Sorry for the lack of comments lately magos

Anyways

Ha,rivets with even tinier detail on them

I imagine that would be a royal pain to do for the whole tank but it does help the tank look overall better.

I have been toying about with the idea of 3 10men sternie squad w/combi weapons with Pedro, chappie and a librarian with null zone and done shield all in drop pod

Howdy all!!

Again... slow progress.... work is again getting between me and my Macharius!! who needs a job anyway!!

Just a quick verbal update..... i am going back and ammending the tracks as in the end the guilt of making the mistake and not rectifying it was haunting my dreams! so my aim is tonight, to have both track units again finnished and add the sponson to the far side.

After that i have a little bit of work to do to the front lower section of the hull and the underside...

Senortaco.... you are correct... those little rivets are an absolute pain to work with..... i only cut 2 out ot have a look at and immediately dropped them on the floor!!

but i aim to get the turret done as i think the effort will be really worth it!

Also this weekend i am going out to get some nice sprays for the rusted undercoat and some paints for the camo job. I have seen a couple of amazing worn and weathering techniques on this site and hope to replecate something like a mid campaign worn battle tank! will ofcourse experiement with some old pieces of armur plate and card to find a technique thats going to work!

needless to say i am itching to get out of the office today and back to work!! haha!

Updates later....

cheers guys....

Hey all!

FINALLY.... the beast is tracked!! As you will see from the first pics... I had a bit of an issue taking off the erroneous tracks and actually there were a couple on the right side that would have taken the whole unit apart! so they are to be left as running repairs and damaged track units sustained in battle!

Having the tracks added has really added some bulk to the whole tank, there is a real feeling of mass there now! i have to admit... i am very happy with the way it is going!

The rivets I bought are proving VERY problematic! Maybe a bit to adventurous for a first timer!! haha! But atleast i have them here for when i feel more confident with them.

Last point before pics.... i have an order sitting ready to go to Blood and Skulls... one engine unit... Double Widow Maker Canon.... and a large Turret mounting Plate! Really think they will add a huge amount to the tank! The parts themselves look of real quality so i cant wait to get the order through. I think the widow makers simple barrel design will really compliment the tank.

I would love to hear your thoughts! Also, getting some primer and colours this weekend to begin testing the camo and weathering technique.....

Cheers guys...

Thanks guys!! Really awesome to get some feedback!

Next up tonight is going to be finishing of the detailing on the hull... Lower section and the jointing between the hull and track units! Going to try and use the Land Raider Spot lights somehwere also. But not going to locate them in the typical spot...... i always thought it looks like the front stubber gunner would just shoot through the spot lights........

so going to get a little creative with them and find another spot..... however i will post pics as i dont want the hull to look to busy...... am going for a kind of mid campaign tank so nothing to busy and not covered with components just because i have them.......

Thanks again guys! Really means a lot!

Hey All.......

Batoning down the hatches and preparing to repel boarders!!

Thanks all for the great comments! Really spurring me on!

Full day in the office today so i started wondering about the paint scheme i am going to implement on the Mach. I am Still pretty keen on a Vraks theme.... chem wastes / urban camo and grey dusty colours highlighted with some orange Chem rust and a lot of battle weathering...... Really want to inject some real personality into this..... but... not getting ahead of myself i have never painted (or built) one of these models since i was about 5...... a freakishly long time ago!!!

Anyway, i have had a little look back at my 3D model and had a couple of goes with Camo.

Any thoughts on which is a prefered option??

I have also had my nose deep in some tutorials about salt weathering and other tasty looking effects!

I have added some of the images down below..... please note that i found the camo paterns online... so all rights to the original creaters.......

Getting ahead of myself a little i know.... still got to finnish the main tank and also get it primed! This weekend!!!

Oh...... Also.... in my already busy head..... i am REALLY concidering adding a Vulkan Turret.......

Well, I'm all over Urban Camos usually, but in this case I think B. Does depend on where you see your IG going, though.

Hey all!

inmygravenimage thanks for the feedback mate! I am definetly going to go with a traditional camo pattern.... but thinking of urban colourings.... if that makes any sense.. i want a nicely weathered and rusted look to parts of the tank and so a greyish urban colour i think would set off the oranges and reds of the rust really well...... but its all still up in the air at the momment.

Didnt get a huge amount of time tonight to do anything.... but i did manage to have a look at the engine covers and mountings at the back end of the tank.... an area that up until now has been a bit forgotten about! I have added pics of this... Not 100% sold on the hatched cover..... but i think it will do the trick..... maybe in the future a little bit of scale mesh might replace it.......

As always.... comments and critique are always welcome!!

Cheers all,

Thanks guys!
DiDDe i think i agree with you!

Stuck at work again and my brain is ticking over.... Decided i am going to start with a "Halfords" Grey Primer... then start to build from there!

Still got a little bit of time as payday and my order to Blood & Skulls isnt untill next week.... so depending on postage and pachaging.... might still be a couple of weeks.... but thats pleanty of time for me to 100% nail the details......

Still swithering about riveting this....... I have ordered one of the revolving adjustable size leather hole punch things from ebay.... £2.55 so thought i would give it a go.... if i can get nice flat circles at a small enough size i might take it on!

Whats the thoughts? I think actually the lines are looking prety clean just now and actually looks just like flat armour plate..... might Rivets be a little too much..... ???

Use the rivets. It will really make your tank much better than without

Rivet it! Rivet it now!

I used a hole punch for larger circles; erithromycin swears by them for rivets. At the end of the day, it's part of the grimdark aesthetic.

Well.... that was pretty resounding!!

And seeing as i am going to have the time for it...... I will state here and now.... that the Mach will indeed be rivetted to the MAX!!! (all being well with my new hole punch)

inmygravenimage I have tried using a regular hole punch on the plasticard.... and find it bends it horribly in the middle..... perhaps i should look to use just regular card?

And i agree.... I LOVE the look of WW1 Tanks and the whole riveting aesthetic of 40K and the Macharius in particular was what has drawn me to do this model! Done deal!

Riveted she shall be!!

Just very Randomly.... on the subject of he/she tanks and names etc...... how about

Beautiful build so far. I've following, but hadn't commented yet as couldnt“ find anything to add to an excellent work.

Do add the rivets, they go great with the aesthetics of the tank and provide great detail to work the paint effects - rust and weathering especially - around.

I've found the revolving leather punch a very useful tool for mass producing large numbers of even rivets, hope it works out for you as well.

As for the paint, I'd go with option A + C, a weathered and battle-damaged urban camo look.

Keep it coming

Would love some feedback on it! IMHO am really loving it!

Glad you went with the rivets

Just a thought, though: those rivets in the turret might look a bit too big? What size are they really (I might be judging sizes wrong anyway from the pics). For me, between .8 and 1.5 mm roundlets do the trick. My two cents anyway, it is your build and looks great anyway.

Cheers.

Hey Littletower You are right i think... when i first put them onto the turret i thought i had made a bit of a mistake ... but as i look at it more and got the upper hull rivetted i think it is actually looking good! The size is the smallest setting on my hole punch.... around 3mm i think.... I realise that at a scale of 1/50 this is going to be 150mm.... but feel it really adds a bit of texture!

Like i mentioned i have rivetted the upper hull now...... slow going as am not getting much time.... but as always would appreciate any comments..... positive or negative....... after all this is my first go so i will learn (and have been learning) every step!

cheers guys!!

You've done a helluva great job on scratch building this beast! Keep up the great work As for your rivets and the time constraints, I would suggest using cup cake sprinkles (The ball form). That's what I use on my stuff when I want to show a nice round head rivet. I just mark out my rivet spacing, use my dremel with a small drill bit to make a shallow hole, drop a bit of super glue in the hole and stick a ball in. Whaola! Round head rivets... May work out for you? Give it a try, b/c for 99c for a container you can't beat it.
