So he could be stand alone. There is a little bit of rubble under one foot that could be shaved off/worked into a new base. Not sure how easy it would be to magnetize him to swap between a game base and the decorative one. Angles for the magnets would be rough. Potentially doable though.
What if you put a metal pin the model and the magnets in the respective bases?

I’ll need to look closer when I have the diorama base more put together.
The rock he’s standing on is not wide. It might be like 2mm wide by 3. That’s a guess. To the point I’m not sure I could sink a magnet into the bottom, but would need to use the side.
But due to the angles, getting a magnet into the side of the slot he fits into on the decorative base would be hard, or require rebuilding.
Not sure about the contact for the outstretched foot.
A metal pin might be the best answer.

I would go with a pin.
The base will need suitable thickness to receive it to increase stability.
Maybe a tiny shallow magnet in the outstretched foot and a pin thru the rock.
Alternatively, a pin straight up the shaft of the staff.

Wow. It was good to catch up on a few pages.
KT is a deceptively 'accessible' game. Need a full army to play? Nope, just a handful of models.
Are the rules accessible? Also; nope. There is a lot going on and so much to remember.
But having said that, it is an enjoyable game. And once you crack your understanding of the cover rules, it becomes much easier. Repetition definitely helps, and playing a broad range of people help with it too. Focus on learning the game rules. Then your Team's rules. I don't bother learning my opponent's teams - I just ask a few key questions (Any healing? Where is your Peircing? Any additional APL? What are your 'gotcha's'?)
That Eldar model is awesome, and I've sat looking at it a few times too. I look forward to seeing what you do with it. IMO, don't pin or magnetise, the risk ofa mistake making it all go wrong is high and realistically how often are you going to bust it out on the table to play with?

The thought of how often I need to field it crossed my mind. I don’t have an actual spiritseer, which complicates things. I’ve got an old farseer with a staff (who I like and counts-as) We’ll see what happens when I get the base more built. But just “Nope!”ing out and glueing him to the base is a very real option.
So yesterday was part one of Armys on Parade, for smaller entries not on boards. Somewhere in the high 30s of entries. I think he had 18 awards to give out, evenly divided bronze/silver/gold. I got a bronze, which puts me somewhere in the bottom third of the top half. Not horrible. Today is the day for entried on boards. Mine might be lame, but I’m bringing it. Full soulblight army. Yesterday we needed to fit everything onto roughly a 8.5x11” secction. I did the Blood Hunt; Mounted vamp lord, blood knights, puppies.
Not much painting going on, as I’ve been sucked into No Man’s Sky.

Huge congrats on Bronze! That's awesome.
Best of luck with the entry on a board! And don't sell yourself short - 'lame' is not the right word to use. How many people have never made a board? I haven't had the nads to give that project a go. And neither have a lot of people. So huge props to you for having a display board for your army. Being there, a part of something, speaking with other people, having people look at your display... That's what it's about, right?

Woops, I’m a bad blogger, thought I had posted a followup. Smaller crowd on the second day, maybe 8-10ish? Only 3 spots, which I failed to get. Not a big shock. The soulblight are very solidly battleforged. Table ready, but without a lot of the stuff to get points from the judges.
Next year it might be possible to get my company of Ultras on parade. We’ll see how I’m doing on my year end report. Might be too much of a stretch.
—
So a LOT of stuff is going on preorder this week. I think I’m in for the UM combat patrol and a box of victrix. Should keep me building for a bit. Tempted by the terminator box, but too much.
—
Paint has been slow. Wights are getting their clean up passes. Seer is fully built, but not glued to his base. Kicking that call down the road. No Man’s Sky is eating my time (in a good way)
Hope everyone had a good weekend.

So those 3 got done.
Last 3 are done with basecoats, on to cleanup and washes.
Marines are plugging away slowly. Cent is ready for his blue cleanup pass. Tank is slowly getting coverage. I hate painting tanks.

Wights are done, off to be based. Cent needs his blue ink; almost there.
Marines need work. Need to move the other 3 guys down for the squad. I’d like to finish those 5 guys this month, and the 5 jump guys next month. That should do for my company goals.

So the cent is off to be based/decaled. 3 marines down and got their base blue down.
(And a lot of No Man’s Sky was played)
So, lots of stuff at the reveal show:
WQ - darkwater. Heroes look cool, but not a fan of nurgle. If that’s your jam, could be a fun box.
Maggotkin - solid dump of AoS minis for the faction. I’ve had nurgle forces in the past, but not a fan of the modern aesthetic.
Nice to see more animations incoming. I was on the fence for renewing W+ this year, glad I did.
30k stuff looks cool. I like the look of the capheracti. Unfortunately, scale creep is a thing. The volkite/mace guys would be a great fit into my hypothetical list, but I’ve got 15 old scale ones. Love the look/concept of breachers. Once I clean up my backlog a bit, they might go on the wishlist. Probably around the time of 4th edition 30k.
3 new named xenos characters. Squat looks goofy IMHO. Tau look pretty cool, but bot starting a new army. Might need that lashwhip prime. Just cool looking.
30k Skitarri/admech? Not a fan. I don’t mind the 40k guys, but these just don’t spin my cog.
LI stuff is tiny. The saturnine stuff joins the lineup, plus some new big tanks. The boxsets look like good on ramps, but I don’t need to get into another scale.
The bloated BL HH range can be condensed down into 12 curated books to tell the story? Shocked.
I guess Cathy needed a new wave of models to flesh them out? Look cool.
I’m lost on what’s going on in Necromunda. I thought it was gangs scrapping for scrap. Sure, they might be cat’s paws for other factions, but now we have ancient demigods taking over? Can’t say I like the look of any of this release, either the character or the palentines or squats.
500 worlds. End of edition campaign from the looks. Probably going to be overpriced with a short shelf life. On the plus side: Ultramarines. Love the mixed marine/human command squad. Second company though. Loosers. Might get it anyway, but I suspect the price is going to be eye watering. The psycho necron looks cool though, and a more offical word on the nightbringer. But I need to start painting what I have before picking up more murderbots.

Only 6 new Ultramarines for you to buy and paint... that's not too bad.
Especially now that you are getting close on completing the 3rd Company, it's time to start on the 2nd.

I could have passed on the UM CP, but it was a birthday treat for myself. I should have fun with it. Even if a chunk of it is redundant.
Headswaps are one of the easiest ways to make a mini you are on the fence about work.
Progress. Got the 3 marines just about caught up with the prior 2. Almost done with initial basecoats. Tank is done with it’s first blue. Started on the seer.

5 regular, one large monster.
I tend to paint in 5 man squads, so it is real nice to just be able to work down the line, and not worry about popping them off and on the handles. And it’s irritating to paint without them these days; I’m so used to them.
I’d strongly recommend them. If not GW’s (which are reasonably priced considering) another brand. So much more comfortable and ergonomic then just holding onto the bases.
I want to finish building the KT specialists before getting back to the new stuff. Saboteur is in progress right now. I can wait on the rest of the old phobos guys who will form an incursor squad. Reivers take priority for the combat patrol. I should have most everything else, or close enough to counts-as.

I'm very sad I'd sold my old GW handles when leaving hobby. This old model is the best.
Do you make all possible options for phobos team? Do you use colour designation to deffirentiate them on field? Like markings on backpacks or helmets?

I’ve never tried the new narrow ones to compare. They might feel better to the hand then my old chonky ones. But I have no plans to get more.
All my phobos KT should be WYSWYG from the special bits in the box. So the medic has the medic bits, the voxbreaker has his toys, etc. Some of them are not as clear as others. What makes the veteran special? He’s a bit more blinged out, and I plan on giving him a TWV decal. Once everyone gets paint, I should have almost all the options. The only ones I’ll be lacking is alternative guns for the reivers. I’m just going to build them all pistol/knife. I could see a use for the rifle, but it’s pretty niche. There are perks for being in a high vantage position when shooting, so the grappling hook and a quick dash to get up high, and then plinking with the carbine could be fun. But not enough to get another box. Or magazine.
There are times I do add bits to designate models/wargear. Most of my intercessors with AGLs have either a studded shoulder pad, a purity seal on their backpack, or both. From arms length looking down at the squad I was having trouble picking out the guy with the special gun, as it’s real close to a regular bolt rifle. So I went out of my way to mark them.

Lathe Biosas wrote:Just a quick question, do you paint your veterans and honor guard to match your company (red) or do you paint their trim white?
Vets get white trim, HG get gold. Mostly. Some 30k terminators have gold trim (as does most of the 30k stuff). I don’t do white helmets. Or red ones for sarges for that mater. But HG can get gold ones.
That said, command squad/company heroes are veterans who are still part of the 3rd co, so get red trim.
Also, historically, I didn’t paint shoulder trim on my models for years, for a few reasons. One, my paint scheme was set before they were invented. I was just using the paint guide in the RT SM paint kit. And the bulk of my guys were RTB01 beakies, who lacked trim. Even as things changed I kept stuck in my ways to keep things uniform. When 8th and the primaris dropped, I picked up some modern habits. Like shoulder trim and edge highlighting.
HG have a mixed history of where they are in the chapter. At one point they were scattered across the army, members found in every company. Or a separate chapter asset.
Composed of First Company veterans who demonstrate measured statecraft and peerless skill at arms, the Victrix Honour Guard serve
as bodyguards for the Chapter’s senior officers. Chosen for their selflessness in battle, the warriors of the Victrix Honour Guard will gladly lay down their lives to protect their charges.
This is where we are now. I suspect that I’ll paint them with white trim when it comes time, but probably gold helms. They will stand as the command squad for the 1st company. I prefer them as a seperate chapter asset, but can roll with this. Saves me from kitting up a different 1st co command. Although it might be fun to make a TDA one.
And that’s enough rambling for now, done with the first cup of coffee for the day. Enjoy your weekends all. Automatically Appended Next Post: So the phobos KT is almost there on the construction side.
Here are the options:
We have from the left
Veteran, helixadept, coms, marksmen, voxbreaker, sabatour.
Sergeants and the minelayer can be pulled from existing squads. As can all the warriors I could need. Reivers are next up to build.
And some painting progress:
I think the dirt on the wraithlord was a mistake. I think I’m going to snow base him. Much more forgiving to be half buried in a snow drift.
Marines getting coats down. Next up is the black wash on the grey/silvers.
Still putting basecoats on the tank. Ugh. So much hate.

I don’t have an airbrush set up. And prior to my current house, didn’t have a room with proper ventilation options. I do have space for one now, but am also a cheep bastard, and don’t want to shell out the cash. Too lazy to learn new tricks, etc. Bad excuses I know. I should get one.
As for rattlecans a few things. I’ve had bad experiences color matching in the past. Also, the way GW prices them is insane. Plus to get solid coverage you really need to lay it on thick.

Ready to reive. Well, once they get finished with the whole prime/paint/etc process. But built. Automatically Appended Next Post: So the Assault Terminators are coming out by themselves soon. Putting a box of them on my wish list. Which makes me think; what’s on there?
Space Marines:
Just did a review of the battle company. With the 5 intercessors from the UMCP that’s all the basic line troops I need. I still need the back half of the heavy intercessor squad. And coculd use more then one primaris dread. In an ideal world I’d like to get all 100 marines in tacticus armor, but that’s a long term issue. At least until we see what’s in the 11th starter.
I may need that second box of Victrix guard. They are next on my to-build list. What I think I am going to do is take the BGVs from the UMCP and splash the spare parts around. If I build all 6 at the same time, I should be able to get a pretty uniform looking squad.
The above mentioned assault termis.
Low priority are a JP captain, phobos captain, 5 more JP assaults, a basic LT that didn’t come in the 8th starter, and a counts-as ATV based on the GSC Achillies.
Deathwatch:
So this army is in stasis, and is likely to stay that way for a while. But I do kind of want the new KT.
Eldar:
Quite a bit on the covet list, but I need to clear more of the old stuff out of the pile.
New Swooping Hawks, plus PL
Asurman
Fuegan
Less need for the squad of Fire Dragons, but would not turn them away. Same with Warp Spiders.
Storm Guardians
Avatar of Khain is a capstone centerpiece. Need to get everything else wrapped up first.
Necrons:
Need to paint what I have before I buy more. At least put a dent into it. At some point I’ll probably grab the Nightbringer. And maybe the Ophidian destroyers, as they are what I think of when I think about wraiths, which I always liked. The canoptic wraiths are just too chonky.
Tyranids:
Are in a pretty good place. Might get the new lashwhip prime when he drops. I’d not turn down a box of the ravenrs. But not for KT. Not a fan of all the bio-mod extras. Need to make 2 of them out of scraps to fill out my 3 man squad.
Soulblight:
If I want to play them for real I should probably grab the endless spells and faction terrain. But as far as more minis? Pretty solid.
Nighthaunt:
The new spearhead would add nicely onto my existing collection. And I like painting the spooks.

I need to figure out what I'll be doing in the coming year myself. I'm close to having the marines I have on hand painted up.
I think I'll be done in two months. I'm unsure what to buy before 11th, so I may switch to my Forge World Krieg models.
