Black Templar rock. They get shot, they rush the enemy in anger. Their vows make them better and harder hitting in a fight. And they wear tabards and go against the grain. At least they aren't smelly, long haired werewolf wannabes. Anyone that's a fan of Space Wolves should read A Thousand Sons. If you still have appreciation for the arrogant, backstabbing rejects from a pet-smart, you can't be saved.

In case is wasn't clear, Space Wolves suck. The fact they're #1 in this poll leaves me brain damaged.

I concur! Too bad their legs got shot off crunch-wise in 6th Ed.
But when we stay in the fluff, that's why I started my 40K gaming with them: exceptionally xeno-hating and righteously angry crusaders who get angrier when they see their brothers getting shot at. Their heroes are remarkable, the armoury is ancient and revered by many chapters, and they are the only chapter that continues the Emperor's work: crusading to return the mankind's lost colonies back to their owner. Their volcabulary lacks the terms "surrender", "retreat", "remorse", and "rest", fighting till either galaxy belongs to the Emperor, or death meets them. AND they technically have a legal right to have a MUCH higher chapter strength than the Codex Astartes mandates - the other being the Space Wolves.

Seconded.

Ultramarines.

Ultramarines are the classic, pure Space Marines. They are like an original mint-condition no-frills muscle car.

Other chapters, in contrast, are more akin to once beautiful muscle car tarnished with added japanese plastic spoilers or flames brushed on. Space Marines and (!) Viking. Space Marines and (!) Crusader Knights, etc.. . As if adding more crap on top would make it cooler. It doesn't.

They're the Chapter people love to hate.

Out of the ones in the poll, Raven Guard (though it's more like a tie between them, Iron Hands, and Salamanders)

mmmm to come from the Raven Guard gene seed.

I know, when it comes to Loyalists, They're the most appealing to me... and perhaps the most reasonable.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Mentor Legion.

Advanced tech, adaptive military doctrines, stripped away ritual and dogma, knowledge gathering, intelligent, integrated operations with any and all other Imperium forces.

They're smart, they teach the rest of the imperium to stave off it's decline, they test new weaponry and adapt tactics to situation. They are the closest thing the Marines have to a modern, proactive/reactive military. They aren't mired down in ancient mumbo-jumbo and they aren't the massive jerks that the Minotaurs are... (although I quite like them as well).

Far less 'warrior monks' and far more 'elite supersoldiers'.

Oh and their color scheme is great. (also, owls, not bloody eagle heads!)

I did the same. I started Raven Guard (near 3000 pts and waiting for the new codex to update everything) with Korvydae, built Raptors (2000 pts) and the Carcharodons (1000 pts for zone mortalis). I hope a codex for this big family.

Mine is the Raven Guard but I am playing Dark Angels because I dont want to pain that much black.

I may actually remove some of the symbols but paint my Dark Angels as Raptors.

I've always liked Astral Swords, Raven Guard, Mentors, BA, and Black Templar.... but if there is one loyalist chapter I like above all... it has to be Salamanders.

But seriously, if this crowd is a legitimate sample population of the 40k community, then if GW was doing market research to decide what army to release next, they should have similar results. Although to be honest, this sample is pretty small, and I'm sure GW has been working in this in grander scale and for much longer. After all, market research is a valuable part of the business strategy.

Lol why hate SW? Yes i agree,.. i liked them less for a while after reading a thousand sons... From the sons standards the SW's seem Harsh, stubborn and fanatical lapdogs.. but hey,.. Look at it like this,..

The thousand sons disobeyed the Emperor... they kept practicing magic/warpstuff even after it was forbidden.. True,.. i wouldnt stop either... but if they kept going they would eventualy fall to the lure of chaos... which did happen you know.. Just be glad the SW killed most of em or the traitor legions would have a waaaaay bigger force Maybe terra would have fallen then....

SW do come second on my most awesome chapter list

I think every space marine chapter has their flaws. That's what makes them interesting.

Except grey knights. they are the flawless chapter out there and as such are one of the most boring.

Even superman, the most perfect superhero had kryptonite and his sense of naivety.

Salamanders - but you need an 'others' option because I would have said invaders.

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!
