Idea from a recent thread conversation. My personal preference is the older covers, drawn art not photos ahem...

The crazy space marine battles or the barbarian battling through a dull lit dungeon! The new photo covers just don't cut it in my book!

What do you think, what is your favourite cover?

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Great idea for a thread!

Difficult one this - do you judge based on the associational effect, of a cover on a WD that you particularly liked, or on the merits of a cover based purely on art/layout?

The 80's/90's stuff was some of my favourite, simply because it was the time when GW were using freelance artists, and had new and original material coming out of their ears.

This one, based on it being the cover of the 'Eldar Issue', number 127, when I truly got drawn into the 40k universe. Think for many this is their favourite 40k issue (sorry, this is the only online image I could find)

And always liked this from an arty-type perspective, very cool.

Always loved this undead cover. I remember not starting undead at the time because the models didn't live up to the art

It's probably just the nostalgia from how much awesome stuff the Magic supplement this was the cover from added to the game but definitely one of my favourite images

While I do really like this Asmodai art this is probably my favourite cover because this is the first issue of White Dwarf I ever read. And what an issue! The how to make rivers article changed our games completely. The Legion of the damned special character inspired me to look more into the 40k setting. The Frenzy and especially the using historical battles like "Custer's Last Stand" to create your own scenarios for all their core games articles were great reads.

But most of all it was the Imrik and Teclis vs Egrimm battle report that got me to buy my first army. Of course being a ridiculous kid with my birthday money my starting force was Imrik, Tyrion, Teclis, a chariot and the Everqueen with handmaidens boxed set.

For feths sakes.. it would be nice to have one thread without someone feeling the need to troll. It's pathetic.

Did I say something? Cause that's a somewhat harsh response to a person who's merely sharing a magazine cover that he likes, I feel?

I've only collected WD for a few years, but the ones that stick out include the one with the Blood Angels omnibus art:

and the 6th ed release one (Edit: changed for smaller image)

Both are just cool SM art in an of themselves. I'll also second the idea that the old artwork ones were far better than the new model-photo-of-the-month ones.

Sorry mate, I don't believe you. Unless that is the only issue of WD you have ever bought, and even then it's arguable that hot needles inserted into your eyes would provide a better aesthetic experience.
