Wow, I haven't posted an update since November!

I've been painting, but there was a LOT of house sitting that happened in November and December that pretty much prevented me from doing much work. I also have just not wanted to go through the effort of taking photos, editing them, and posting them. Throw in distractions from video games on top of that and I haven't really been the most productive.

Still, as I said, I have been painting.

Let's start with the most time consuming figure of the bunch, Typhus. This is the figure that was made by Wargames Exclusive. This guys is actually probably too busy, sculpt-wise. He just will not photograph well because of it. As you can see, he is not wielding a Man-Reaper. They gave the option of some tonfa type weapons and I just had to go with them for something a little different.

Next, we have the HQ Assassin, also from Wargames Exclusive.

I finally got back to painting Infinity stuff after probably a half-year long hiatus. Started with the PanO Locust.

He was followed up with a Hospitaller Crusader Brethren (whose base isn't quite finished, but the rest of the figure is).

In the fantasy field, I picked up this nasty monster from WizKids' Deep Cuts line. I think it's a flesh golem? It's a gnarly looking monster though, and he's big. He's also painted entirely with washes and Contrast paints.

I painted up one of the Heresy Labs figures I had received from one of their previous Kickstarters. As usual, my camera and lighting do me no favors and all of the shading and highlights are completely washed out. She looks a lot better in person.

This figure also happens to be fairly large. She towers over an actual Chaos Marine.

Speaking of, I painted that Iron Warrior, just for something a bit different from painting Death Guard and Raptors.

Now, for something a little different.

I've been a big fan of GI Joe since I was a kid. I've collected the toys for years. Unfortunately, Hasbro never took the opportunity to combine my love for GI Joe with my love for tabletop gaming. Some fans on the other hand did. This were some fan-made figures with a very limited production run. I've been given permission to show them off, but I can't really give much more info about where to get them or anything. These figures are pretty basic. The sculpts aren't amazing, but they get the job done and they fit in very nicely with my other modern stuff. I don't have any Joes, but I do have a squad of Iron Grenadiers that I'm working on. I keep telling Highlord Tamburlaine we need to have my Cobras try and infiltrate his Amazon temple so they can recover a component of the MASS Device.

Here's their officer.

And the troopers

As with my Lady of Wrath, the camera and my lights washed out most of the details.

I also did Wild Weasel. I imagine that since I don't have a Rattler for him, he'll probably just wind up being a glorified objective token.

Finally, last night I painted one whole 15mm figure!

This is one of Ground Zero Games' New Israeli Heavy Infantry resculpts. I've had him and pretty much a full squad for a while, just haven't done anything with them. I couldn't decide on a color scheme. Their very Spartan-like design would probably lend itself very nicely to greens, but that just seems like it'd be an overdone color scheme for them. I tried something a little different and tried adapting Spartan Carter's colors from Halo Reach.

I'm not sure I care for the results. I don't want to do a full squad in these colors and I'm not feeling the gunmetal sections. I feel like white could look good, but that's going to look too much like those unproduced Micropanzer figures I'd painted. I'm always open to suggestions.

That golem is fantastic. I mean, they’re all fantastic, but I appreciate a paint job of just washes and contrast paint, especially when it turns out so well. Truly an inspiration.

Can you believe I haven't touched this thread since January?

I've been painting. I just haven't been posting very much. mostly just on Instagram. My painting progress has been very slow, too. Partially, I blame Fallout 4 for sucking up my time. Warframe, too. But, like I said, I've been painting stuff. Here's a few items I've painted over the months.

Rogue Stars Sniper bot

A mutant ganger from The Others, one of a number of random mutants I got from my brother.

Another random mutant. I'm quite proud of this one. This is a Hex Beast from Wild West Exodus. He's also really big.

This guy is one of Die Auserwahlten, from Achtung Cthulhu. Now, I know in the picture he looks bright pink and rather undetailed. That's not how he looks in person! As usual, my photography skills and lighting suck. It's actually a much darker, meatier looking color scheme, like raw muscle. I'm going to try doing something a bit different with the other two, though.

This is a 28mm Ion Age Nox, which has been sitting on my desk for a VERY long time. I had finally just buckled down and finished up a month or two ago. An interesting thing about these guys, the Shia Khan troops are actually space elves. This guy is an evil space elf in power armor that's intentionally designed to look like a monster. You don't see stuff like that much in tabletop gaming or sci-fi in general.

Next we have a pressganged civillian fighter from Carnevale that I got from my brother.

Not the best pic, but this is a Nuclear Sandlot figure from Brother Vinni. Very clearly meant to look like a NCR Ranger.

Finally, I finally got myself to finish my Chaos Obliterator. Now my Weeping Legion have some heavy support, even if it isn't actually legal in regular 40k.

Welcome back. That hexbeast is weird and gross. Also, I never knew that Shia Khan were supposed to be space elves. I have a bunch of Firefight levies that I used to use as Imperial Guard, and I used shia khan models as weapons crews.

Hex Beast turned out well. I've got plenty more random stuff I can toss your way this week too, if you're interested!

Am I responsible for that Obliterator? I can't remember.

I'm really happy with how the Hex Beast came out. I've been looking for mutants to use in Zona Alfa, and I think he'll be perfect. I got some other mutants from Highlord Tamburlaine from The Other Side along with him. Some of those would work well, too. Just a matter of actually getting to them.

Regarding the Shia Khan, most of the models of them, in either 28 and 15mm don't depict them without at their helmets. However, there are a smattering that are without. There's about four special release 15mm figures that have them without helmets and there's a 28mm Nox with his helmet open. They're supposed to be elves. At the very least, they're very humanoid aliens.

Highlord Tamburlaine, I could be down for some more mutant scum. That Obliterator though is definitely mine. I got him off Ebay. You gave me a trio of Hitech Oblits, though. I painted one of them up as an Iron Warrior. I thought I'd posted him, but it looks like that was just on Instagram. I'll have to post him here.

Plague Marine Raptors are totally not something that you can run in 40k, unfortunately. You can run Raptors with Mark of Nurgle though. Not quite the same thing, plus you have to run them as an allied detachment, I believe. Not so with Grimdark Future, which was what I made these guys for.

These figures were more complex than they look. I had to remove all of the lightning details from their legs, resculpt some of the details, and modify the bodies to actually fit the backpacks. And because I really don't like working with Green Stuff, that meant that these guys sat in an unfinished state for a LOOOOONG time. I am happy to say that they are finally, fully finished.

Boy, sourcing those torsos sucked. Those things are out of production. I'm pretty sure these are actually bootlegs of them, but they get the job done and the detail was still pretty good.

Good stuff Barzam! Really impressive Raptors...

I've been out of the painting scene and Dakka for a few years but was subbed to your thread before and coming back to it now, seems you're still smashing!

As a fan of Death Guard (albeit loyalists!) i can't find fault on the painting

Keep it up!

Small update. I just finished painting this Guard Commander figure.

This guy is actually a resin 3D print from Thingiverse. The file is actually a remix/rescale of another person's stl for an Epic scale Guard Commander. The guys liked it so much he scaled it up and fixed it up for printing at 28mm.

Something I've decided to do recently, because I don't have enough unfinished projects or minis taking sup space, is make another skirmish warband. Thanks to the miracle of 3D printing, I get access to all sorts of interesting things.

Highlorn Tamburlaine is a patron of The Makers Cult and he's managed to get his hands on quite a few of their stls. Something rather unique about them is that they make pretty much a complete Thunder Warrior army. So, I've decided I would make myself a small skirmish warband of Thunder Warriors. Now, I can't just do any old Legion though. I've already got traitor and loyalist Death Guard, I figured why not do their pre-Primarch rendition? So, Dusk Raiders it is!

So far, I've got three figures for the warband complete with a fourth nearly done. I have a handful left still to go though. Really, what's holding me back is that I need to print up a few more bases.

Most likely I'll be running these guys as Primaris proxies for Grimdark Future: Firefight.

First, we have the warband's hero, the Greenskin Slayer. I did him first as a test run. I still need to add the line highlights to him and finish painting his base before I can call him done. He will probably proxy as a Lieutenant.

Next we have the first one I actually finished, the Intercessor Sergeant.

Next is a proxy for a standard Intercessor

Then we have my most recent, completed last night, the RTO/ Spotter.

This guy belongs to a squad of snipers. I have two snipers, which will proxy as Eliminators. I think I'll use their spotter as a regular Intercessor though since there's no rules for a spotter or a Master of Signals, which he could totally stand in for.

This week I'll try and get started on the Eliminator proxies and maybe even start on the Hellblaster proxies.

Something unrelated to the Dusk Raiders that I recent worked on is a generic Chaos Raptor. I forget who designed this, but I really liked the basic, subdued look of this guy. He's part of a full squad with assault and special weapons. Highlord Tamburlaine said these guys were a paint to print though and most of the others in the set had defects.

The base I printed myself. I had a hard time finding a flying stand that I liked, but this one fit the bill quite nicely.

Finally, let's round things out with a new mutant. This happy fellow comes from The Other Side's Cult of the Burning Man. I think I'll be able to get some use out of him.

Those Raptors were a good learning experience though in figuring out how to properly support stuff. Some of those defects may have been due to screen issues, but all their pointy bits needed more supporting, and that's on me

Having seen them all in person I was even more impressed.

Once I've got things up and running again I'll give the rest of those Raptors a shot. Did you print that base yourself?

I think you'll need some Thunder Warrior assault guys too...

I did print the base for the Raptor. You'll notice that it's on the large side. That's because it's actually meant for a Primaris Inceptor, which uses a larger base.

Speaking of Inceptors, Primaris don't actually have jump pack equipped assault troops. So, what I'd actually need would be some more of the Black Knight jump troops. I'll be adding the ones I gave to this warband once I get some bases printed up.

Inmygravenimage, Dusk Raiders are totally a legit thing, and that is their color scheme. It's supposed to be a neutral gray with a deep red right arm, symbolizing their status as the "red hand of the Emperor." They were supposed to have been recruited during the Unification Wars of Earth from Albia, which was one of the Emperor's biggest rivals. He won them over through diplomacy rather than warfare and made them allies. The red right arm shows their high status as the Emperor's right hand.

My red looks a bit bright in my photos, but that's because of my lighting. It's actually much darker and even has highlights.

As far as the palette set goes, I actually painted the Raptor and the mutant weeks ago, well before I started the Dusk Raiders, so they didn't actually share any paint. I was just too lazy to post them when I painted them.

Solid work on the Thunder Warriors. They look just like the book covers!

I was about to say it reminds me of pre-Heresy Death Guard / Dusk Raiders with that red arm . But then i actually stopped drooling and read the text.

Well done!

Another Dusk Raider joins the warband. This time, a sniper armed with an anti-material rifle. He'll count as a Primaris Eliminator.
