I've been seeing a lot of talk about giving your chapter master terminator armor or a bike so that he can move and use the orbital bombardment. But what about sticking him in a unit of centurion? They have slow and purposeful which, unlike relentless, is "if one has it, they all do" which allows for the same effect as terminator armor without the cost.

Could work, but why bother with it?

Honestly, people try too hard for that one-shot OB...

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Could be interesting with a IF chap tactics, and shield eternal to tank wounds that would ID.

But as boomwolf states that one shot is really just gravy and shouldn't really be counted on.

I'd be more interested in throwing a CM into a grav cent squad to tank ap1/2 shooting and to help out with the inevitable assault. I'd probably opt for the bike and artificer armor over termie armor, though, so he can detach and go after targets of opportunity later in the game. the OB would just be a bonus at that point.

Also, while attached the CM can take advantage of Split fire, and any buffs that a buffcommander/tigurius/other libby may confer the unit for his OB. If you want to be extra beardy of course.

What i saw was a friend at our Club, with his CM in termi armour, amongst an Assault Centurion squad.

He used the Servo-thingy-Mcsquishy thing( can't freakin remember the name) that gave the unit Divided Fire(?).

used the thing to allow the CM to fire his OB on one squad, and the rest of the Assault Centy's on another one with their meltas.

Servo-thingy-Mcsquishy thing is the technical name.

It doesn't work like that, the sergeant can fire at a seperate target, the CM still has to drop his plate on the same target as the rest of the unit.

Before you correct someone, you might want to check out the relevant rules so you don't look foolish.

Omniscope is on page 125 of the Space Marines codex, and the Split Fire USR is on page 42 of the rules book.

Also, putting a conversion beamer MotF allows him to fire it on the move as well. That's a bit more useful than a one-shot Large blast.

True, but at least with the Las-centurions you could at least match range.

I run chapter master on bike with Shield Eternal to tank wounds for my Cents and I have Tiggy in the unit too. Tiggy gives rerolls to hit and ignore cover, CM can then split fire his OB on something hiding out of LOS or bunched up, reroll to hit and give no saves. Surprises people the first time you do it for sure. Lol.

as has been discussed to death in another active thread. This is VERY effective against a common subset of expensive units taken with a good save, but is a horrendouslly short ranged, slow unit that costs a ton. It will either win or lose you the game the moment you put it on the table.
