Hey y'all

I've used my Death Guard conversion (forge world) kitted marines as Plague Marines since 5th edition and no-one has ever had anything against it. However, in a game where me and my opponent agreed to use our competitive lists, he blasted me for using them as Plague Marines.

How do you guys feel about someone using Death Guard conversion kits as Plague Marines?

Is it ok in friendly and competitive play or is it a no-go in tournaments?

I'm curious as to what others think about this.

Do you mean the Death Guard conversion set from Forgeworld? Like, the set where they're all obviously Plague Marines, with distended bellies, exposed wounds, and decaying armor? That's like asking "How do you guys feel about someone using a Leman Russ Battle Tank and a Leman Russ Battle Tank?" in its obviousness. They're Forgeworld models, which makes them official GW models. They're obviously Plague Marines. The guy you were playing against is overly petty, stupid, or blind.

Geez, he sounds strict. Hell, I wonder if he would let me play my DA veterans converted into Plague "monk" Marines?

My vote? petty, stupid, AND blind.

He argued that they were still normal Chaos Marines from the Death Guard legion but said the kits were for cosmetic purposes and didn't change the models to 'plague marines'. After investing a lot of time and money into things like conversion kits and other nurgle conversion, my anger levels with him were off the charts. He doesn't carry the best reputation at the store.

huh I'm confused..... deathguard are plague marines.... they are just the original from 10k years before.

However, not all plague marines are deathguard as PMs can be marines who were recently converted to nurgle in a renegade chapter.

Forgeworld made those conversion kits to be used with the plague marine rules for codex CSM.

That is basically like saying you can't use those marines with MKIV armour because the box shows tactical squads with MKVII.

WAAC players are annoying when they try to bend legit rules... WAAC players are even more annoying when they make stuff up and are completely wrong.

Not all Plague Marines are Death Guard, but all Death Guard are Plague Marines. This is in the fluff. The guy you were playing against was a tool, and you shouldn't play with him again if he's like this regularly. If you were playing against people who were even the tiniest bit reasonable, this thread's initial question would never have had to be brought up.

This is a non-argument. He obviously cannot handle the art of (official!) conversion or was unhappy of his chances with what was fielded.

You allocated the points. You spent the money on fine looking models (rule of cool). Poor manners when someone obviously put a bit of love into the models they fielded (you do mail order? very patient). They look like they should.

The "acid test" of the game is "WYSIWYG".
Plague Marines = Rotting space marines. Seems OK.

State "What is it about them that is confusing you?"
If he lipped off more I would state "You are not worth my time." and pack up.

Think what playing a game with him would be like <<shudder>> no no nuh no no na no.

I, personally, would have said a number of things to this bozo. What does the store owner think of your stuff? Other players?

Anyone that says you can't use these as your Plague Marines is a person that I would NEVER play again. Also, my reply to him would have brought into question his heritage, his dating habits, and his mother's alleged occupation.

Kronk - they are the kits and I've used them as Plauge marines against the store owner before and he loved them and no-one else minds.

I never played against him before in 1 v 1 games, and I never will again. I never encountered this with my Death Guard before but after he brought up the point, I was curious of how other players viewed them which worried me a bit for when I want to play tournaments or competitively. But the good people of Dakka have put my mind at ease, thank-you

I think they make excellent Plague Marines and I can't understand a complaint against them.

yes, they are plague marines. I think using them as normal CSM would be more confusing.

Everything would have to be wysiwyg including the number of grenades on belts. If the game goes for 5 turns he had better have 5 grenades on each belt of each guy with grenades.

If the game for 6 turns there had better be 6. But if the game goes for 5 turns and he has 6 grenades on his belts he loses.

Death Guard = Plague Marines. It is the same thing. Using them as normal chaos marines is possible though. I use the Forge World guys as well

T he Death Guard are one of the Traitor Legions of Chaos Space Marines.
They worship and devote themselves exclusively to the Chaos God Nurgle and as a result of his mutational "gifts" they have become Plague Marines.

Totally stupid. That's like saying I can't use http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Imperial_Guard_Tanks/VANQUISHER-STYGIES-VIII-COMPLETE-KIT_.html as a Codex Vanquisher since it's a Forge World model and should use the IA rules.

That's insane. I'd love to see this guy's reaction to my Death Guard army - mixed 2nd Ed plastic, 2nd Ed metal, 3rd Ed metal and Forge World Death Guard!
