Not everything is super armored, some things are simple weapons platforms. Example.

The Abrahms MBT. Purpose built to pulverize and shrug off hits.
Since it exists, and is obviously a superior fighting vehicle, why do we have anything else? Because sometimes its too unwieldy. Or too expensive. Rebel forces still weld a 50cal to the back of a Toyota sometimes. Why? Why don't they just make an Abrahms? Sometimes you don't have access to everything you might want. Sometimes you just make do. Even if its not optimal for your protection. Sometimes survivability is less of a concern than the capacity for sheer destruction.

If they put more than a cage or roll bars, I will probably not get it, unless it can somehow still maintain the homage feel. Otherwise, that would kill the homage tie for me, and that is the only reason I am even thinking of getting it.

Edit:

Totally agree with you HisDivineShadow. That, and sometimes you want manueverability with some weapon systems that would otherwise be unwieldly. Also, tactically speaking, terrain also changes how one thinks about heavy support weaponry. The Abrahms is amazing when given open ground to play on. Put it in a city, get it clogged in a street, and now it is a sitting duck. The treads are okay in a desert setting, but have it go too far out, and it will sink like a stone in soft sand.

In Chad, there was a tank hunting technique of getting two cheapo civilian Toyota pick-ups, putting guys in with anti-tank missiles and "charging" a tank from opposite directions. Since the tank could only swing its turret toward one truck, it got destroyed by the other. Tanks are a lot more expensive than Toyota pick-ups.

Bosnia, a Yugo with a British 25 pounder in it. Seen a Volkswagen bug with a 75mm pak (the short barrled WW2 US one) in it once too. The trick there is they're hard to spot until they fire, FIBUA..

Update #11 is up.

Loud'n Raging wrote:You've done it again, and pretty fast at that! The Jailbirds' Mecha has been unlocked and is now available since we passed $360,000!!!

And for those who've expressed concerns about how exposed the pilot is, I'd say a protective force field is not an entirely far-fetched idea...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But yet again, that's not all!

At $365,000, the Jailbirds' Mascot, Harry the Baby Hippo, has now been unlocked as a Freebie!

And by the way, some have you have asked if they will be able to purchase additional Freebies such as Harry the Hippo.
Indeed, we've heard that there are girlfriends, wives and daughters out there who would be happy to call Harry their own.
So the answer is Yes! Stay tuned.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's next

As you know, Irina Vega, Orbital Strike Commander for the Kurganova Shock Troops will become available at $370,000.

We saw somewhere a comment that said (I paraphrase): “It's nice to have a Commander who's actually doing something else other than shooting or yelling at troopers”.

We thought that was pretty cool to have someone notice this, as indeed, it was what we wished to communicate.

In fact, creating the poses for Officers and high-ranking Heroines is always a challenge because you want them looking dynamic while simultaneously standing firm and in control. And that severely limits the posing options...

After Irina, at $375,000, as mentioned earlier, you'll get Free Upgrades for the Jailbird Division, Kurganova and Iron Empire Artillery #1. (Details to be announced.)

And at $380,000, you'll unlock the infamous Lady von Stroheim from the Iron Empire.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who is Lady von Stroheim?

Lady Hilda von Stroheim is a military genius.
But she's also a free spirit who won't take orders from anyone.

When she was still a very young officer, she disobeyed orders many times to save her comrades from destruction and lead them to glorious victories.

Normally, she should have been dishonorably discharged from the army and thrown in jail. But the impact of her military prowess as well as her noble filiation stood in the way.
So Hilda was transferred to a fairly non-active outpost.

Instead of disappearing into oblivion, she used this as an opportunity to train the troops under her command to an elite level. She then took it upon herself to have them crash in the middle of battles without actual marching orders.

And each time, she brought unexpected triumph to the Empire.

The very strict Iron Empire hierarchy had not choice but to eventually consider her as a necessary evil and unofficially affect her to desperate missions and causes.

She is the only Iron Empire Officer without an actual rank, but with incommensurate power.
Your feedback is wanted on the Iron Empire Mascot

Now that we have Harry the Hippo as the Jailbirds' mascot, we are still debating what animal the Iron Empire mascot should be, as we somehow all disagree on this.

We've thought about an Egyptian cat, but this would make for a very tiny miniature. A hyena has also been mentioned and is currently a most-favoured option.

So, what do you think? Please tell us in the Comments section below this update.

And once again, thank you for your amazing support and your continuing word-of-mouth. And have Harry the Hippo bring you a beer or two: you deserve it!

Looks like some pretty sweet stuff. Unfortunately, I'm probably going to have to reduce my pledge, if not withdraw it altogether. (Medical emergency in the family.) Still, following this whole operation with avid interest. I'll still be picking up whatever I can, and looking to make a full Jailbirds/Kurganova army whenever the future permits!

I'll note for the sake of realism that skulls stacked like that would make a precarious pile and certainly not something that would be weight-bearing.

Unless Lady Von Stroheim weighs, like, 15 pounds or something.

And since we're talking about science fiction, there's no reason why either of these wouldn't be possible.

Sorry, dynamism of a pose is one thing and I don't have a problem with it - but the pile of skulls just doesn't seem right. Who is she? A Bloodzerker?

Haha well the trolls are cheap, so they're an option if I ever needed them on the cheap The werewolves though in cost to model aint too bad, was going to grab a couple of boxes as stand in trolls as knocking £70 for the skinwolves from forgeworld is a bit too pricey for me

Been suggested that the Iron Empire mascot could be a bear so far from people as fitting, but then I wouldn;t have thought of a hippo for the jailbirds so maybe we will be in for a surprise as the obvious route isn't taken again

Reading through this thread actually makes me ashamed to be a member of this community. Ribbing Raging Heroes because they constantly missed their deadline was a bit of fun and wasn't done in a malicious manner, but my God people... the level of complaining, bitching, whining, super-elite levels of entitlement and general ass-hattery is just appalling.

Now a lot of what Buzz Saw has said is quite correct, especially his point about the way freebies are done and how unlocks have been (mis)handled by the RH team. And, for their part, RH have made a number of mistakes and done poorly on the communications side of things, but the way some of you are going on about it it's like they shot your dog, then resurrected your dog only so they could shoot him again.

I really want most of you to withdraw your pledges and just walk away from this one, and then really think hard about your participation in future Kickstarters because they seem to bring out the absolute worst in this site.

I'm going back in the shadows now. I'll come back when this campaign is over to see the options and amend my pledge.

Isn't this exactly what I suggested people do? I know I suggested this very thing. I know I did. I got my arse bit off for doing it, too.

Still, I'm glad RH weathered the storm of derision that sent their way and made solid adjustments to their "plan". I think it's paying off, too as pledges appear to have started increasing.

+1.

And RH have adapted after a lot of feedback and after the initial madness they have been updating even more regularly which seemed to be the biggest gripe and still listening and working hard to make sure people are happy.

Given that 'the problem' was constructive criticism that never really attacked a specific user while 'the other side' did that a lot AND led to RH making some changes to the campaign, OK!

Also, is it July 7th already?!?

There really isn't any need to rehash it all over again, is there?

So, there you have it.
