Be it out-dated, current, 5 years old or brand new, what is YOUR codex?

The one you know in and out, played the crap out of and read and then re-read every detail because you just loved that version of THAT army so much?

For me it was the old Tau codex.

Thing were so over-priced and 40% of the units were just unplayable.

But the cool parts of the army were still there, Twin-linked Deathrain suits were a must have, strng 10 ap1 broadsides EVERYWHERE.

Stealth Team Drone Spam Cheesiness was great, and of course hammerheads ruled.

I loved the codex, layout was simple. Easy to navigate. There weren't MANY rules up in the air that needed an FAQ. The markerlight+multi-tracker thing got cleared up eventually.

It was such a great challenge, to pull an army out of a 5 year old book and do well. I loved it.

New book is ok too, but I miss my broadsides.

What is your codex of choice?

hey what time is it?

Both the current Ork codex, and the prior Ork books.

Because Orks.

Not that they don't have their annoying bits, but generally they are awesome.

The current dex is out dated, current and more than 5 years old (i think... about that length of time ), so 3 out of 4...

They are fun to play, have cool fluff, and the ability to be normal, bikes, or termis just adds to the fun.

The CSM 3.5E codex and the current IG codex have some feels from me, despite their multitude of flaws. That said, my current "fave" is actually IA12, the Assault Brigade list, though having its flaws (lol 75pt chimeras) is fun.

The IG codex before the current one (3.5 I believe). Certainly not the most powerful codex ever, it had so much flavor packed into it. I think I've read it over a hundred times, I liked it that much. The doctrines were cool too, you could make whole different armies by changing a few doctrines around. I enjoyed the art as well. Full color pages for the fluff and painting section, and that sweet picture of an entire regiments worth of models. (Certainly photoshopped but for a 12 year old kid it was the coolest thing ever.)

We're watching you... scum.

I've never known a codex as well as the 3.5 edition Space Marine codex. I played that thing every week, about 3-4 games a week. I knew every unit and weapons stats from memory, and I'd read and reread the fluff more often than is probably healthy.

Though I chalk that up to the enthusiasm and energy of youth. I don't have it in me anymore to know a book that well anymore.

Tau for sure, especially the last codex. The last codex was great even though dated almost right after it was released. I knew it SO well and won SO much with those dudes that it got to the point where people asked me to play something different. So I played Sisters of Battle. Lol. I'd say they are a VERY close second on that list. the difference in my knowledge of how to play them well really isn't far apart.
