Remember that flyrants also lost the ability to precision shot. That's a huge nut kick to the Flyrant. He's no longer able to snipe heavy weapons and sergeants our of squads in support of his army.

Is he good? Pretty good. Is he better than 6th? Nope. Is he worth his points now? Maybe?

(p.s. you might have lost to Matt if it went to turn 5 too )

Trust me facing three of those guys is not a fun day. Had AM not been so ridiculously good in 6th edition I would of probably lost the game to Matt.

It's all good and I do agree that given dual CAD that is probably what would happen. That's why I prefer the self ally detachment house rule as a compromise. At least its no more of a 'not fun day' then skyblight can be for people.

You can still move to a side with the heavy weapons on and they have to allocate to the closest models. As for the turn 5... not likely he only had one flyrant left and was out of synapse range. The game was over at that point. Probably would of helped had the game not been only 2 hours long as well.

Flyrants are worth there cost. It is still a lot of dakka that is twin linked. It even has a good chance of killing some invisible units.

Considering also due to the simplification of Self-Allied being allowed, making the rule for Detachments be that they are limited to a single codex / codex supplement. Based upon some internal GW feedback and continued difficulty understanding army construction guidelines following the BRB RAW for things like CSM legions and Tau/Farsight.

I think there's a compelling argument to be found herein:

GW made the BB rules "fluffier" (And thus more Imperial Friendly) because they simultaneously made multiple CAD's possible and made factions self-BB'ed. So, "yeah imperial have more access to BB allied facs, but everyone can take a whole second CAD so it's not a big deal as far as access to ICs, hide-able ML, ride sharing, etc."

I think the decision to limit to 1 CAD is the right one for now, but it simultaneously screws with the above thought process.

For that reason, there's a more compelling argument to be had for what's been mentioned already by some - simultaneously with a 1 CAD restriction, removing the Allied Detachment same-fac restriction.

Still in some discussion, but we will likely go with this amendment, thus allowing Allied Detachments to come from the same faction as the Primary Detachment.

LOVE THIS.

Thank you.

I feel it really options up a lot of list building options for Xenos.

Looks good. Definitely more clear and easier to work with than the convoluted RAW. Allowing Self Allying should at least appease those who were pushing for Dual CADs while limit some of the potential for abuse.

I also like the cooperation between you and Reece in trying to created a unified and organized front for competitive play. The BAO and NOVA are definite trendsetters for competitive 40k.

Ed - we'll keep considering the Lords, in all three possibilities (Escalation + Codex LoW // Limited Escalation + Codex LoW // No LoW).

A couple of updates for all fronts ...

Are you registered for the 40K GT? If so, are you registered for the Thursday Trios or the Narrative Nightfighters? Did you think you couldn't do both? You could do all 3 if you're crazy. Check them out - they're really awesome events.
The Narrative Warlords track has only about 12 spots left, and only a handful representing Humanity. This track gives you 7 games with an incredibly relaxed schedule during the Con (Freeing you up to do all sorts of other things), at a full GT level type experience, with thematic terrain custom made just for our own Narrative "Universe." You also get to participate in strategic councils that help determine where the "Nightfighters" will compete terrain-wise against each other. This is one of the coolest events at the entire NOVA Open.

Are you registered for any Malifaux events? If not, why? Your rules references will include the two authors of the game itself. Also, they'll be giving free lounge talks during the weekend.

Are you registered for any Infinity events? Why not? Gutier Losquiños Rodríguez, a 10 year partner for Corvus Belli who is a story developer for Infinity will be on site doing exclusive reveals (that you won't even hear at GenCon), giving free lounge talks, and hosting a seminar, so make sure you get out here and see him!

Are you registered for any Fantasy events? Why not?! Fantasy this year has been given a total revamp, top to bottom, and is promised to be incredible. Also, it's nearly sold out despite already bumping from 32 to 64 slots!

Are you registered for any WM/H events? Why not!? The all-passes are SOLD OUT and we're considering bumping to 64 slots! We're a Warmachine Weekend Qualifier. ALL PRESS GANGERS TELL ME WARMACHINE PLAYERS WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO REGISTER. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE YOU TO NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY.

Are you registered for any Blood Bowl events? Why not?! We added night time Blood Bowl as well, so if you're in something like the 40K GT ... you can now also do BB!

Are you registered for any Flames of War events? They're as low cost as it gets with some of the sweetest terrain at the NOVA!

Are you registered for any seminars? Why not?! There are an incredible # of them, taught in every subject from how to get the most out of your GT experience to how to wet blend at a master level. They also are explicitly scheduled to give everyone doing anything at NOVA the chance to participate in them during off hours.

Do you have any radical miniature art you've done that you want to show off and even win sweet prizes with (like full Grex airbrush sets and epic Secret Weapon Miniatures swag)? Sign up for the Capital Palette Miniature Art Exhibition and Juried Competition. The judges include industry experts like Justin McCoy and Dave Taylor.

How about X-Wing? A Few Maneuvers is putting on an epic 4-day weekend chalk full of day and night X-Wing events; trickier than the Kessel Run.

The list, she keeps going!

Finally - do you like the Mega Mats sold by Tablewar/Frontline Gaming? Have you kinda always wanted one for your home table? Are you put off by the $17 shipping that there's no way around? Would you like to skip that by pre-purchasing one and picking it up at the NOVA Open from the FLG guys in person?

Well, now you can. Look for more info in a few days.

We just eclipsed last year's room block.

There are less than 50 rooms left in the block.

Go, reserve them now, especially if you already registered. It's free to hold a hotel room.

You see how fixes are required either way?

So cool news - watch for the newsletter today folks.

Frontline Gaming's Mega Mats will be available for pick-up at the NOVA Open. You'll have to purchase them via the NOVA Open registration store. Any mat purchased will be pick-uppable-at-NOVA, without having to pay the $17 shipping fee. Reece and the FLG crew are attending NOVA this year, and we've worked together with them to bring you this ... and give those who can make it to NOVA even for a day the opportunity to save nearly twenty bucks off the de facto cost of the mats.

Please note - they will NOT BE FOR SALE AT THE EVENT. They are only available if you pre-purchase. The cart's up and running, with more info to come in the newsletter. If you can't make it to the BAO // FLG on the West Coast to pick these suckers up, this is your chance to do so at a substantial savings.

Additionally, some updates on the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Successful GT Experience. This is a course I'm "leading" on Thursday evening before the NOVA Open 40K GT and other big events start (Friday and Saturday starts), and we've brought in a few GT scene veterans to focus on some highlight areas for about 15-20 minutes each. These guest speakers now include Reece from FLG, Thomas "Goatboy" Reidy from BOLS, and Andrew Gonyo (who will recently have returned from Serbia and will be newly the captain of Team America). The purpose of the class is minimally about how to "beat face," and much more about the different things you can and should do, keep in mind, and practice when participating in a GT in order to make the most of your experience and have the best time possible. It should be a blast of a class!

FAQ looks pretty good and thorough so far. I don't really disagree with much of anything. It is good to see CCBs clarified.

Few errors or things that may been clarification.

Psychic Units- A unit with multiple psykers with duplicate powers can only attempt to manifest them once.

Eldar- May want to emphasize that WC are lost at the end of the Psychic Phase, therefore a Ghost Helm cannot be used against an ability that causes a perils in any other phase, ie Mindstrike Missiles.

GK- Referencing powers that no longer exist.

I"m curious as to why you've ruled that the serpent shield can't be destroyed with a Weapons Destroyed result. It is Equipment that has a weapons profile.

Otherwise, I think it is well done. Thank you for having this available now.

That's funny, those were the two things that jumped out at me too. The latter is prob a typo/carryover from an older faq, but I really thought the psychic unit thing would go the other way, the way you Zagman listed it in here. To me the NOVA position seems like a big departure from what I thought the rules were in 7th.

Anyway, think the FAQ is great overall. Glad psychic shriek needs to roll to hit; always thought it should!

Yeah, at first glance I thought it was just worded funny, but it appears multiple Psykers can manifest the same power as other Psykers in the unit. It's different than I think most are playing it, but I can definitely see that interpretation. It caught me offguard because it was so different. Definitely gives a boost to SeerStars. Interesting.

NOVA's ruling is actually the correct one. The use of the word unit is confusing for sure but in the sentence that seems to prohibit multiple psykers in squad from using the same power is really meant to say a psyker simply cannot cast the same power twice.

Actually Nova's ruling is the wrong one. So is the other ruling. There is no RAW on it. It's literally just a rule decision that needs to be made by TO's

@Hulksmash

Well if NOVA rules it the other way then the entire psychic phase breaks down when you have a psyker in a squad. POTW, Psyker rule conference, etc...If you rule like NOVA then nothing bad happens and life goes on fine. Occam's Razor on this is pretty strong. So IMO NOVA is pretty darn correct. I see you point there really isn't a RAW, but RAW is a bad metric when dealing with GW rules.
