Instead, look at the middle east, and then look at the West. Very, very different places. Here in the West we've simply got a lot less to be angry about in general, while in the Middle East, well there's a lot of problems. As a result, affronts even as minor as a book burning can take on a crazy level of importance. It wasn't that long ago that Christians got pretty god damn crazy about this kind of stuff as well. The Wars of Reformation were crazy. But, well, once you get a nice car and a few hundred cable tv shows to choose from, getting angry enough to kill someone over burning a book just doesn't make sense anymore. At least the Jews & Muslims have an original book, unlike the Christians. Actualy the authorship of the Koran is widely debated. It's generally believed that there was no single edition at the time of Mohammed's death, and it was assembled over time, and mostly drawn from oratory (which likely would have changed from what Mohammed had originally said). Automatically Appended Next Post: whembly wrote:I'm not sure that's right... The Bible was revised thousands of times... There's lots of supporting documents to the Koran, but the original was written in one language in which it is still mostly written in today, and that's a language that people still speak. In fact, there's plenty of debate within Islam whether versions other than the Arabic should even be considered legit (a debate where both sides mirror the two sides of Vatican II very closely). Now that doesn't mean the book is therefore the word of God through Mohammed (see my post above), but it does make it different to the bible in that sense.

There was not a single written copy at the time of his death, see my post above.
And saying arabic is still used today is a bit off, because the language has undergone massive transformations grammatically and syntactically. Even more than old english and modern english.

My wording was unclear. I should have said 'no agreed edition', that is, at the death of Mohammed there was not only no formal, written version of what the Koran should contain, but also no particular agreement on exactly what such a book should contain.
And saying arabic is still used today is a bit off, because the language has undergone massive transformations grammatically and syntactically. Even more than old english and modern english.
But it's still the same language. It isn't aramaic, is what I'm saying.

Totally disagree with what this guy is doing, acts like that have no place in Christianity.
But I wanted to comment on the Quran origin discussion. There is a big difference between the Quran and the Bible, in that the Quran as we know it now, was the outcome of one of Mohammeds followers burning all of the other qurans (Uhtman I believe), to create only 1 version. And it was strictly enforced that this is the only version. Kind of like an extreme "King James Onlyism".
We now have no way of knowing what the original Quran was.

Can't locate my criminal code, but up here it would definitely be considered a hate crime. Hate crimes laws are conjunctive with any other crimes, under Section 718.2 CCQ ;
A court that imposes a sentence shall also take into consideration the following principles:
(a) a sentence should be increased or reduced to account for any relevant aggravating or mitigating circumstances relating to the offence or the offender, and, without limiting the generality of the foregoing,
(i) evidence that the offence was motivated by bias, prejudice or hate based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or any other similar factor, . . . shall be deemed to be aggravating circumstances.''
I don't have it by memory, but ostensibly destroying objects of cult is a criminal offense.

Reported that nice little quip. Toodles
I don't know, you don't check up for a couple of days and look what happens
The Torah and the Quran and presented as books that were written down at the time of the events (the accuracy of this perception is another matter). The Christian bible wasn't. It's not as if it's always been presented as an original from day one, it's own history shows it was "collated" at various times through history. The Christian calendar which we follow was standardised in 1582:
The calendar was a reform in 1582 to the Julian calendar.[5] The motivation for the reform was to bring the date for the celebration of Easter to the time of the year in which the First Council of Nicaea had agreed upon in 325. Because the spring equinox was tied to the celebration of Easter, the Roman Catholic Church considered this steady drift in the date of Easter undesirable. The reform was adopted initially by the Catholic countries of Europe. Protestants and Eastern Orthodox countries continued to use the traditional Julian calendar and adopted the Gregorian reform after a time, for the sake of convenience in international trade.
So, no, I don't think you seriously believe that the Bible is the word of God at all.
As to feeling the need to report my original post, let me just clarify something. I do not "have" to respect anybody's religious belief, you chose it, it's not like a physical handicap that you were born with.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. This is pretty off-topic, but:
Unless I am reading it in Aramaic(and even that is just a collection of old stories, not written as they happened- but still the closest to the true source), I refuse to see the Bible as anything other than a book in the style of Aesop's Fables. The law against eating of pork was probably originally driven by the fact that improperly cooked pork can kill you, and saying "God tells us not to" was the easiest way for the village elders to get the point across to the common citizen.
Too many people have had their hands on the bible over the millennia. Half the translations were defined by someone's will. Used to be that the term "Witch" in "suffer not the witch to live", was an Aramaic word that translated to something similar to "a person that uses their power for evil". So it pretty much meant "Tyrant" or "evil-doer". But then it got translated during the Inquisition era, and the new term "Witch" stuck, because of the sensationalism of that sort of thing in those times, and has never changed back. And that's just one word out of the entirety of the book.
