No, though it was considered. Lack of ObSec, presence of a points cap, yields from playtest and listbuild, fact that Orks have a similar option, yada. Apologies for brevity, typing mobile.

While I agree Orks taking a CAD and another Ork CAD-like detachment isn't particularly onerous, Imperial armies have a much higher ability to abuse 2xFOC due to battle brother shenanigans. SW Droppods is a prime example.
Also while ObSec is a crucial tool, I think people make too much of it sometime. The game is so deadly right now with enormous amounts of fire power coming from Wave Serpents, Tau, Centurions and Grav, Guard Blobs and Wyverns, etc.. that most obsec scoring units crumple under the weight of the firepower presented. Having everything score I think is a much bigger paradigm shift than ObSec. This means you don't have to skimp on kill and still have the ability to blow the enemy off the table.

The journey begins! NOVA Army finally finished (plog at http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/426461.page) and all packed up ready for the trip. I'll be on vacation in San Francisco / Bay Area for the rest of the week before heading slowly over to NOVA. If anyone is local to SFO and wants a practice game, let me know! Otherwise, see you all in a few weeks...

Alert here guys - Fantasy, WM/H, and X-Wing Saturday singles event are all 3 nearly sold out at NOVA. Please do not wait to show up day of and register, as that is highly risky for those events.
Because of our shunt of 32 player spots during the 40K GT into the Warlords GT level event, there SHOULD be GT spots no matter what (Especially with always drops). We've sold 220 40k tickets total, and had a fair # of pre-drops due to life situations as normal, and have sold nearly 30 warlords tickets for the Narrative. So barring 50 or 60 registrations in the next 9 days, we should be OK there with a similar or slightly larger turnout to year 1 of 6th edition, but a bigger net turn-out for 40K day-long events than last year thanks to Narrative Warlords.
In the evening, please sign up for Narrative Nightfighter sooner than later if you want choice of faction, as we have I think a total of nearly 50 or 60 people playing Narrative at night now (warlords + nightfighter only).
Malifaux and Infinity are growing, but have plenty of spots, so they should be A-OK. These events are especially cool, as the game designers will be present.
Some of the seminars are closing on sell-out as well, especially Caleb Wissenback's "From Primer to Tabletop" painting seminar.
Gettin' close!

What's the deal with the FAQ stating Psykers may not generate more powers than their mastery level unless explicitly saying they can?
That's kind of weird. My friends and i use NOVA and BAO rulings in light of GW so we're wondering about that one.
Does that mean a Level 1 who get's a free Chaos spell, then Get's Focus, doesn't get to roll or a level 1 only gets Chaos Focus.
Thanks! Great FAQ.

It means you get an additional spell from psychic focus because the rules explicitly say you do, but there was some question about two things - one, psykers somehow getting to generate more than their mastery level (I'm not sure where the Q came from off the top of my head), and also the question about being able to manifest all their spells regardless of mastery level (which we also FAQ'ed on).
Appreciate the compliment

Good luck on your road trip, ArbitorIan! Maryland weather has been insanely good for the past few weeks, let's hope that holds up. I actually saw a "fall" caterpillar yesterday... it's been so mild that he was confused and came out early
Wish I could be at Nova to see your army in-person, the pics look great!

No problem its always great, it's great well done neutral party everyone can agree on. You guys and BAO etc.. usually rule the same way so we use that as our way of solving arguments about rules.

Are escape hatch upgrades on fortifications considered part of the fortification? I.e. can the hatch itself be set up outside the players deployment zone?
I guess I'm asking which takes precedence, BrB stating forts must be in your zone or the stronghold book stating the hatch can be placed anywhere in 12in?

Online pre-registration ends tomorrow
There are only about 25 unsold GT tickets (though there are always drops and no-shows, coupled w/ the Narrative Warlords, this year we have the highest # of pre-registrations for 40K day-long events).
There are only a couple of unsold Warlords Narrative tickets.
Warmachine has maybe one all event pass? Otherwise sold out.
X-Wing singles championship sold out, not much left in the rest.
Fantasy has only one ticket of 64 left.
Infinity and Malifaux have room left, but not infinite (heh).
Blood Bowl has some room left.
Flames of War has some room left.
Many of the Seminars are nearly sold out.
There are no more swag bags left.
What's the point here? Signing up day of is risky business.
Can't wait for the fifth annual NOVA Open!

Has anyone used the shuttle from Reagan to the Hyatt? Is it easy enough to find and use? Just checked the website and it seems pretty ok, trying to avoid cab fare.

Ridiculously so. I've been doing it for 3 years now, am doing it this year as well, and never had an issue. Runs about every 15-20 minutes, maybe less. I wouldn't never rent a car if I didn't leave after the con to drive down to see my family. I heartily advise not renting a car if you don't intend to do anything other than the con. And a cab fare would be a waste. They have a hotel shuttle place to stand. Just look for the Hyatt bus.

It is very easy. I haven't used it myself, but no one's ever had a problem, and many have complimented it. This could be because it is free and runs every 15 minutes. It also takes very few minutes to get there ... it's impossible to overstate how close the airport is to the hotel.
TO ADD TO HULK'S COMMENT: If you intend to visit anything in Washington, DC, you also do not need to rent anything. The Hyatt also runs a shuttle every 15 to the Metro, which is mere minutes from anything in DC basically. Crystal City is for all intents and purposes in Washington, DC.

Even when the shuttle isn't running (or is running late), the Metro is like...a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel, tops. I drove down last year and had zero need for my car until the day we headed home.

Ouch, I've only got three bases to finish painting and mine is done... plus fixing a few things I clumsily broke at a local tournament Sunday. I'm more worried about trying to reschedule all of my client around this four day hiatus and making sure my business runs smoothly without me.

Heh, due to our rapidly increasing sales for this year, our crazy hotel room bookings, and other factors, the Hyatt just gave us the entire hotel to spread out to. I don't know how this will impact our planning and layout, but it's pretty darned awesome regardless!

Alright guys...a bit of a problem....
My thunderbolt hasn't shown up yet. This leaves me with a decision to make.
The ONLY other models that I have are either Space Wolves (a bit of this and that) or Super Heavies. The Space Wolves are not painted. The Super Heavies are.
So I could scramble and try to paint up the Space Wolves or I could throw another super heavy into my armored list. Either a Knight or a Macharius Vulcan.
This is for the Narrative. Thoughts???

For the Narrative, I'd strongly recommend you go with what's painted.
You're going to be amongst armies like this:

And yeah, that's a Thunderhawk intentionally crashed into a display board.
