So haven't been able to do much hobby stuff this week, or even be on Dakka for that matter. Work has been ludicrous and with the weather warming up, there's all sorts of things to do around the house. But tonight I took for myself and spent some time working on models. Nothing complete, but I thought I would throw up some WIP shots of the things cluttering my desk this evening.

Got some WIP Deadzone Rebs and another Scavvy who is done except for his base. He's not my favorite, but he will do the trick.

Next are some Reiksguard Knights I've been working on for my slowly expanding Empire army. The horses are done except for the bases. The Knights are obviously not, and are not glued on yet. Just sitting there for show. This is my first attempt at painting horses. I'm pretty pleased with them.

Been trying to push through some night goblins. I have 100 of them. I've got about 15 painted. Been working on these tonight. Sill WIP. Also, I HATE HATE HATE painting the yellow moon on the shield. It will take 5 or so more layers to make it look decent.

Lastly, some Eldar I've started to work on. My gaming group and I are doing a painting escalation league starting in May. Trying to get my 500 point force completed.

So thats what's been going on tonight. Will have some more progress up of the Deadzone stuff and Scavvys this weekend. Unless you guys want to see it, I probably won't update the other stuff. Just felt like sharing my cluttered desk tonight.

Everything looks good, nice eclectic mix of goodies

For the night gobbo shields, I assume you assemble everything before you undercoat, yeah? The answer would be really simple if you didn't, just undercoat the shields white. You may look into masking to do it too. My only other luck painting yellow over a black undercoat is to work up brown into tan into off white, then yellow, rather than layers of yellow, though I VASTLY prefer a white undercoat.

The horses look good too, the scheme is really similar to my old knights.

So on the Goblins, I normally prime EVERYTHING I paint gray. I got these from a buddy who plays dwarfs, so we just traded our starter box sets. He had already built them and primed them black, so I have quite a few like this.

I normally paint things in stages. The knights are not actually on the horses yet, and they don't have shields for that reason also. Painting is already challenging enough for me, no reason to make it even harder if you don't have to.

So changing direction on this for awhile. My gaming group is starting an escalation league in May, and we have picked armies and are getting started. I picked Imperial Guard because I already had a few models lying around, and I love the new Militarum Tempestus stuff. I know its not that popular, but I like it so to heck with it. I decided to post my work here as opposed to startig a new blog. Hope you guys don't mind.

The league starts the third Saturday in May, and we will be starting with 500 point armies. We are using the Kill team rules when it comes to force org. In other words, no heavy armor, no flyers, no 2+ saves etc. This is to prevent trying to kill a riptide with a 500 point force. Just makes things more fun. I have a few guys already painted up, as I have a small contingent of guard to ally with my main army, which is Blood Angels. i painted them up as a planetary defense force for Baal, and so was born the Baal 111th. I will stick with this paint scheme and fluff as I continue building the army. Now for a few pics before the work starts.

Here is what I have that is unbuilt so far. Some of it I just got in today!

Here are some of the models I have built and or painted. This is not a lot, but is pretty much what I'm starting with. I have a few more models soaking to take the paint off, but this is most f what I have.

Here is a closer view of the paint scheme. They look pretty awesome beside my BA. I've never seen this color scheme on guard before, though I'm sure someone has done it.

Now I'm going to go work on building some of those Scions. Will post pics later this evening.

I'd have to see one of those new tank/truck/track things in person before I could say if I like it. I certainly do not *hate* it. The scions are the new 5-man box you got two of? Those look pretty darn cool.

I do like your color scheme. I think guardsmen color coordinated to marines look spiffy.

So I built my first box of Scions and they look pretty awesome. That being said, they are one of the least modular kits GW has ever released. There are specific arms and packs assigned to eah gun, and you pretty much have to use the correct ones or they won't go together correctly. Also, the legs are assigned to each other (some of them are two pieces). I swapped two of them from their assigned partners, but overall, this is a pretty static kit compared to what GW usually puts out. Oh well, they look awesome, and the kit has a TON of extra bits that I look forward to using.

I have two more boxes to build. Just wanted to show off the new kit for those who haven't seen it. Thanks for looking and feel free to comment.

Huh, that's an interesting direction for their kits. They look cool in any case though.

The scions look cool Apart from the lack of modularity, how were they to assemble?

They are quite difficult to be honest. I mean, not ludicrous, and I've been modelling for a few years, so I could do it, but I had to put in more effort than normal. The reason is the arms, weapons, and backpacks all have to match with each other. So only certain arms will work with certain guns, which only go with certain backpacks. So you have to try to get the angles of these specific pieces exactly right before you glue them on. Its doable, but its kind of a pain. That being said, its worth it, as I love the look of the finished models. The plasma guy is my favorite so far.

So I spent most of this evening building the rest of the Scion squad and then painting said squad. I have made a 10 man squad armed with 2 plasma guns and a vox caster. Besides that everyone is stock. These models were a little tough to paint, as there are multiple layers with all the clothing, armor, and straps. I found it was easier to start with the clothes and then paint up. But I'm no expert painter by any means so YMMV.

Here is a WIP shot.

I finished off two of the three, and am very pleased with how they came out. Here are a few shots.

I wanted to use the red to tie them in with the rest of the army, but I wanted the rest to be toned down, as these are supposed to be commandos. I think the contrast works well. I also use scorpion green on my BA eyes, so I used that on these guys to tie the forces together even more if I ever play them together. Hope you enjoyed and feel free to comment.

Definitely lookin good. Are these the new storm troopers or are they just more impressive guardsmen?

These are called Tempestus Militarum Scions (say that three times fast). They pretty much replaced storm troopers in the new book. I simply love the models and will be attempting to finish them off this week so I can work on their transport; the much hated by almost everyone Taurox.

I bet its cool from the right angle. How do you use storm troopers with a transport? Same as vets? I always did the deep strike thing.

I don't know, as this will be my first time playing guard. I just liked the models so figured I would paint them first. I will figure out what they're good at once I start playing I suppose. My first thought is to run them up a flank in their vehicle and see what they can do that way. We will find out in about a month.

If they're still good at pinpoint deepstriking, you could probably still buy their transport to use as a mobile firebase/los blocker and deepstrike them anyway. If that works out the best, depending on the toughness and firepoints of the tank, leaving them in may totally be fine too

I am actually letting the glue dry on parts of my Taurox as I type this. I will be working on my new IG army for my escalation league with my gaming group a lot, but I will definitely keep working on my skirmish stuff (deadzone and necromunda) as well. Hope to get enough progress done tonight that I can get a few pics up of the finished Taurox.

Also, thanks for the kind words on the painting!

So I haven't been posting much lately but rest assured, I have been working on hobby stuff. Mostly just painting Guardsmen, so I didn't see a point in posting that. I also have been working on my command squad, as well as figuring out what to do about a primaris psyker. I wanted one in my army but didn't feel like shelling out for an official model, so into the bits box I went. Tell me what you think.

Here he is flanked by my commander and a few guardsmen I had finished up / am working on today.

Would anyone have a problem playing against him? I think it will be pretty obvious what he is once I get him painted up. He has parts from 3 kits, but I think he would be recognizable if I had him in a blob.

Also got together and got in a game of 40k yesterday. My buddy (CanadianBeaver on dakka) built this awesome board. I played BA allied with guard against his Imperial fists. It was a great game.

The top two sections aren't done yet. He made this from scratch and next on the docket is a city board. Can't wait to see that one.

Thanks for stopping by guys. As always, feel free to comment!

Hmm. He's extremely ripped, but for all we know being a 40k psyker requires you to be in top shape or get torn asunder. I like the blindfold, and the beard. I could almost see the head and staff going well with the rest of the commander next to him. But if you want more of a wild-man look.. perhaps some restraints like they don't trust him?

Definitely an interesting approach, and I think you are right that you could tell such a model from the rest of the grunts in a blob.

I looked around for some bits to make a frail robed model, but I just didn't have anything. I did have a ton of marauder and catachan bits though, so we got steroid psyker. I will come up with some back story for why he's so jacked, but I need to get some paint on hims first!

Do the new IG have access to Biomancy? That would certainly be an explanation for why he's so buff.

So I finished off four more models tonight for my IG escalation army. The event starts the 3rd saturday in May at 500 points, so I have quite a bit of work to get done. The problem is I paint too slow to be painting all these infantry, so we might have to fill out some points with tanks here soon. Anyways, I finished off two more regular guardsmen, another Scion, and a Primaris Psyker that I showed off earlier. Without further ado.

And one with flash, just because.

So I will hopefully have quite a bit of progress over the next few days. Need to get this army up ad running. Thanks for looking, and as always, feel free to comment.

Excellent, progress is always nice The Scions seem like they're going to make the regular cadians and catachans out there look drab and boring by comparison.

I simply love the Scion models, though they are more time consuming to paint. They are well worth it in the end. The next question is how do they play on the tabletop? I shall see in a few weeks.

Are they pretty much the new storm troopers or are they something else entirely? Uhh, I probably asked that already

Got some more work done this morning. Mostly just painting more infantry, but I did get these two boxes built. The Taurox I had already half built, the bullgryns I did from start to finish. There are some extra bits on the bullgryn sprue that I'm debating on adding, but it will just make them take longer to paint... I will have to think on it. I think they look pretty awesome the way they are. Anyways, here are the pics.

Thats it for now. I don't know if I will get anything else noteworthy done today, but if I do I will post it. Thanks for looking and feel free to comment!

Hmm, didn't know they revamped Ogryns, cool. And the Taurox thing doesn't look bad, unconventional maybe, but this is the archaic crazy Imperium of Man.... of course the designs for stuff won't make so much modern sense

Good stuff keep it coming

Yeah, I like the new Ogryn kit, though I don't think they're going to very good in game. But I like paying with cool models so to heck with it. Speaking of Ogryns, I got a little bit of work done on them today. Figured I'd throw up a WIP shot or two. I should have them done later this week.

Still not 100% sure what I want to do with the weapons / shields. Any ideas are welcome, as long as it fits with the overall look of the army. Thanks for looking!
