I wanted to make an autarch similar to the previous codex cover. The main aim was to make a much taller, slender figure in a static over viewing pose. I started with a dire avenger as the base.

The legs were split into 4 parts and the gaps were filled with green stuff, i also made the shins pointed to make a nice point to highlight. The torso was given extra abdominals like the artwork, and bulk was added to the sides with extra armour plates.

Made a few green stuff gems, and blended the cloak into the torso.

The top knot was pinned on the top and extra hair added. The pipe added to the back was so so fiddley!!!

I made fins from dire avenger and wraith guard parts. I then started casting all my parts.

Casting really helps to see any Discrepancies, and I final bit of green stuff for the painting version. I did make copies of the arms and head, but wanted to use the originals for the one I'm painting.

The base was made from miliput and sculptboard, cast then added to a plinth with more miliput.

Paint begins!!! Going for a deep rich red

Using a teal/turquoise to contrast with the red, I use this colour somewhere on every model.

This is the first attempt I had at the blade, I started it again later on.

Again I used the teal colour for the cloak. Had a go at the Saim Hann free hand, I think this is beyond my current skill level but it was good to have a try! It's something I want to learn so I had to have a first attempt eventually! I learnt a lot and hopefully will improve next time.

Here are the original base, the first one I tried but quickly ditched and the one I ended up using. Tried a dark marble style.

And here he is soooo close to being finished!!! Although lots of tweaks to do, nice to see him finally built. Just a few more highlights, neatening up my mistakes and adding more to the base.

And here is a size comparison of the dire avenger I used as the base for my conversion.
Probably a good 50% taller but I think the proportions are still ok?

Look forward to any thoughts,

Andy

Can't believe nobody's commented on this yet!

This is great, really nice conversion and paint job. Like you say, he's massive in comparison to a regular Eldar, but he looks like a display model anyway, so he probably won't be side by side with other Eldar models.

Actually now his proportions are correct for a normal human(oid)- it's the GW "heroic scale" which is wrong and looks goofy in comparison. I tried sculpting my own Solitaire once and the proportion was the hardest bit to get right to fit in with the rest of my army.

It really does look great, including the base. Where did you get the leaves from?

master of as guard,
Thanks a lot! What i found funny was how the head still looks huge on him, even with the extra size. Almost funny looking at normal models after staring at this one for so long.

The leaves are from secret weapon miniatures. As I'm in UK i found the easiest place to get them was ebay. You get a huge bag with various colours, i just sifted through to find the smallest ones in the more autumnal reds and yellows, although there are green ones in the bag. I even cut a few to a slimmer shape.

Wow, this is a brilliant, very well executed conversion, with a great paint job to boot! Very good work indeed!

My only small criticism would be that perhaps you could have added a gun holster (say for a fusion gun) onto the left hip, maybe complete with some fabric round the waist? Just thought the extra detail and WYSIWYG for in-game would be nice too!

But, like I say, great job, looks very professional too!

Wow! Gorgeous work all around. I've always loved that cover and you've realized him perfectly.

The fact you scrapped a power blade nicer than any I've ever done makes me a bit depressed though.

This ^^

But I love what you've done, and the freehand on the cloak is great! Especially for a first attempt at that sort of thing. Top conversion, top paintjob.

I know what you mean! I did think he would look cool with belt/strap across his chest, but decided to keep it simple and clean. I will be doing a second version which will be WYSIWYG
and a gaming model. I have an alternative head and arms for that version! Thanks for the kind words

Wow, that's really impressive, have you started a log for the blood angels?
