Hmm what else could they do to draw viewers?

Nah, go hard in the opposite direction.

A bevy of women who are clearly intelligent, knowledgeable in their fields of choice, who fend off questions to their expertise with rapier wit, and not once is the audience subjected to an unfortunate display of pure objectification as though it really means anything.

The twittersphere and facebookiverse will start begging for 'them ay-rab terrists' to win if they just get to see more scantily clad women again.

No, it's representative of the Indian community, just like irish dancing is representative of the Irish community. For something to represent a nation it needs to be part of the dominant culture or at least home grown. There are plenty of dance styles that would do this. The USA is home to country, jazz, hip hop, swing, rock n roll, and while those are all music styles, they all have distinctive dance styles associated with them.

A good chunk of country music owes it roots to the Irish that settled in Appalachia.

Somewhere in south-central England.

And apparently it isn't racist to complain that an "arab" brown-skinned woman did an Indian dance that should have been part of European settlers' heritage in the 19th century but it wasn't.

The dance she did is American, because it is American to be proud of your roots and heritage. She was an amazing dancer and for the brief amount of time she had to perform she really showcased her skill in this form of dance.

The point is, is that the style has been around long enough to become a part of Americana, it's changed from its original. A lot of those "Irish" that settled in Appalachia and the south were actually Scots. Easy way to tell is the real Irish tend to be catholic while the Scots Irish (who originally came from Scotland hence the name) are protestant.

So you can only be Irish if you're Catholic?

You can only be Irish if you actually are Irish. Invading a country, supressing the local language and culture while enforcing your own hardly makes you one of the natives does it? Scots Irish are actually Scots, their heritage and customs come from Scotland. They were planted in Ireland to secure the English defeat of the Irish. Many of them were considered troublesome in their native Scotland so shipping them to Ireland was considered a twofer.

I think you'll find being proud of your roots is common to everyone so everyone in the world must be American.

As an Irishman who recently emigrated to America, and spent a significant portion of his life growing up during the Troubles I would just like to take this opportunity to say that your perspective of Ireland is just a wee bit skewed. Being a different religion than Catholic is no bar to Irish nationality. Unless you think that all those descendants of people from the Plantation should be rounded up and shipped back a few centuries after the fact.

Well by that logic, unless she was wearing a headdress and doing a rain dance she is not American, because that's what the natives did. Everyone else is here by process of " Invading a country, supressing the local language and culture while enforcing your own "

(yes I understand that Native Americans running around wearing head dresses and doing rain dances is pretty stereotypical....but it was to prove a point)

Yeah, but bacon and cabbage is fething delicious. Though so is corned beef, but I dislike the cabbage aspect of it.

Bacon (actual proper back bacon, not the streaky bacon common here) with cabbage and gravy is an awesome meal for a cold night, and it is pretty simple to prepare. I have an Irish cookbook here so this winter I plan on making things like fish pie and maybe some yellowman.

I had to explain to my wife the difference between proper bacon and streaky bacon so I didn't want to make assumptions Sodabread is awesome. A great hangover cure was always a mug of coffee, then sausage, bacon and egg between two slices of sodabread.

Now that it is getting colder again I might start making more wheaten bread too

I am a fat American that got that way trying foods from everywhere I could, not because I like Big Macs (bleck!), so I know a little more about food than some of my compatriots.

What I'd like to try more of is Indian food (look on topic!). We've got an Indian restaurant down the street from where I work, they've got some choice food, always wanting to try more.

As an immigrant with an expanding waistline I've been trying to get the balance between enjoying my food and not needing new jeans every month So far I'm down 10lb in a month and a half
Where we are there is one Indian restaurant that mainly serves a buffet, but it is really good. Indian food is one thing that can be quite hard to get here, but my mother-in-law did make an awesome lamb dhansak not too long ago
