Subject: Will people care if Imp. fists are run as iron hands?
So with the new codex space marines out and its chapter tactics being so specific on who they belong to, do you think people will care if I took my yellow imperial fists but use iron hand chapter tactics instead of imperial fists?
What if I run tigerius but everyone else in the army has a fist mark on their shoulderpad instead of the ultramarine "U".
I think this is an interesting topic because it is a version of 'counts as' but kind of not at the same time since all of the chapter tactics rules and all of the various chapter special characters are in one book.
What do you think?

so long as you tell people you are playing ultramarines. then there is no problem using tigerius no matter what color your marines are.

I remember how back in 5th edition, people would run their CSM as space wolves and people would get upset about it when the reality was that the only difference between a chaos marine and a grey hunter are looks but all the weaponry and the type of armor are the same.
Do you think codex space marines will have the same sort of issue and debates based on my examples earlier?

You would get just the tiniest amount of down-looking from me in secret, as I'd suspect you were "codex hopping" within your own codex, but I wouldn't even mention it.
Of course if you explain what's going on to your opponent they should have no problems with it.
Honestly, the fact that you managed to show up with painted miniatures from the correct army more than covers for any proxying you'd have to be doing, especially when the proxying affects an army-wide trait, rather than anything on the model itself (other than its paint job).
Can allways convert or buy your own IF libby and just call him tig.
Just make sure the wargear is the same and its clear on your list who he is.
Even telling the other player before the game helps.
Ive played tons of armies that use a different chapter character because it fits well or looks good.
Heck, ive even run vulkan in my iron hands because his rules fit the fluff better than any other character at the time

Ailaros pretty much typed out the words in my head.
What? IF run as IH? Heresy I say! Heresy! Who do they think they are, Alpha Legion?
Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Space marine is space marine. Just make sure they know which tactics you are using. If you wanted to run Thousand Sons as Space marines of the Iperial Fist chapter....as long as you tell people what you are doing..knock yourself out.
Its a game, have fun. If you arent for some reason...find a new one.

The only people that would get gakky about you doing that are the same douches that claim a black battle wagon doesn't benefit from the red paint job upgrade.
Smack them with your codex.

black as in just base coated or using a black colour scheme? Call me a stickler for it, but when a vehicle has an upgrade called red paint job and there isn't even a red racing stripe (or just something on it red) then I'm a little disappointed.
