Didn't see an Army Painter thread anywhere.
They are expanding their range of inks (washes) with Red, Blue, Purple and Green pnmers priced at 2.75 Euros each on their European store.
All are included in a new ink set
This review on Tale of Painters shows what they're like
http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/review-army-painter-warpaints.html
Alongside this are the 2 new Warpaints Hydra Turquoise and Chaotic Red.
No painted pics as yet to demonstrate how they look.

Nice, might have to get hold of these.
In the review, I definitely prefer the look of the army painter results in some of the tests over the GW ones (old & new), in others - not so much.

And for those not following the Mars Attacks KS comments, the new turquoise and the arrival of similarly coloured Martians may not be a co-incidence!

The latest Army Painter newsletter has announced that Chaotic Red will be getting the colour primer treatment. It should be available all over the globe come March, perhaps April for the more remote corners of the globe.
This was part of the newsletter too:

I may have to rethink my aversion to their products. Between the $30 cans of what is essentially minwax polyshades and especially the $15 cans of colored primer that always came out fuzzy no matter the weather, I haven't bought anything but their tufts of grass in 4 years. Ruined more than a few models with their crappy expensive primer which at the best of times the colored primer came out with a rough texture.
But, I may like the new washes Tale of Painters reviewed. They may be a better solution to replacing the discontinued GW washes than Vallejo is, especially since vallejo doesn't make a purple wash. How do the paints themselves compare to vallejo model or game color? to reaper master? to P3?

The paints (in the vallejo-style dropper bottles) are fine. Good quality, good coverage. I use quite a few of them mixed in with all of my others. The Inks are great. The coloured primer, I'm not so hot on, and their matt varnish can die in a car fire since it fethed up a couple of my models. Back to clear polyurethane wood varnish for me...

Only AP product I have is the new mega paint set.
The paints and inks are exceptionally good quality, with the same kind of coverage as citadel base paints, only with a much thinner consistency.
Not as thin as vallejo's though, so you don't get that annoying separation of pigment.
Very impressed with them and use them as my core paint range. The coloured inks are great and mix well with each other and with other ranges... a pro-tip for painting white super quickly: Mix Vallejo Light Grey Wash with AP Blue Ink 2:1.. then apply straight over white, leave to dry and re-highlight with white. Super quick and works wonderfully for blue-grey shading.
You can mix the VGC Light Grey Wash with other coloured inks as well to give different tints to the grey wash.. a touch of soft tone turns it into a warm grey wash.
The brushes are terrible, I needed some new brushes, but only the small drybrush in the set was any good at all... far too chunky for my hands (I hold brushes by the ferrule, so the chunky triangle handle is just annoying and uncomfortable), bristles are too long and don't hold their point. Regiment brush is too large and insane detail brush is too small to be of any use for anything.
I ended up buying a GW standard brush just to have something decent to paint with, they were that bad.
In short - Paints and Inks: Highly recommended. Brushes - Avoid.

I've used a lot of their primer, paints and inks.
The skeleton bone primer goes straight on and is pretty good - I had one lot that dried shiny but it was a v cold day.
The gunmetal and yellow primer actually both need primer underneath - but they're great if you do so. As others have said, they're all a little harder to work with than GW sprays, you need to spray from around six inches away, and you have to do so indoors at a reasonable temperature.
I swear by their gunmetal paint, it's just like the old boltgun metal and is fantastic, as is their skeleton bone, which is exactly like bleached bone. Daemonic yellow paint, on the other hand, is dreadful, completely transparent (altho the 'primer' version, which is quite a different colour, is much better). Not all the primers match the separate pots, despite their claims.
Some washes are good... perhaps not up to the best previous GW. The green ink is very brown (definitely not as good as GW, despite that review, the GW ink is a lot brighter and flows better); soft tone is dirtier than Gryphonne sepia. The purple is absolutely great. And dark tone is fantastic of course. They're not all better than the current GW, but purple and dark tone certainly are.
The combination of gunmetal spray with dark tone wash is perfect for large, old metal areas, like buildings or ork stuff, and have made my life a LOT easier. Also, their large, flat brush is perfect for painting and washing large areas.

How do you review their washes and leave out the fact that their strong tone wash is a perfect devlan mud substitute?
Thanks for the review on the other washes. The wash set has been eyeing me every time I'm in the hobby shop lately.
I've found army painter coloured primers to be hit an miss. I had no issue with their metal primer, green primer and blue primer, but I found their white primer to be trash.

I have used at least thirty of the spray cans of color primer and anti-shine spray with not a single problem.
But I also know how to read instructions.
The nozzle produces a much finer spray than traditional spray paints, so you must spray at 6" otherwise the paint particles, which are smaller than normal, will dry on the way to the model and create the 'fuzz'.
If you read the instructions and spray at 6" in smooth even passes, you'll get a perfect model regardless of the weather or humidity. Or at least the 1000+ models I've sprayed with a 100% success rate will attest to. Automatically Appended Next Post: Rhelyk wrote:I may have to rethink my aversion to their products. Having used both minwax and AP dips, they are quite different. AP has a lot more viscosity and flows much better than minwax and minwax is definitely murkier. Minwax = great for hordes of things you don't care about, zombies perhaps. Thankfully I was able to get several cans of Strong, Soft, and Dark tone by AP for about 12 bucks per can so that made it a very easy decision. I'd hate to have to go back to minwax.
The sprays are fuzzy if you don't spray at 6 inches. I have a 100% success rate with AP sprays. Citadel and Armory, on the other hand...

I've had good luck with the Daemon Yellow and Crystal Blue primers, but I've always layered them over a white primer base.
The original three quickshades are amazing. the only Warpaint I tried was Greedy Gold, which was unusually bad.
They are finnicky, and you need to follow instructions pretty closely to get the best results.

Would you recommend the AP dips then? I'm skeptical on the $30 ($23 from online retailer) price tag, but if it's really that better than Minwax for, say, figures that I don't want to look muddy/dirty (I would be using them for Mantic Basileans) then it's worth the price.
I've heard nothing but good things about their brushes and spray primers, I've heard differing things about the paints but they look like it's worth trying at least.

...er, cos I only reviewed the ones I've used? And I still have a pot of Devlan mud.
It's worth repeating that the Soft Tone, while often said to be the same a Gryphonne Sepia, is very different - much darker, with more grey in it, Seraphim Sepia is much closer and actually flows more evenly, I've found.

Have you tried Daemonic yellow?
I found it gives lousy coverage, even at 6". More Dakka found the same and he's painted more than a few Bad Moon Orks...
Edit ...but as mentioned above, Daemonic Yellow primer is fine with a coat of white primer underneath, while the gunmetal primer needs a black coat underneath.

I have used their range to augment my extensive Vallejo collection and can offer the following:
Greenskin and Angel Green are great, quite thin out of the bottle, but also fairly opaque and cover well.
Gun Metal = Boltgun Metal, so that's a winner.
Plate Mail Metal is slightly brighter and cleaner, it also flows of of the bottle well and is one of the best metallic paints I've ever used.
Weapon Bronze was crap. Watery with poor coverage.
Dark Tone, Strong Tone and Soft Tone have already been covered well and I have nothing to add other than I use Dark and Strong regularly and heavily, yet in 18 months of usage I've only gotten through about half a bottle of each. Excellent value.
Brushes - I have a lot of good experience with their character brush and kolinsky brush, less so with others.
Chaotic red reminds me a lot of Vallejo Model Colour Burnt Cadmium Red which is a rich reddy-brown colour. Excellent as a dark red basecoat.

I bought their brush set and a couple of extras awhile back, when my last Citadel brush died. I haven't used them yet since I found another unused Citadel brush while I was waiting for the AP ones to arrive, and have also been using a generic Roymac 5/0 sable. (my W&N S7 3/0 went missing, and I need to order a bunch of stuff from blick to make it worthwhile).

I'm not a fan of "special snowflake" spray cans, nor do I care to need to spray from exactly the right distance else have my models fethed up. That's gakky product design. I'd rather use stuff that's a superior product, and cheaper and doesn't need to be a special snowflake. Both Testors Dullcote and Wattyl Estapol fit those criteria.
