im not saying its cheap im saying that when you paint it the shape of the stock will make it look sorta cheap... speaking of witch I now feel like playing army of two because of that gun stock XD.

I'm contemplating not painting the brass... though I did read somewhere once that leaving materials unpainted on an otherwise painted model looks weird because of the way we paint highlights... anyone have any thoughts on this?

Anyways, due to being stuck at work I've been unable to do any modelling, however the free wifi has allowed me to watch a few vids...

Progress...

Took one of these Dark Eldar Wyches heads:

Chopped the head off the neck, and filed a Dark Elf head (the whip-weilding femme from the War Hydra) to fit:

Which gives us:

mmm... some clean-up to do on the torso is revealed at this close range...

Made a new stock for the rail-gun, but need some help to pick the best looking one.
So it's 1:

2:

3:

and 4 is the previously posted original.
Let me know what you think!

Also been busy on the clockwork engine for the mechsuit, again, there's two to chose from:

Big cog:

Or complex cogs:

The rear piece of plastic housing the cogs will be fitted flush to the brass plate.

Again, let me know please!

And finally, just for fun, did some re-profiling and detailing on the brass blade.
This is the end result:

Thanks for looking!

Option 1 and the complex cogs for me.

Nice work.
I'm liking stock 1 and the complex cogs (good idea to use the jet pack).

The sword is brilliant. If you said it was 1:1, I'd believe you.

1 for the win definitely

The more complex cog arrangement but I would add a smaller cog on top just to finish it

The sword is unbelievably realistic especially for this scale how did you do the black on the handle

I am thinking some kind of cord or wire cover ........

Thanks Dr H - the jet pack is a far bit smaller than the Tau Broadsword engine I was contemplating originally.
- Haha - I'm actually thinking about making a 1:1 copy of Prince Nuada's sword (Hellboy II), which this mini brass one takes a lot of design cues from

- You're correct: the hilt is wrapped with a three-strand cotton, super-glued and carefully melted in place - it was a nightmare

So thanks all, it's almost unanimous for the complex cog set-up across 4 forums!

Rail-gun stock No 1 seemed most popular - and it was my choice as well, however...
I kept thinking the way it bent out of the tube would make it impossible to shoulder... so here's a 3 more mods based on No 1:

We'll call them 4:

Personally I still prefer number 1 as it has that awkward steampunk vibe to it, otherwise I would go number 6 as a second back version but I beg keep number 1 as it just looks totally right.

Now taken cord and using that at any scale would be a ball ache so doing it in this scale I bow down to you, plus I knew I recognised the design Prince Nuada's sword from Hellboy II Golden Army THAT ROCKS !!!!

Now go and make me one LOL

Loving how this model is coming along. I definitely think that the complex cogs are the way to go and I think the first and sixth rail-guns were the best. I do, however, like the most recent rendition, though I think the tubing across the top of the gun could use some more detail. It looks a tad plain, as-is.

Not to be a pain in the ass, but the feet of the mech suit look kind of big. Like she would be constantly stumbling over her own massive toes. As far as rail rifle stocks go, I like the 6th one you presented, personally. Overall the conversion looks stunning.

I think the feet are actually very fitting for the suit and the Centurions, for that matter. Such a large, heavy piece of machinery needs a large surface area on the ground if it's going to be walking on two legs, so large feet are a must. Look at the AT-ST or AT-AP from Star Wars. The feet looked a bit odd without the plating (kind of bare and unarmored; which they were!) but now they look much more fitting/appropriate.

Having been away for a week there's not been much workbench time, managed some work on the mech-suit engine this evening:

The green stuff in use here is actually Apoxie Sculpt, I acquired some recently and having never used it I thought I'd test it here because this was just gap-filling and will need sanding down, rather than true sculpting. It acts more like play dough than my usual mix of 50/50 GS and milliput.

Cheers all!

Thanks Dr H!
Must admit I was at a bit of loss as to what to add (if anything) to the engine, so I cleaned up some areas with Apoxie Sculpt and added the last of the clockworks in the legs.
So for the most part, she is done:

Additions ?:
- Cables from Rail-Gun to engine
- ][ symbol on the engine and/or the right greave
- Steampunk goggles slid up onto her forehead

Cheers all!
