I'm not a big fan of the cultists, but I'll buy some of those Klingon-looking heads off of anyone who isn't using them.

I'll be your huckleberry.. when I get a box of these I'll shoot you a PM to see if you found some and work out what's what.

I'm all over those cultists for Mordheim but they are extremely iffy about the combinations you build those in without sculpting. I like the covered and half covered faces but the hoods just don't do it for me... which is a shame. I could see myself sculpting the hoods out more to finish out the original art's look but off the sprue they're just really really bizarre looking to me.

For D&D and general purposes the soldiers look pretty sweet for bandits, town guard, etc.

The paint jobs aren't doing them any favors - but the unpainted ones look pretty ace. Generic fantasy bad guys, here I come!

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

After assembling and painting up a warband, I'd give the soldiers kit 3/5. From what I see of the cultists, I am guessing 4/5 and will purchase a box.

Out of curiosity, what's lacking with the soldiers (barring guns of course).

I got a nice Morheim, Empire Militia vibe from them.

The sculpts are just decent. There are no neat ideas, like little touches that make you say, oh that is creative. So that puts them in the average category. But that is also a strength considering that they are meant to be generic. The inarguable flaw, however, is that some of the detail is really soft/blobby; e.g., daggers on their belts.

Maxmini, Mad Robot, Victoria miniatures, Puppetswar, and Kromlech are your best bets. There's a few others but I've done business with most of these companies and have had good experiences. Puppetswar can be a little slow on the shipping, Mad Robots tend to be a little on the bulkier side. Maxmini and Victoria are my favorites for quality and customer service.

Gang War on Shapeways also has some good Necormundy guns.

But all these options tend to be $1 a gun or more. My bitz box ought to cover it but I'm thinking Ork guns might be a good low cost alternative.

Wasnt there a kickstarter with sprues of grimdark guns? Did that ever happen?

I can understand the *why*, but I wish they'd print them all, even if only down the road in 'compendium' format!

It's usually pretty good economic sense to do that reprint after you have enough mini ebooks.

Indeed. These would be great for Cawdor or Redemptionist gangers for Necromunda.

Ah well.

Maybe Proxie or someone can do a sprue of grimdark pistols and rifles. I miss those old 2nd edition weapon sprues.

I believe there are plans to collect all of the ebooks (which will be released as PDFs as well) into a print volume in 2017.

How strange to invest into hard plastic sprues and then not sell them. And I know they really did make them because I have a few.

I have/had soooo many of the 2nd ed sprues. The ones with the big chunky guns and axes and stuff and some of the ones with the super curvy weird bolters. I think those had some plasma pistols. The ones I couldn't keep long enough were the ones with the Space Marine power fist and flamer pistol.

As a side note.. Victoria just released some stuff that's along the lines of what you're talking about.

I know I was just checking out Vic's...

Oh wait, we're drifting aren't we?

So in summary, I want Cultists NOW!

And I want a sci-fi version of Frostgrave.

And a cheeseburger.

Dunno how much like Frostgrave it will be but Osprey is releasing this:
Spoiler:
As for sci fi riffs on Frost Grave, I can imagine a game in which a bunch of robots take the field with their operator.

Dang! Glad I gave up on GW so I have more money to spend on all these great skirmish games that are coming out these days.

Hmm.. my post seems to have gone missing.

Wouldn't a sci-fi version of this just be WarMachine?

The rules are up cheap on Amazon if people are trying to find them. Last I looked they were on Prime as well if you've got that service.
Looking there, the other games on offer from Osprey are also equally cheap so I'm thinking of giving them a try.

Also, there are some pretty good play through videos on youtube for anyone like me that's only barely heard of Frostgrave. It looks like a system that's very friendly to pickup games.
