Color Warz : Dark Threat
Update #108 · Sep 3, 2013 · 1 comment

"Hello everyone, Next week, we will launch our second Kickstarter campaign called : Color Warz : Dark Threat in partnership with the French company: FLUO Games.

This new project will takes place in the world Color Warz universe (see the publisher website http://www.fluogames.com/en) and will be an asymmetric board game for two players. You can choose between the hordes of the Wooden King and black paint or Gaia allies and white magic. We will also propose to you a series of finely sculpted resin miniatures compatible with the game.

They will be sculpted by the famous french publisher : Ammon Miniatures (http://ammon-miniatures.com/). Of course, we also have prepared some exclusive contents for Kickstarter as the Black Devil Pig (see attached file). We expect many of you next week to take advantage of the best deals of the Color Warz campaign: Dark Threat!

I dont want to be an a**hole, but maybe closing the first one or making sure we clearly know when the first batch will be sent is a priority and a good benefitial factor on your second kickstarter.

Game looks cool but the name might have racist connotations to the overly sensitive (not me).

Really?

I wasn't even thinking about anything close to that when I first read it.

And honestly, I'm not seeing it now either.

Somebody absolutely will kick up a stink about it being racist, as there are a lot of people out there who are professional offense-takers. No offense to the professional offense-taking community.

Their estimated delivery listed in the rewards for Heroes of Normandie is September, but I'm guessing that's no longer the case due to stretch goals, etc? It would be really good if KS would allow additional text to be added regarding stretch goal timeframes to these, as they always seem to be wrong by many months...

Anyway, the point is in the OP so it doesn't need to be beaten to death, just thought I'd copy their comment regarding fulfillment of their current campaign

What's going on ?
Update #98 · Jul 5, 2013 · 32 comments

Victim of our success and because we were very generous (yes, we were ! We don't regret anything and it was a part of our success) and enthusiastic, we added a lot of stuff we didn't expected.
It would have be OK if Essen doesn't exist. Our manufacturer told us few days ago that if we want to be ready for Septembre, we have to send him the files for the end of July. He has a lot of customers that press him because they want to be at Essen with their products then he pressed us.

We don't want to spoil our game quality for that so we decided to delay the release. We will be two months late and will deliver the game in November.
I'm sure you'll understand that and keep supporting us. You want the best so do we.

So yeah, least shocking Kickstarter news ever - a delay!

Ah, forget the overly sensative... they can wollow in their own misery. Color warz is just that, cute little brightly colored things that fight with magic, paint, and paint brushes (or it looks that way anyway).

I looked at the maker's website, this could be really cool. Their minis seem excellent quality and would literally make or break this game imho. I will have to keep an eye on this!

I'm surprised they went with that name. Maybe it's because I live so close to the pier where all the skinheads congregate, maybe it's because I know people who own copies of the Turner Diaries, but I can't see "Color Warz: Dark Threat" as anything but hilarious.

It reminds me of the time a major political organization with millions of self-identifying members named themselves after a non-vanilla sexual act and it apparently took months for someone to point this out to them.

EDIT: Does anyone have a link? I can't find them on Kickstarter, but I want to share this on Facebook so we can all have a good laugh.

I hope that you're being ironic/sarcastic here. I don't know anything about the racial politics of Canada, but recent events have shown that here in the United States you can stalk and murder a black child with complete impunity. The racial order is still very much in place.

I do like the very poking-fun at grimdark term "Dark Threat" though

I feel like this post is dangerously close to becoming a racial politics argument.

Also, I read the name and immediately thought it had racial overtones. Maybe its an American thing?

I don't see it either. I think if folks are bringing up racial overtones that's at risk of saying more about them than the game.

To be honest It reminds me of the Mickey Mouse paint game storyline, and I'd say they'd have more to worry about from that avenue than any racial issues so lets leave that kind of off topic discussion for the forum with name it was designed for eh?

Regarding the game, it looks very colourful and very kid friendly, not sure if that was their key market but my boys would love it.

I am getting pretty burned out with Kickstarter mind.

Yeah, I have no problem with this game as far as I can tell... I think the racial discussion is a bit far afield, to be honest. We're talking about a paint themed board game that is made in (I believe) France:

So the guy with the brush SORTA looks like a kid-Tau.

My previous post got deleted, apparently, but I don't think it's too much of a stretch for someone to read: "Dark Threat" and see it as veiled racism if looked out without any context. You put it in the hands of someone like the "good reverend" Jesse Jackson, and It's immediately about Dark being bad and light being good. Again, not a huge stretch, IMO.

Still think the models look neat.

I think it is time to move past that - at least until:

1) The KS launches
2) It actually becomes a problem

Which, if taken in the proper context - miniature wargaming involving paint, brushes and colors.

So in other words - it really shouldn't be a problem.

Unless it is - maybe they'll change the name before it launches.

Concerned parties should email the 2 companies involved directly.

Oh, I really don't think it should be. But I think its ignorant to say that there couldn't be some overt connotation in there, especially in the US. I don't htink there's anything wrong with being able to recognize that something could have potentially racial undertones; doing so is a great way to prepare yourself when someone DOES say that, with answer as to why they're wrong.

Again, watching with curiosity, but if the pricing and shipping costs are anything like with Heroes of Normandie, I may have to wait. Kinda regret missing HoN sometimes, but It does look like i'll be able to get it stateside from one of the online retailers without having to pay $30 for shipping. I know that means as a 'Murican I've been spoiled by comparatively cheap shipping, but yeah.... it is what it is.

Dark Threat D-day and some other news...
Update #110 · Sep 12, 2013 · 6 comments

Today's the day. The Dark Threat campaign is about to start today at 1 PM (London time), 8 AM (NY time).

This game's great, that's why, here at Devil Pig Games, we decided to help the Fluo Game team to kick start their project. This is really the kind of game we like to play. Very strategical, fun and easy yet deeply intense.
The mechanic's audacious and original, the game design is elegant and sophisticated. It's a perfect game to initiate someone to wargames or satisfy hardcore gamers in a merciless confrontation.

How are we involved ? We gave them the structure to set up the KS campaign and provided advices to make it successfull (hope we did well). We drove their strategy to fit our guide lines, honesty and generosity.
Honesty to say, yes it's gonna be messy as usual
Generosity because we value your support and know that without you, these kind of projects wouldn't even exist. We proved our generosity already with HoN...

So we asked for a VIP offer dedicated to our backers and their own community. By pledging within 48 hours you'll get an entire game for free, Color Warz : Paint Brawl, the first episode of the mighty war that rumbles the coloured world.
We also decided to add a special Heroes of Color punchboard, based on our game system, set in their univers. A dedicated scenario will be available to download on our website.

We're aware that this game isn't really the kind of game you expected as Heroes of Normandie fans, but we are gamers after all ! When a project fulfills our gaming craving we can't let it go... That's why we took the risk to support them and propose to you and, we hope, to a lot more new backers this amazing game : Color Warz : Dark Threat.

Now it's their turn to work hard as we have a lot up our sleeves for you guys !

And now something completely different... HoN rules in english (latest version) are available on demand. Send Clem an email (clem@devil-pig-games.com).

But damn is it a confusing page... I don't really understand what I'm looking at or what I actually get at a pledge level...

Seems...awfully expensive. If you're looking at this for minis (which is obviously one of the drawing points here), you're in for the bargain basement deal of a price, $245 including shipping. Zoinks....

Yeah, I was looking through the page, saw that, and stopped. Seems very much like Krosmaster Arena in that regard. Cool minis... but the price is crazy if you weren't really into the game.

I bought in to Krosmaster, and at least with that you the full game for under $100 bucks, which IMO is a pretty appropriate price point for it. (meaning, I think $100 is a fair pricepoint for the game itself).

This one...I just dont know....

I think some of the Early Birds get you an entire other game for "free" - Color Warz Paint Brawl.

But...yeah, seems really expensive.

And to fair, the 'full' Krosmaster 'experience' was a tick or two higher than $100.

You know, I heard that "full experience" nonsense from people complaining about the Zombicide WoK minis (I still think CMoN should have required people to buy a WoK faction starter to get them---also, I don't think you're complaining here, Alph, just an FYI) but my wife and I are enjoying Krosmaster Plenty with the $150 I spent that got me the first three expansions and the promo minis (the promos are really why I got the $150 instead of the lower one).

Honestly, for the quality of the components and the gameplay with Krosmaster, I think $100 is a steal. And I was one of the biggest critics of it during the KS.

That's actually really good to know, cincy. The problem is, they don't really indicate what's a good "buy in" level for it... I saw a guy at GenCon that had spent $300 and still didn't have "everything".

Too much "gotta catch 'em all" for me at times... a board game should be at least mostly self-contained for a really good gaming experience, with optional content being truly optional or modifying the game in a significant way as an expansion (not integral to the base game).

But it's good to hear you like Krosmaster with a lower buy-in... even watching it at GenCon I still couldn't figure out how much was really needed for a good experience. This game is very similar in that respect, imo.
