unit, a ragtag band of assault marines who lost their sgt. after a bad LOS roll, they killed...geez, one or two units of broadsides....it was crazy, something like 7 units. I dunno about 100 figures, but it was definitely up there in crazy. I ended up killing 2900+ points of the enemy's cumulative 6000 point total (3 players on each team)

This discussion is why I think it's worth losing the combat squad for BA sterngards to fit in Corbs. There have been cases where this has not worked out, but I can usually find a decent target for 8 meltas. Or just not use them all. Again, though, the fragnought assistance is key because it can frag nearby infantry-based melta off the board.

Agreed, fragnoughts are pretty damn solid. Point to be made about survivability of the sternguard is that you can make room for Corbulo or even possibly a librarian as well, but if you decide to use combat squads, it can work out well and the extra points can go to rounding out the rest of your army.

Yeah, it's a bit of a conundrum. But for me, the real sweet part is that if the drops go right, you can shield of sanguinius the fragnought and the sternguard. My jumper/drop list has two shield of sanguinius libbies in it.
It really works for me because I'm trying to drop everything on one enemy flank.
Note that shackle soul is a non-trivial debuff that let's us maximize our level 1 libbies. LD 8 troops have a decent chance of failing either moving or shooting.

hmm...yeah, only thing is in my particular situation I fight a lot of MEQ and Tyranids lol, but I get what you're sellin' there about shackle soul. Naturally with that in consideration one of the bigger threats to the BA troops would be any flamer/template weapon that ignores cover (for the Sternguard of course) and thankfully that can be dealt with, although I have bad memories of Necrons. Then again though...Necrons are a nasty opponent and that's one of the less profanity-riddled statements I could make about how they are now they go down well in Purge the Alien but yeah, it's an idea. Have a backup plan of course, cause just as that is an interesting combo, the enemy, if smart, can configure so that you don't chew up too many of his precious troops on landing.
A little rear fire support is nice to consider, naturally, with such a prominent alpha strike.

Ouch Jancoran, that does sound traumatizing.
Like the time my DA friend lost Belial and a Interrogator Chapain to my friends Kharn.
What made it particularly amusing was his "Kharn is gak" comment before the H2H began.
Kharn also made some tinny saves one might add.

I won't EVER forget it Endriu Death Coy . One of those rare moments in 40K where I just literally felt like begging for a merciful end, but i couldn't because the way the mission was, it would have been UNFAIR to my opponent for ME to quit. Yeah. It was...awful...
As for Kharn... Is he not one of the most fun "SURPRISE!" units ever? He just shocks opponents with his performance. I think its largely because in my meta, you dont see him as much. Most people dont play Kharne. So when you see him its a big shock to the system.

Yes, I could not agree more, though Kharn did not enjoy my Sanguinor tapping him on the shoulder a turn later hahaha!
In another game I remember my opponent thinking Lemartes was rubbish because he was only AP4. Of course he turned his tooled up AV3 character into a pile of broken bones by forcing 5 saves on him ;-)

Lemartes is rubbish because of his pricetag, nothing else. It's a consistent problem with the BA codex in general in 6th edition.

That... also, he's only really effective when he only has 1 wound left, which is unreliable with 6th edition wound allocation.

Still, though, if he were cheap, I'd tolerate the one wound gimmick. He's not cheap. Actually, I'll tolerate lots of shenanigans on cheap models. But "cheap" is hard to find in the BA codex.

Why would you use Honour Guard to do that? Sounds more like a job for Sternguard. Honour Guard should be buffing/ boosting your infantry with your HQ if used.

Honor guard neither give out buffs nor boosts. If you want FNP a priest is cheaper. In fact you could take a librarian and a Sanguinary priest for less points and get more buff and boost out of them. Either way honor guard is not really a great unit to take when we are already pressed to squeeze every last unit that we can get at already inflated prices.
I think you would also do better with bikers. You can take three bikes, 2 special weapons, Srg weapons, and an attack bike. Probably one of the most cost efficient choices in our codex ATM.

That mentality leads to a lot of bad BA lists. We can choose the mediocre stuff out of the codex instead of the outrageously overpriced. I don't even use DC most of the time, as they are not conducive to winning the game often enought to justify them in a TAC list.

As another new Blood Angel player (first game this saturday) after playing Dark Eldar for years, I notice no mention of the Death Company... Why not? To me it seems, part of the corps fluff of the Blood Angels is the Death Company, and though they cant hold objectives, as long as you don't get crazy with weapon upgrades, they seem a pretty good self-buffing HtH unit in a Pod...
Why is it that no-one seems to play/mention them for HtH?

Because they don't score. And since they are the only really truly frightening HtH option in the troop section, they are easily neutralized by good players. A simple spoiling attack really kills their efficacy. You can also shoot them, since their defenses are no better than Bob the ASM with a SP buddy.
DC are functionally an elite that only function properly when they get to assault. I'd rather have elites that function all the time. They can not be considered troops.
That being said, I do have one list where they ride a LRC that does okay. But they are mostly a hedge against blobs and even then you need a LR to make the work really well. I find that too much goes wrong with drop pods and jump packs are out of the question.

I do like drop pod DC with boltgun a and one fist. That being said, even at 2k once you have taken what you need there are rarely enough points left or at all to add in DC. 6th favors shooing units, drop pod fragnought and drop pod Sternguard are just better in this role.

It's a real shame that such a tiny rules tweak on a USR(Furious Charge) can weaken 2 whole armies to this extent. Orks need to go at the same speed as marines in CC, and BAs need to be faster than their brothers. I really hope these two books get a new dex sooner rather than extremly later. I do realize that it won't happen for like another year for orks and another 2 probably for BAs.

Yeah, but the side AV 11 is a real issue. I suppose this build is just as valid as any of the many semi-valid BA builds.

Not a great unit, agreed. Overpriced, agreed. But even tough you're missing the point here. IF you use them there's no stupider way to do it than DP assault. (Okay, I'm exaggerating here but you get the point). If you want Alpha strike, get Sternguard. If you want priest and banner/company standard to walk with your marines and to fight with your libby, get Honour Guard. Simple as that.
