I am, like a few others, unwounded other than various small hobby knife cuts. Recently, I got a small cut on my finger which I had assumed wasn't going to bleed but was just delayed. I then noticed that my Terminator (who I was removing Imperial iconography from) was oddly slippery.
This story is amusing because the squad are going to be Khorne Terminators. Anointed in blood for the Blood God!
Also, holding two torso halves together as the glue dried between my teeth (so I could type on IM) and taking a good breath of superglue fumes. Not fun.

I managed to impale myself with an exacto blade in my leg about an inch above my knee cap. It went so deep it went clean through my tendon and was stuck in the bone. I had to pull it out with a pair of needle nose pliers and the tip broke off inside the bone. I have a 3mm piece permanently lodged in there fortunately its not sticking out past the surface of the bone otherwise I would have needed surgery in order to keep it from damaging the tendon. It's been there for almost 20 years at this point and I have a nice little scar as a reminder.
Lots of other minor cuts over the years and I recently I got a splash of uncured resin in my eye which didn't cause any permanent damage but it certainly wasn't fun.
My brother in law managed to put out his eye with his dremmel tool. He had it set too high and the disc exploded which put several small fragment through his eye. He's since had 5 separate surgeries to help retain about 25% of the vision in that eye and reattach the retina. He's gone through a lot of pain as a result and is legally blind in that eye. Always make sure you have safety glasses on when using a dremmel.

Years, ago, around 1988-1989, I had the pleasure of knowing an interesting guy at the local comics and gaming store named Thomas. Thomas had run with some gangs when he was a kid until he placed in a foster home with strict parents that straightened him out...mostly. He was dyslexic, so he had grown up with being frustrated while trying to learn things, despite being pretty intelligent, and that manifested itself in day-to-day interaction as his having a rather short temper. He had no time for stupid people and no real censorship between his brain and his mouth.
Thomas was a skilled modeler. At the time, he was working on some original miniatures that were going to be purchased for production by Ral Partha; he was pretty excited about this because he hoped it would help pay for his art school tuition.
Well, we were playing a game of Space Hulk (the old original game). While playing, Thomas was working on scuplting a model out of some sort of oven-hardened clay with an x-acto knife to get the details where he wanted them. I was Marines and he was the Bugs. On one turn, I had the opportunity to run my Flamer guy around a corner to toast an entire room full of nine Genestealers. As I picked up the dice to determine if I killed all the 'Stealers or blew up my Terminator, Thomas sat down on the corner of the table with one leg crossed over the other, reversed the grip on his x-acto, and leaned forward with an intent look, hoping by force of will to affect the outcome of the dice roll.
Well, the flamer hit and all the 'Stealers died. Thomas pounds his calf with his clenched fist with a "Dammit!" exlamation and then froze. Myself and everyone else froze, too. Thomas had driven, straight in and straight out, the entire length of the x-acto blade into his calf. We all waited with baited breath for the impending explosion of expletives and hurled materials. After a breif moment, without even looking at his leg, Thomas says in a completely deadpan voice, "F*** me."
He ended up being fine, but everyone had a good laugh over it. His reaction was so different from what everyone expected that it's always stuck in my memory.

Years ago, when I was living in my first apartment (trust me, it was tiny and low-end) I had a little mishap. It was the middle of summer, the air conditioning was NOT working, it was 110 degrees Fahrenheit outside, and I only had one window that could open.
This was NOT going to deter me from assembling a Bloodthirster on my day off from work. Being so hot though, I needed to disrobe a little to stay cool. So, there I am watching a DVD of "the Village" in my tighty-whitey underwear, sitting on the floor cross legged, all the while trying to fit together a giant metal monster, which did NOT fit together properly. It was one of those situations where you need four hands to put a model together properly.
I had two large pieces of the model ready to go, so I reached down, grabbed the bottle of superglue, used my mouth to twist off the cap, and turned the bottle over.
In my haste, I failed to notice that no only did I twist off the regular cap, but the entire top of the bottle, applicator and all. I ended up dumping almost 1 fluid ounce (28 milliliters for you metric lovers) strait into my lap and hand. I then stupidly tried to use that hand to scoop off the superglue from my lap.
I ended up gluing my fingers together, my hand to my leg, my underwear to my leg (and "other" parts), "other" parts to my leg, and my leg to the carpet. It felt like getting a bikini wax getting all that glue off me.

The dremel may be the most dangerous tool in the modeller's arsenal. I managed to impale my own thigh once, when an old, dull drill bit slipped. Thankfully it was a very small guage.

Is it just me or is there a higher number of genitalia affecting superglue incidents than one would expect here That sounds painful, and is also the reason why I am always carful with it. Remember kiddies, superglue is very dangerous. Always respect it and always pay full attention to what you are doing with it.

I feel like there is something missing to this story... was he using lead based paint from the 80s?

He drank soap normally used to clean oil based paints from brushes. It has do not injest on the bottle for a reason.also this wasn't a small guy. He was 6ft plus and lifts.

When very small (maybe 11-12), I was staying at my nan's for a few weeks in the summer, and had taken my newly bought 40k 2nd ed box with me. After playing through a few of the early missions with my lil bro on the bedroom floor, we went to bed without bothering to clear up. Next morning, I jumped out of bed for my morning pee, and impaled my left foot on a half dozen of the Gretchin that we had neglected to put back in the box the night before.
It hurt, a lot. My nan had to pick out a couple of the spikes on the helmets that become detached in my frantic hopping...And being an old fashioned cockney, she then decided that the best thing to do would be to give my wounded foot a quick bathe in TCP....
Apart from that, it's really just a couple of cuts form hobby knives, unfortunate glueing of fingers to other body parts and ruining of brushes due to a lack of patience (painting before the plastic glue had dried), ahhh the folly of youth..

chromedog wrote: heartserenade wrote:Just a tip: superglue works for closing wounds really fast. Make sure to disinfect it first to avoid infection. Thankfully, every time I get a cut from a hobby knife a bottle of superglue and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol is just grabbing distance away from me. Had two injuries this week (because now I'm regularly changing blades. Apparently the only thing that made me accident free these past few years are dull blades), both solved quickly by alcohol and superglue. Just a note on this. Whilst SOME superglue is used for surgical purposes, regular stuff that you can get in a hardware/general store is NOT the same as MEDICAL grade stuff. Regular stuff is more of an irritant and more likely to trigger an allergic response. Medical grade stuff is a different chemical makeup The chemistries and interactions are quite different and they should not be mixed up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethyl_cyanoacrylate is regular superglue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butyl_cyanoacrylate and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2-octyl_cyanoacrylate are medical grade glues. The risks might be low, but you can 'poison yourself' using the regular stuff. Poisoning from Superglue isn't the part you should be worried about. I imagine it *could* happen, but I doubt its likely. The reason you shouldn't close your wounds with superglue is because it traps in all the bacteria and such, leading to a much higher chance of infection. According to my wife, who is an Emergency Room physician, never do it at home. I found this out when I cut myself very badly with our new kitchen knives that we got for our wedding. Of course she was at work when this happened. I couldn't get the wound to stop bleeding, so eventually I got out our home medical kit and found the Dermabond (we have all the fancy medical stuff at home). Dermabond is basically just medical superglue. I was so proud of myself for gluing myself up and stopping the bleeding that I showed her when she got home. She was not pleased and I got an earful about it, haha.

Never hobby in your (sleeping/bed)rooms. Its common sense . My worst injury was in tech theater class when a rotating grinder I was using to take off staples caught my finger and stripped off a very sizable chunk of skin. Meh. I got a bandaid on, and continued my day.

When I got back into the hobby, when the 5th Grey Knights book came out, I sliced the tip of my left hand middle finger and finger nail clean off with a razorblade while building my first kit in about six years of so. Blood soaked Grey Knights. I've also had one of those hot-wire pink foam cutters fall on my hand and slowly burn through my thumb because I'm a dungus and forgot to turn it off.
Also a friend of mine almost poked his eye out while getting line of sight on a unit of Night Goblins during a game, though I've heard this is some form of right of passage for OnG players
