What sort of method did you use to weather the boots? The dirt on the boots is subtle and not overwhelming.

Don't know what method he used, but I know weathering powders give a similar effect. As you say, subtle but effective. But, this guy is sooo much better a painter than I am so may have used a different technique

@ ichigo: Thank you, although unfortunately he's away on active service fighting the enemies of mankind!

@ Marshall Ragnar: The bases are done by first applying PVA glue to based and covering with fine sand. I then apply a watered down dark brown, this also helps to seal in any small particles that have not stuck to the glue. I then dry-brush on 4 different shades of brown, Starting with Balor Brown and working up to a final highlight with Ushabti Bone. The edge is painted with Mournfang Brown I believe. The small rocks are just broken pieces of cork that are glued at the same time as the sand. The patches of grass are GW burnt grass stuck on again with PVA glue.

@ OverwatchCNC: Thank you. My army is based on the 2nd company and their long fought campaigns away from Nocturne. I also feel that personally a Salamanders army would rarely be fighting on their home planet, so for this reason I feel the lava style bases are bit illogical.

@ Robbietobbie: Thank you. I will try and get a flame tutorial up at some point.

@ EmperorsChosen, SBG, FatBoy, TraleC: Thanks very much!

@ Ulterior & Boss Drachenfels: I did use some AK Interactive weathering powder for the Rhino tracks. However the weathering and dirt on the troops is simply a few layers of lightly dry-brushed browns. P.S: Boss Drachenfels, you are too kind, thank you.

these are beautiful! I'd love to know how you're painting the flame effects. it's one of the better styles that I've seen and would look great on some LotD I have waiting in the wings

edit: I'd also be curious to know what greens you've used here. definitely lines up well with the "emerald green" color mentioned in the more recent fluff.

The Chaplain is just amazing! I love the attention to detail, like the very discrete flames on his skull mask.

@ varl & Boss Drachenfels: The flames are all done using all GW paints. Basically, starting from a black base I paint on a basic flame pattern using Evil Sunz Scarlet (Blood Red). I then tidy the flames up to the desired effect using red and black to shape the flames. Once I've got the flame pattern down with the first red layer I then use Troll Slayer Orange always working from the bottom to the top, but making sure that I leave a little bit of red at the top and edges of the flames. Then I use Dragon Fire Bright for the next layer, again making sure to leave a little bit of the previous colour showing at the top. After this I use Yriel Yellow and then Flash Gitz Yellow, again using the same technique.

The most important ting to remember is to keep your paints thinned down. Always add water to your paints, especially when painting small detailed areas. It may take a few more layers, but you will achieve a much smoother finish.

I still havn't had time to do a tutorial yet, will post one as soon as I can.

The green is a thinned down Warpstone Glow (Snot Green) airbrushed onto a black undercoat. After a couple of thin coats I apply Nuln Oil to the joins in the armour to add shading. The line highlights are done by first applying Warboss Green (Goblin Green) and then a 2nd highlight of Moot Green (Scorpion Green). That's basically it, a relatively simple scheme.

@ kitch102, Exhumed, Quarterdime, Bonde, rohansoldier: Thank you all very much.

It's a silly thing, but what really caught me about the Stormtalon was the detailing on the missile warheads. You've pulled off such amazing work on the bird that I forgot how clunky the model itself is.

As many others have said, the army's amazing. The Terminator chaplain's a work of art and I applaud your brave move to give Vulkan a pink cloak!

Thank you everyone for the kind comments.

@ Jinx Magiga - Thank you. To be honest I can't remember the exact process I used now, but essentially this was achieved by using a dark bronze/gold for the base, something like Brass Scorpion, and then building up lighter gold highlights. Then the shading around the corners and the rivets is just done by applying multiple layers of brown ink. Then some final edge highlights with a bright gold and finally silver. Hope this helps.

@ Necroagogo & Kelly502 - Thanks. The warheads are not has tricky as they look. Just start with a yellow circle (a few watered down thin layers until you get a nice smooth cover). Then paint a thin black cross and fill in opposite quarters. Then it's just a case of neatening up the lines with yellow or back until you have nice straight edges.

@ Kelly502 - No I don't have a twitter account, but may well sign up!
