So, I'm looking for a sandbox-y sort of game to waste hours on over the summer, and I decided Red Dead Redemption looked good for my tastes - I prefer the original game to the undead one, but I now have a question - Should I get the GOTY edition, for £5 extra plus P&P, via the internet, or the "normal edition" for £10 in town?

From what I understand, the GOTY edition contains the "Undead nightmare" game/DLC as well, so it's basically 2 games for the price of 1, is that right?

Any clarification and advice much appreciated!

Correct. If you don't have any, get the GOTY.

Thanks for the prompt reply - I am ordering the GOTY edition as we speak - Thanks!

Have fun with it. I am currently playing it myself and it's an outright masterpiece...the dialogues alone are top-notch.

Yup, go with the GOTY edition for sure. I'm also not a huge zombie fan, but it was a decent expansion. If I remember, it added about 7-8 hours of gameplay.

I've played that game about 4-5 times now...never gets old! Seriously, some of the most memorable characters from any game I've played.

I've recently started playing the main story again, I absolutely love it. Such a fantastic story, with brilliantly done characters.

I was never really a fan of Undead Nightmare, played it a little but never completed it... I might give it another try at some point...

I played a bit of Undead Nightmare, but it was quite hard. Surest way to kill the Zombies was with a hatchet in close combat. Unfortunately you get mobbed pretty quickly.

The main game is incredible though. And the game has an amazing auto-aim system that takes the frustration out of aiming with an analogue stick.

Great game, great experience, this is how a proper western game should be done.

Ye, I also love the auto-aim - just point at the general direction, move the crosshair up a bit just after pressing the trigger, guaranteed headshot

I'm not very far in yet, just got to Mexico. Is there any way to see a horse's stat? I currently ride the one you get from Bonnie's quest (the brown stallion) but I saw that you can buy some at the general store. Any idea if that's worth it? 750$ sure is a lot.

The only thing I really did not like yet is the whole "Get some help to assault the Fort!" quests...I mean, I can easily run gun-blazing in a group of enemies but need a gatling gun, an armored carriage, a mad graverobber and a drunk just to get in the fort? I'd just ask Williamson to come out, Dead Eye and he'd be dead. Didn't seem really sensible to me, but again, the dialogs...man. The writing is so awesome...I am deeply impressed by the voices, the text etc. And the sound! I play the game on our living room sound system and riding your horse with your subwoofer providing a deep, bass-heavy BADOMP BADOMP BADOMP is...wow. Amazing game.

...and please, don't confirm or deny, but either Bonnie or John's family is going to die -__________- '' I hate you Rockstar :(

I love Bonnie, very good character. Seems vulnerable at first, but has some balls and deals with stuff the way she wants it to be dealt with. And Marston himself is so AWESOME. He isn't what you expect aka your Clint Eastwood-ish guy, he seems...well....deep. I could go on for hours. I was never interested in Western, not even as a child, but this game is a true masterpiece. It's art.

Agreed with everything good people have posted about this game.

I resisted getting it because of the setting.
Stupid me.

Bloody amazing work of art.

At the start of the third act an alien invasion kills everyone except for John and that grave-robber. From that moment the whole game changes into a quasi-RTS-meets-rhythm game. Pretty interesting stuff.

Honestly, the Palomino (I can't remember what it's called in game) you wrangle is one of the three fastest horses in the game. I kept it for the rest of the game.

Have you had any awesome encounters with mountain lions yet? Haha, I couldn't tell you how many times those sneaky donkey-caves have killed my horses.

I fething hate those things...

Heeeeeck yes. After I unlocked/found the semi-auto shotgun, that's all I used. Especially when exploring/goofing off where those little gakkers like to hide.

Whatever you do do not let it download any patches! If you let the game download patches you will not be able to do the homing missile glitch (locks onto birds with molotovs and watch them fly at them at alarmingly fast and hilariously accurate speeds)

It can, and it sucks...

It doubly sucks when you're ambushed, dismount and accidentally shoot your own horse in the head when attempting to return fire

I played this game a little recently, one thing that really stood out is that the game is absolutely stunning visually.

The way it plays however is pretty floaty and annoying. Although Marston has a satisfying amount of weight the controls are simply too unresponsive. Also the cover is completely unreliable. The way the enemies react to your bullets is very satisfying but you can never enjoy it because like gta 4, if you aren't lining up those (curiously unsatisfying) headshots every single time you're toast. I think the game would have benefited greatly from some kind of uncharted style cqc when the enemies get close. Oh i forgot to mention that i was reminded how you need 3 hands to shoot while on horseback.

Interesting. I got the exact opposite impression...I think the game is way too easy. I basically run up to the enemies, get behind cover and then rely on auto-aiming. Duck in cover, L2, R2, L2, R2, L2, R2...if it gets REALLY dangerous or confusing, hit Dead Eye.

Woah there mister! I wasnt saying the game was hard, i was saying that the most rewarding way to play the game was hard. I can sit behind cover use a split second of deadeye for a headshot and clear out the bad guys in no-time. However i can't disarm every guy and leave them all hogtied like i want, or even leave them all wounded like i try to. The game just doesn't give you tight enough control.

Ahhh, sorry, got you completely wrong there.

To be fair, I kinda consider combat to almost be a filler between the awesome story and dialogs

Nah, I feel like the game let me down in the fact that the character I had grown attached to had been gunned down like a punk-ass bandit, and then I was left with his whiny kid who would say gak like, "Just like you taught me pa!" fething bull!

Just a note - FETHING MAJOR SPOILERS THERE! Don't open those spoiler tags if you haven't finished the game...

Kind of agree with Alf though, it kinda annoyed me, but I I loved the very last mission, a real sense of completion there...
