It is really rubbish, I have just not seen anything better.
The only thing I found that works with it is to use thin plasticard and just try and score gently and repeatedly,
for thicker bits you need to score on both sides making a small hole at the centre so its aligned, then do as above.

Same here, but I ended up reinforcing the compass cutter so it didn't 'wobble', and pushing the needle deeper into the plastic so it was not so much longer than the blade. Finding replacement blades won't be fun.

hey red harvest...I would like to see how you reinforced yours...such hints are always very valuable!
and noodels... I have done so too... I quite often made a spiral instead of a circle... that´s why it currently collects dust^^...
there are different circuit cutters out there... just waaaay more expensive... foamcutters could be a more reliable way to score the first lines...but as stated way more expensive... and red harvest... cuiriosly I have stumbled over new baldes quite often ... but never needed yet to replace the current blade
cool...does this mean this is the finished entry LT?...

Not yet, painting for one could use some more work - The building itself hasn't been highlighted, much less touched up, for one - and I'd like to add some more colour to the base if possible, either green grass or moss, or some scattered bits, to break up the tans.
And there's always the furniture question...
Remember BTW that finished pics should not be posted here before the Comp's closure, as by Camkierhi's request:
Camkierhi wrote:Please feel free to post WIP shots and to bandy ideas around on this thread, we would however ask you to refrain from posting final shot here, (think Skalk had that one right).
(And I still have to learn to take better pics for my final submission before the end of February!)

I'd be afraid that plasticard would dull it though..

well...I would rather use card only for this... but also... these punches are from a company that makes them modular... so the actual blades are replaceable...

Mills sniffed loudly and wrapped his blanket tighter around himself. This planet was miserable. Always raining. Permanent cloudy skies and a terrible wetness that permeated everything. Mills sighed and looked up and down the line. Everyone looked just as miserable as him. Huddled in groups shivering or moving about, trying to get the blood pumping.
He missed his home. A sunny Agri-world where the work was hard but the feeling of accomplishment was high. Here, on this drowning ball of mud... harder work for no accomplishment.
The fighting had ground to a stand still in the last day as the rain picked up. Aside from the occasional mortar, the rebels seemed to be as beaten by the weather as he was and everything slowed down. The worst was when the sun set and the chill set in. At least one person in his platoon froze to death in the night. He grew weary of sitting or kneeling and chose to lay down, never to rise again.
Mills leaned forward and peered up, looking around his makeshift tarp that had been cut from the charred remnants of a tent. The clouds seemed dark and angry. He sighed and sat back again. His mind dwelled on his home. Large fields of grain, gently swaying in the breeze, the sun on his face. He sighed and opened his eyes again and was greeted by the same dreary everything. Then, as he watched, the clouds parted briefly and the sun peered down through the clouds before being engulfed again. Mills smirked.
"There are worse places..." he muttered as he lowered his helmet and shut his eyes. At least here, in his little home away from home, he could get some well needed rest.

I should hope so. Nothing in the rules said the accommodations had to be comfortable.

The hex is 25mm across. There are two larger sizes too. The usual cereal box thickness -~0.3mm is a bit much for it, but thinner stock is easily cut. Haven't tried it on any sort of plasticard, but I doubt it would produce good results. The squeeze handles are plastic and I'm afraid they might snap if you tried to squeeze them too hard to cut through the plasticard.

Nicely done prime, did you paint the cloth for the shelter?
@ Littletower: that looks great, excellent work! It's nice to see some finished entries.
That hex tool looks interesting, I may have to find one for "research", plasticard is much softer than card it'd also not blunt the blade as quickly I would think.

Yes. I earlier posted work in progress pictures. They're also in my P&M blog in my signature.
Its a tan piece of fabric that came in a cheap model set I got from Hobby Lobby. I cut it to shape and painted it. The one wrapped around the solider was just dunked in what remained of my nuln oil. and the wrung out. It didn't dye it too well though.
