a carnival/ boardwalk type area?
There was also a tease about the humans repurposing Martian tech down the line... hmmm....
I'm curious what these space mercs are going to consist of. Veermyn? Marauders? More weird and varied Cantina scene type aliens that can get tossed into the Deadzone?

As it's a licensed product I don't think any of the Warpath races will be making an appearance. Adam from Topps said that the alien mercs are the few survivors of worlds already destroyed by the Martians and who are now trying to stop them from destroying other worlds (they have already been deigned for the new card set so we should have spoilers when they start to leak, if not before).

Or Deadzone.
Well, either way, massive front-loading due to the early birds, obviously.
I expect a lot of people are sitting on some early bird, "waiting to see how it goes".
Also, the whole "core-add-on" story, as well as the "add-on-budget-included" might make people more conservative in "just upping the pledge by 10 bucks" every time a new add-on mini is revealed, and instead wait towards the end of the campaign to see how all those add-ons sort themselves out.

Mantic knows it'll hurt early momentum, but think it'll increase the overall number of backers and get more people interested due to the choice on offer.
It worked well on me... I was just going to go for the basic boxed game for this one, but the EB1 was $140 with $125 credit.. so boxed game for $15 effectively. Nice. Decided to snap it up.
The structure also makes it more tempting to add a lot more add-ons since if you double up on your $150 pledge to add $125 of extra credit (rather than just buying add-ons as normal) you get a second copy of the game for $25.
And Early Birds can double up or triple up their early birds too which is really great.
We're about to hit the point where people start upping their pledge I think $50 flying saucer pack + $45 expansions leaves $30 left in credit before $150 backers start upping their pledges, most likely by doubling up.
I'm glad I won't have to do any post-KS trading or selling on this, or end up with any unwanted minis. With Deadzone, the plague and marauders were surplus to my interests and I'd have loved to be able to get forgefathers and asterians instead. It really is a great KS template.

Either way... Raging Heroes ended up with some US$ 250 average amount pledged. Deadzone / DreadBall with ~ US$ 280 average amount pledged.
Mars Attacks is sitting on a conservative ("wait-and-see" I interpret it) US$ 136,- average amount pledged.
If (!) Mantic can tease people to spend Deadzone/DreadBall-levels of cash at they end, that would be another 1/4 million right there without even a single new backer.

Yeah, I was turned off by the comic-book tie in stretch goals. I'm actually more familiar with MA! through the references made in comics over the years. OTOH, It's often hard to come up with a good story to add to a popular franchise.
Too bad there's no crossover with CMON's Zombicide boardgames. An amusing scenario would be the players as the survivors in coop mode, with the zombies and martians following AI rules!

Nah, 20 minis for 15 is pretty insane, and I think its only possible because its hard plastic. They aren't making the mars attacks stuff in the same hard plastic (it has some kind of proper name but I surely don't recall it), but of the plastic they used for Loka. It sounds like decent stuff, but I'd bet it isn't as cost effective as hard plastic sprues.
They'll probably be sets of 10 martians/soldiers for $15 by the end of the kickstarter. Compare that to IG cadians who are 10 for 29. OFC the cadian kit comes with lots of cool extras and the martians/soldiers are just single part minis... But still, I don't think 15 is bad at all. The deadzone zombies were just an incredibly good deal

There will at least be 10 different poses in the martian and soldier sets which should help eliminate the lack of variety that 1-piece minis usually have.
$15 for 10 isn't bad at all, they'll retail for $25 for 10.

RRP is a bad deal. I haven't looked for any analogue of the aliens, but Empress Miniatures sells 16 metal US soldiers for £24, making Mantic's 15% more expensive.

That's what I want to know too - same for the Saucer - would I ever need 3? sure it might be a good deal for $50, but if I only ever need one then it isn't.
I'm holding off upping my credit until I know how many of anyone type of figure I might need, also I need to keep some credit back for the human stretch goals - I assume we'll get a tank or something to balance the Martian vehicles.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Asked on the KS page about how many of the troops and saucers we'd need:
Mantic said:
"there is a basic scenario included with the beta They get bigger in scale though and in game terms, I know Jake is playing around with being able to fit up to 6 models in a square (so you could fit all the Martians you're already getting in 2 and a bit squares! - it might not be the best tactics, but gives you an idea of how many models you could fit on the board!) We're designing the Saucers to be pretty light, and there will be a scenario where you can use 3. We may even increase the board size at some point..."

Not to devolve too much into pedantry, but $25 with Mantic tends to translate into a £15 UK price point (at least it did with the Dreadball teams), which can often be reduced further by buying through third parties.
Of course, one thing I'd warn people about slightly is that Mantic's Kickstarter prices sometimes don't have any bearing on what eventual RRP ends up being. Their Kings of War Kickstarter had stuff as $25 BOGOF, but sometimes that actually ended up being worse than retail - the Sisterhood on foot was £17 for 20 on the Kickstarter without any metal command options, or £20 at retail with. Then again, in Mars Attacks most of your credit is at a discounted rate anyway!

Their new site can be previewed already, there's even a major header for kickstarter alone which just goes to show how vital it is to their business:

I like that "Free Rules" is one of the new main page links, those were always a little too hard to navigate to.

Following what Scarlet squig was saying.
I'm in at the $90 Early Bird (originally had $140 but trying to look after my pennies)
I'm very much on the edge of needing to pledge a few more pennies.
I'll be doing the Core Add on for Henry & The Flea, and adding only one flying saucer. Leaving me $10 spare.
Those being a lot less thrifty than me (originally backing the $140+) will no doubt be approaching that soon too. $50 saucers, core add on etc.
Have to wait and see what the rest of the campaign brings. Worst case scenario I'll change to the $150 late in the day.
Soon as we unlock a few more that the 'free credit' doesn't cover it'll start scooting up a bit more.

At the moment I will sit on the EB $140 pledge and the $125 credit and see what comes through.
As we progress and we get more Core Add ons, I believe that I (and many more) will be sorely tempted by adding a second Invasion pledge (getting the EB price) to get the additional $125 to spend.
This being so I expect that this KS is likely to see a big rise in the last week or so when we get a better idea of what is on offer - alternative deluxe playmats and civilian/first responders would be great.
Talking of playmats is it me or is the T junction on the existing map off centre? If it is it will be hard to match up any extras we get.
Now we have saucers I expect a robot at $500k, but sadly I do not think it will the 1962 version with claws and spiked feet, nor the movie one (no license) but it will the sleek cyclops version of the IDW comics. However a big robot is still a big robot.

Whoops -- I meant comic book references in the odd old indie comic book to the original Topps trading cards, not the new MA comic series. I don't read comics anymore, so haven't gotten around to the new Topps MA series. So the ZOMG HUMAN CHARACTERS doesn't do it for me. I think of MA as some sort of reflection of American culture at the time, rather than some overblown carnival B-Movie: http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2012/10/11/162625206/mars-attacks-at-50-a-look-back-at-a-bloody-battle
I also don't like how "free" isn't "free". I don't like how they call something "free" when you can only get the stuff with the add-ons. I also think the add-ons are overpriced, so the credit you pay for with the pledge isn't worth as much as the pledge. It's also kinda obvious to me that the "free credit" amounts are teasers. They want you to make multiple pledges or overpledge. The $100 pledge with its $50 credit isn't going to get *that* much additional stuff. I'm not too interested in spending more than $100 on MA, so I'm pulling out.
...unless they have a Stan Lee with typewriter figure!

While my exposure to the original cards is somewhat limited, I do remember that there used to be a bunch of large scale model kit dioramas that were extremely grimdark. @ Ced1106 - Fair enough. they changed the whole "free" thing though. They were using it in the context of "this $20 set has three models in it than are worth $8 each, making it worth $24, and then we're going to add this $15 character to it at no extra cost." which is kinda the definition of free, but whatever, I'm not going to debate that - they listened and changed it, they're now all just upgrades.
The credit will get you enough, and the prices aren't dissimilar to their other kickstarters, or any others for that matter, and Deadzone ended up with $300+ worth of stuff for the $150, so Im expecting something similar.
