So, anyone got any idea where a brother could lay hands on a decent female samurai fig? The Reaper figure finder failed me pretty dramatically, so I'm on the hunt for a mini to represent my character in our new L5R game.

Anima Tactics.... there is a shedload of em, but it's very anime in style and proportions.
Ninjas and geishas are easy... or even Ronin - the old wyrd miniatures ronin was/is a blister pack of three modern ronin girls.
Then there are a few asian style figures from the defunct warcrow (can still be had from ebay and shops at discounts) - The fantasy setting that corvus belli did.

This is the one I'll be going with, I think.

I'm just curious why you went with her (the Chinese wuxia girl) instead of the actual samurai, Tetsu-Ko.

Not that I think it's a bad choice. I'd buy both those minis in a minute if they appeared on Miniature Market or the War Store.

There was an L5R minis game a while back, Clan Wars, which had a number. Might be worth an e-bay search, or dusty shelves at your FLGS.

What clan you need? And any specific gear/armor?

Does anyone else think Shang looks like he is farting flames? Also, some cool minis in this thread.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Very nice looking.

I think this one works better than the armored mini, especially if it's a 'realistic' game where the players aren't always wearing full armor... The pose is more dynamic.

Isn't L5R kind of a mash-up of tidbits of Asian history anyway? (Much the same way most fantasy RPGs are a mash-up of various western historical and mythical tropes.)

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Very much so. Strong japanese core, but all sorts of other bits tossed in there. Depending on how you want to run it it's very high fantasy, but can be gritty low/med as well. I don't know how bad the current rules are, but I played a bit of the 1st ed. It was hyper lethal out of the box, but that was fixed with a few tweaks.

We're playing second ed in all of its hyper-lethality.

I'm going Light Armor, since I had to skimp on combat skills in order to buff my Reflexes to make me harder to hit. I'd rather spend most of the combats whiffing but being untouchable than being a wanton killing machine who gets cut down after a few rounds.

No need to eBay, most of the line is back in production by Valiant.
