I might be missing something here, but i just took a peek at the ltd. ed. Eldar codex book, out of curiosity.

So the regular codex is £30.00. But for double that price you get the regular codex book PLUS... a dust jacket, and a certificate saying that only 1999 other codex books have the same dust jacket?

Have is missed something?

It apparently also has cloth ribbon bookmarks and some black edging on the pages...

I think we all know where this thread is going.

the GW Limited Editions are an absolute joke and a waste of money, we all know this...how in God's name they manage to sell 2000 of these things with every release that they do, I could never hope to tell you.

They stopped doing that, its just the dust jacket and the piece of paper saying you were one of the 2000 people stupid enough to pay $60 for a dust jacket.

The sole purpose of the limited edition codex is showing off to other players that you have the money and mindless devotion to GW to pay twice as much for the same product.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Which is already a product with a 100% increase over what it should cost.

You'll notice "printed in china" on the back of your codex, these things cost $5 or less to make.

I'd like to get a Limited Edition Codex. Eldar were my first army, so they're a little special to me, as well as the fact that it's always cool to have limited edition stuff. And, hey, it's such a pain when your codex gets all dusty.

However, I just can't justify buying it for double the price. I'd pay £5 more, maybe even a bit more, but I'm not going double on it.

They are a waste of money now and I honestly am not sure of how they sell 2000 of them, but if you ever saw the WHFB 8th ed. limited rulebook, that was actually worth double the price.

Are we sure that they stopped doing the ribon bookmarks? they are advertising it as having them on the website.

I would hate to think that they'd have the nerve to market a product as having ribon bookmarks if it didn't have them!

Obviously the value depends on the person, and some people will pay the extra for the special-ness of having a collector's item.

I, however, feel that is a 100% pure waste of money. Double the price for absolutely no benefit, considering the normal codex looks awesome anyways. I've said it in the last three threads mentioning the special edition codices; if they were 5-15$ more, they might be worth it, but double the cost is patently absurd.

Its just a way for GW to confirm that no price is too high for some of their customers.

Also, it is a little known fact that all the special edition books have an RFID chip in them that alerts the store staff when someone comes in for a game that there is a fool present ready to be separated from his money.

I was _this_ close to buying the LE codex.
But, when all you get is shiny pages and a dust-jacket, I'd prefer another 5 Dire Avengers, TYVM.

I was bitten by the 6th-ed LE rulebook, expecting more pages. The paper is nicer, but will still wear with normal use. It's sat at home waiting for a non-club game.

So, I'm not one off the 2000 people with a posh-looking book. That almost bought me all 3 new HQs.

Yes, yes, those who buy Collector's editions are mindless drones. Ever since the first release of the CSM Collector's edition every time a new Codex pops up, so does this thread.

There are people with the disposable income and who like something so much who just buy them. Because they are SHINY and collector's and rare. They like the special cool stuff that only 2000 people are able to get.

I know all about it, I'm one of these "freaks" but on different items, video games. I will happily pay the extra buck for that shiny CE box and "useless" art book and other random crap people tell me it's useless and I'm dumb to buy. It's all legal, so those who can and want and actually buy a CE Codex, well, more power to you!

Considering there is alreayd a FAQ to correct a typo means you are paying more to buy a book that was not proof-read before being sent to the printer.

Screw that.

So much hate...

I have the Tzeentch Chaos Daemons one.

It's a different cover art, dust jacket, and ribbon book mark. The cover is made of a different material, which I suppose is meant to feel like feaux leather or something. It's definitely soft to the touch.

I like it, but would only do the LE books for my favorite armies. (C:CSM, C:CD, and C:BT)

And I am the envy of my friends, but not because of my LE codex. It's because of my good looks, awesome painting abilities and the way chicks throw themselves at me. True story.

Well they do know you have money now!

I have the Khorne Daemon one and bought the Eldar one. Not because I'm stupid and think it's great value, it's not. I just wanted it and had the money. I won't be buying Dire Avengers that's for sure... because that _would_ be stupid

Well a better comparison would be if they had two Dire Avengers boxsets on sale, one with 10 models for £25 and one with 5 models for £25 but it had a red sticker on the front that said "very special, only 200 of these"

Personally I already have to spend 50$ USD on a new codex to keep updated (maybe even less if I look around and that around other stores and that), why would spend more than double for something that is almost the same add for one small thing added?

Yeah. But I feel that you're given more for the value of your purchase. The cases are usually some sort of metal or they come in a sexy, hard plastic box. They have extra disks with making of's, special features, etc. Some of them come with artbooks and strategy guides, extra maps and content. Hell, some of em even come with Statuettes for feth sake. That's value. You don't feel like someone is slapping you in the face with their member and throwing trash at you with a price tag.

That may have been a little harsh. But it seems that GW doesn't put any effort into it. They could do so much with the idea of a limited edition codex. More artwork, maybe extended fluff sections. Something other than a 30 dollar dust cover. Feels lazy and spiteful.

I'dve bought the LE one, but for the fact that I've already given GW many pennies for this release.
I ran out out money for extras quite quickly.

To be honest, I quite like the designs they have been doing for the limited edition codex covers, but I see no way to justify the huge price jump. Perhaps if it was just a pre-order bonus to get people to buy it straight away, then it would make more sense, but the huge price is ridiculous.

A lot of the previous posts have stated that the LE is just a dust cover. It isn't. I'll post again:

I'm not saying that this is worth it. I'm not saying that you're wrong for not wanting it. It's definitely a judgement call that each person should make. However, if you don't like it, at least be correct in your criticism.

It's the same cover art (unless you're genuinely counting removing the text as new cover art) and a bookmark? You're seriously claiming that as a selling point for a book that's double the price for the same content?
