Gifted speaker Sarah Palin trotted out her goods Saturday during the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference, suggesting that the Obama administration stop supplying weapons to Syrian rebels in their fight against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime and "let Allah sort it out." In case you didn't know, that's the second half of the old saying: "Kill 'em all and let God sort ’em out." Earlier this week, the White House confirmed more "direct support" to the Syrian opposition, prompting Palin to question supporting "radical Islamic countries" who are "slaughtering each other as they scream over an arbitrary red line, 'Allah Akbar.'" Palin may or may not be sharpening her tongue for her return to the Fox News Channel pulpit next Monday.

While everyone knows Palin is far from the most gifted speaker in the world, or the smartest, or the most tactful, or even has the mental qualities to be a speaker, I can't help but feel as if we're not getting the whole story here.

Either way if she did say that, yikes. I mean, I hate our government sticking its nose in other countries' business as much as the next guy, but that seems a bit harsh.

How does she keep getting elected anyway?

She isnt elected anymore, she is a public speaker, she left alaska after she was touting familiy values when her own daughter had a baby out of wedlock.

I have to say that she has a point. What is going is a terrible thing, but it really is a no win situation for the West. Once the dust settles and if the rebels have won, the Wests help will be quickly forgotten. Iran will hate the West even more, along with Hezbollah. The blood being spilt in Syria is just "another day in the office" to the people in power over there. The average citizen just wants to be left alone to get on with their lives, it's the power hungry / religious fanatics that cause the problems. The rebels will just see the West as a source of weapons and say the right things to get them. They all know that here the West we will be shocked at seeing pictures of women & children dying. If the rebels win, they will turn against each other and in the end you will end up with a religious force in power as they will know what to say to get the citizens on their side. Once in power the will become a dictatorship, they know best, our people are happy with us, those rejecting us are terrorists... and so the cycle begins again.

I wish god would sort her out.

Palin isn't part of anyone's government, she's just a TV commentator. She can say whatever she likes, as Fox News isn't bound by journalistic ethics.

It is perhaps slightly surprising for a Christian to endorse Allah so strongly, but presumably she was only trolling.

Allah =/= to the god of the Bible.



And actually, Palin's response is exactly what we should do. Let them sort it out themselves. Why should we fight them when they're doing a smashing job of killing each other. Especially when neither side is a palatable ally.

So Palin is echoing one of the thread we have going on here where some of us is saying the basically the same thing?

It is the same god, just with a different messenger. Hence they form part of the Abrahamic religions. Because, you know, it is the same god.

However, this is off topic. Personally I don't think that weapons etc should be supplied but humanitarian aid in terms of provision of safe zones, medical care, food, shelter etc should be given.

But Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all believe in the same god. The difference is the subject of the Messiah. Christians think it was Jesus. Muslims think Jesus was a very good prophet, but believe Mohammad was the true messiah. The Jews believe neither are the messiah and he has yet to appear. That is the main difference between the 3 religions.

Saying they believe in different gods is crazy. They even share religious texts and religious figures. Saying "let Allah sort them out" isn't really different from saying "let God sort them out", it just implies the Islamic tendencies of the groups fighting over there.

With Christianity, anyone who isn't worshiping God has been led astray by the devil. Who likes to use false religion to lead people away. So any sort of false religion can't be worshiping the same god. They may think they are, and people from a 3rd viewpoint may say they are, but only from that viewpoint.

Couldn't they be worshiping the right god and just be using the wrong practices?

That's funny, because from where I'm standing, the Salafist movement and its ilk which swept through Islam back in the '50s, and which is still the leading cause of our problems in the region so far as Islam is concerned, is all but identical to the Revivalist movement (the people who coined the term "fundamentalist" to paint their new, often heretical ideals as a "return to the fundamentals") that swept through the US in '20s, and which is still the leading cause of problems in the US so far as Christianity is concerned.

I mean, I don't much like what either replaced (though I tend to look favorably on Islam in a historical context), but both are measurably worse, in basically the same ways. The only difference is in the US, the radicals are increasingly marginalized and solidly losing ground, or at least being forced gradually towards more moderate positions. We've seen some cultural backlash within Islam against the radical sects, but overall they're proving rather savvy when it comes to indoctrinating the youth, just as their Christian counterparts were until the past few decades.


And just for reference: the word "Allah" is grammatically identical to the Christian practice of capitalizing the 'g' in "god" ("lah" being "deity/god" and "al" being the definite prefix (think the word "the")).

Actually, minor quibble (well, it's probably not minor to a Muslim, but I'm not a Muslim), Muslims don't believe that Mohammad was the messiah, simply that he was God's final messenger (the "Seal of the Prophets") and that he delivered God's true message, as the Torah and Bible had been corrupted over the centuries, so Mohammad had to put them back on track. This is also why they (theoretically) tolerate Jews and Christians, but not Baha'is since Baha'is, while believing the Abrahamic God, believe in a prophet after Muhammad (bahaullah). The messiah in Islamic theology (or whatever the correct term is) is called "The Madhi", and depending on which brand of Islam one subscribes to, he either hasn't shown up yet or he was the 12th (or 7th, maybe) Imam after Muhammad and is in occultation waiting for the end of the world. Jesus fits in somewhere, too, I think he's, like, the Madhi's partner or something in Islamic theology (IE he comes back, the Madhi shows up and they partner up to fight crime- I mean, the false Messiah).

Because Christianity isn't Islam.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the same God that the three abrahamic faiths worship, that much is true.

But YHWH, God, and Allah are also three different approaches and interpretations of the same person. Those interpretations and how people approach Him are the differences and why they are not the same.

I am different now in my 30s than I was in my 20s and in my early teens. I am still the same being, but now the same person.

(Not saying that God has changed in 3000+ years, just that people's interpretations change)

If you are a Christian you believe Christ is part of the one Godhood -- the Trinity. If you are Islamic you don't.
