I find it interesting that we'd be willing to destroy the entire planet just because of political beliefs.

"So, do please come along when we're promoting something new and need photos for the facebook page or to send to our regional manager, do please engage in our gaming when we're pushing something specific hard and need to get the little kiddies drifting past to want to come in an see what all the fuss is about. But otherwise, stay the feth out, you smelly, antisocial bastards, because we're scared you are going to say something that goes against our mantra of absolute devotion to the corporate motherland and we actually perceive any of you who've been gaming more than a year to be a hostile entity as you've been exposed to the internet and 'dangerous ideas'. It was hard to see. I've changed my opinion. It's awesome.

And also very likely the UK's next carrier design, because they seem to be determined to do anything to avoid practical options.

on the forum. Obviously

Where are these militia guys getting automatic weapons? Isn't that illegal?

I blame the creation of Militias on the lack of video games. If they played more games, this idiocy would not exist.

Heh, it's a land going aircraft carrier that launches sea-planes. I figure any idea of reality goes out the window at that point. Also I'm pretty sure that the full sized image is some kind of ungodly cat/ski-jump hybrid.

Yep, tracked down the full size image just to be sure. Kind of a weird design. Don't think the guy who drew it knew how an aircraft carrier works...

That is hilarious/awesome in so many ways.

A surprising number of preppers have the money to legally acquire automatic weapons. Those that don't just have semi-autos like the rest of us.

Nope.

It's more expensive and requires even more background checks, etc...

People may purchase automatic weapons, it's just heavily regulated and very expensive.

If we're talking a conventional war with the US vs. everyone else, what's to stop the UN from building forces in Canada and Mexico and attacking that way? Last time I looked, Canada and Mexico were parts of the world too.

I had a roomate many years ago that was in a militia here that tried talking me into joining. Aside from the fact that they weren't able to find their own asses with both hands and a map, he quit because as he told me, the militia was drawing plans on raiding houses and farms for supplies in the event of disater.
A real bunch of losers that liked to dress up in grey BDU's and run around with a random selection of weapons getting lost in the woods and almost freezing to death.
This is what happens when a bunch of overweight, out of shape morons who have read too much Mack Bolan and gotten their tactical doctrine from those type of books decide to play soldier.

You still have to GET them there. That's some serious sea lift if you want to take on the U.S. conventionally. Even the laziest intelligence service wouldn't fail to notice that.

Why on Earth would the UN ever need to fight the US?

The US is doing a perfectly serviceable job of it themselves as we speak.

Like, I get the military gun-spank that it is to dream about US fighter squads engaging in some serious Michael Bay style BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA super slow mo as gunships unload on advancing armour or whatever, but that seems to be more of an act of projection, a desire to go out in a blaze of glory.

When it seems far more likely that enough shenanigans could eventually convince the world markets that the USD shouldn't be the reserve currency, that despite the raw size of the economy that it's too volatile to allow it to dictate everything.

Like, we all get it. There's trillions in equipment that exists and is being built. (The royal) 'your' figurative mighty phallus of force is very impressive. If over-compensatory.

As with all things, it depends on the matter of degree. Having a well stocked first aid kit, a case of food, a few gallons of water, some candles/flashlights and an emergency kit is prudent and every family should do so. Adding a case or two of .223 ammo and maybe a few gas masks is perhaps a little unusual but still who knows, I'd call that reasonable and it's better to have and not need then to need and not have, right?

From there though... it gets weird. It gets really weird really quick. But, you know, that's every hobby really.

I lived on the government dime at times. Seen the make shift trailer housing they have for displace people from Louisiana. Seen refugee camps in other countries. Negative on that. I'm a "Prepper" Unless there's mass bodies rotting around then I'm staying. Six months food and water purification tablets and personnel protection. It also depends on the State. For example, in Washington State individual ownership of automatic weapons is limited to a person with a Class III license who sells or repairs those weapons for the Police, military, or is a licensed exporter. So, simply having a Class III license to sell guns (as a store) won't allow you to own an automatic weapon in Washington State.

It's a dumb contingency to prepare for.

Most variants of it I've seen typically involve some notion of the US government surrendering its own sovereignty. Which is just as stupid, of course, but sidesteps the military issue.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

This is off-topic, of course..

What would happen, theoretically, if you went out in town with a Plate Carrier on? What about a kevlar helmet, or other pieces of militaristic "swag"? Surely, you would be harassed, but there's nothing illegal about it, is there? What about full magazines of ammunition? I'm curious where the line of "causing trouble" is drawn.

I don't see this being too far off. Neighborhood watches will become armed foot patrols, and dutiful citizens will nominate themselves to stand post at important places. There's a lot of people in this country who are counting the days down on their fingers until they can carry all their toys around with them and intimidate others.

So these are people playing soldiers? Dressing up in cameo and running around the forest with automatic weapons. I'm guessing some of these people never made it into the real military.

If we're talking about the Oathkeepers, I think they are, by definition, either active or retired military.
