Furious Fire Dragon

Peterborough, England.

This post is to see what people feel are the best units for a codex to get a view on what single unit people think makes the greatest impact in making an army competitive. For example I'll start off.

I believe Wraiths are the best unit in the Necron codex because they soak up fire power incredibly when teamed up with a destroyer lord, without them, the lord would not see much play

Morphing Obliterator

Best units in the new eldar codex (imo, I have only played 2 games with it so far)

Wraithguard (cannons or d scythes, they are both great)

Spirit seers (T6 troops, yes please!)

Guardians (cheap and nasty with bs 4 and bladestorm)

Warp Spiders (fast movement and monofilament)

Fire Prisms (very flexible with different fire modes)

Wave Serpents (great transport for shooty units with decent weapon loadouts, especially good with scatter laser, shuriken cannon and serpent shield)

Chaos Space Marines - Iron Warriors & Night Lords 7900pts

Codex: Space Marines: Assault terminators

They're terminators with ap3 shread CCWs, yeah big deal, but the real icing on the cake is the FREE upgrade to a 3++ & S8 AP2. These guys are really tough to kill, can (and will) just about everything in CC, even Land Raiders aren't safe. They also work good as a fire magnet, since they can take lots and lots of fire, keeping your other units safe.

Crisis suits - so many people are distracted by the new shiny stuff, but this classic unit can stay out of harms way long enough to deliver several turns of excellent firepower.

Personally i think Sternguard are the best unit in C:SM. Special ammo makes them quite versatile, cheap combi-weapons make them able to take out anyone/thing.

There is only the Emperor! He is our shield and protector.

Helldrakes, they make most lists competitive. You just run fluffy units besides them that might not be very good, but the helldrake is so good it makes up for it.

Sorry for my spelling. I'm not a native speaker and a dyslexic.

As much as I love my Venerable Dread and Rune Priest, I'd have to say Grey Hunters for SW. They carry bolters, pistols, CCW's, and get to counter attack into CC. They're very versatile for their points.

Here's to me in my sober mood,
When I ramble, sit, and think.
Here's to me in my drunken mood,
When I gamble, sin, and drink.
And when my days are over,
And from this world I pass,
I hope they bury me upside down,
So the world can kiss my ass!

Eldar - Wraithknight. It's brutal, hard to kill and super mobile. If I didn't play a pure Wraith army, though, I'd probably say Warp Spiders.

Dark Eldar - I know no one will agree with me, but Hellions. Handled properly, there are few situations they can't handle. They can punch through most tanks, put out a lot of shots, and are pretty good in assault. Just keep them away from assaulting low AP units. One power lance isn't going to help too much.

Guard - Leman Russ. I don't think I need to say more here.

Orks - The standard boy, be it shoota or slugga variety. Cheap, powerful, and I can field 150 with some grots to kick around and plenty of walkers to spare.

Hive guard - Nothing gets a cover save, plain and simple.
I hate people hiding in cover all games

Stealers (normal and ymgarl) - Simply because they have allways been great shock troops.

Fexs - Not soo much now i guess, but dakka fex's have allways been good fun and allways do enough damage to be worth it for me.
Not to mention that fex's still look great

Lone Wolf Sentinel Pilot

Serving with the 197th

Conscripts with Send in the Next Wave.

Simply because when you kill this unit, it comes back. You never really get rid of it, no matter how hard you try. Even when there is like one of two left, I can still destroy the unit in my own turn in order to get them back the next turn.

The size of the unit itself is also a big advantage (usually between 20 and 30), because even when there are just '20', it still takes time and firepower in order to get them away, which means your other, more valuable units will stay alive.

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure.

What would you say to a terminator heavy BT list? two ranged Termie squads with two CMLs each and two assault termie squads either deepstriking or a larger squad in a LR Crusader?

I'll agree to this. With Tau, the Riptide has taken a huge role simply due to it's resilience to S8 weapons which have always been the go to answer for Tau. Crisis suits have always been the standard for me and are the most easily customized and versatile units in the codex. The Farsight bomb is kind of the best example of this. You bring two HQs to make Crisis suits ALOT better and just let them go to town.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."
